How do you rate his career so far? Still think the Spence fight was a huge mistake and there were missed opportunities with the Lomachenko fight. I just don't think 147 is the place for him.
Solid Career, Exciting fighter for 99% of his fights and today is now a very shrewd boxing businessman first. He has made money in one fight that some boxers will never pull out of the sport and for someone like mikey that is a great accomplishment in itself because he's not a flashy guy, not very charismatic but his inside action has built his a cult following of sorts with alot of diehard boxing fans that he has been able to capitilze into $$$ for himself.
If I had to give his career a letter rating A+ through F- I would say his career is an "A" which is not bad given the only A+ I rate are Canelo, Mayweather, Andre Ward, so he done just fine for himself imo.
All Mikey had to do was do better than expected. Or have the fight be more action than it was, or even end in a brutal KO that elevated Spence and gave him a highlight reel moment at least. It wasent the outcome that mattered, the fight could have been called “A Bridge too Far”. It was just the lack of in ring excitement. It was a boring 12 round fight. No Mikey with the Rocky moment, no Spence with the brutal beat down to shove in everyone’s faces. If you bet Spence by decision then you were the winner, but couldn’t have been fun to root for...
If you didn't think it was going to be lopsided or end with a ko thenyou deserve to feel more than a little stupid
I didn’t think Mikey was going to win. But I hoped for a more exciting fight. Spence with the shut out and not much to fear didnt/couldn’t/wouldn’t take Mikey out either though. So in the end I don’t give much credit to Spence either. So if you expected him to KO Mikey then you were well off also. I would have wished Mikey got Ko’d. But you are totally right, and I said as much, I deserved to feel stupid for hoping for more. But to be fair getting things wrong is part of the fun. If we were always so sure we’d all bet on everything and never lose. And if everyone was always right there would be no money to be made anyway.

It’s easy to say the Spence fight was a mistake with the benefit of hindsight, however it was seen as Mikey “daring to be great” at the time.
Mikey isn’t really a welterweight but he assumed that Errol Spence would fight like a one-dimensional pressure fighter. That’s why he had no answers when Errol used his size advantage to box instead.
As for his career to this point, I think he has been successful but he has also missed opportunities as you said. Now he is essentially a part-time fighter who won’t face big threats unless he gets big money. That’s why he’s all in to face a 42-year old Manny Pacquiao but not a Terrence Crawford. And you can forget about any young guys on the way up.
Was a big fan but he’s been a part time fighter for a long time now. That’s fine. I just don’t expect much. He doesn’t talk much. I’m glad he didn’t get the Manny fight. I just don’t try to worry about Mikey anymore. He captured people’s imagination with picking Spence at first but then was so lop sided that it kind of set boxing back in the end. We all felt a little stupid. Spence is a great fighter of course. Not a big fan but he’s gonna be tough to beat. Probably get him an Bud in your home town when it’s all too late.
Pretty much wasted, he did good and is wealthy but could have done a lot more inside the ring, the out time with contracts kinda stalled his career and it never got going again.
Pretty damn good career if you ask me
40-1 record with 30 by stoppage
Multiple world titles across four different weight classes
Has been in the top ten P4P at one point
Can't ask for much better than that
He lost me as a fan when he decided to sue arum for trying to make him fight gamboa. Since he got with pbc he went to go on win titles in different divisions but against nobody worth mentioning.
I'm glad he didnt get the Pacquiao fight.
I'm glad he didn't get the Pacquiao fight either.
