On Episode 37 of the Porter Way Podcast, Shawn Porter insinuated that Linares took a dive against Haney. He started out by saying that he thought that Linares acted strangely in the championship rounds. Then, it became clear that Porter started to get more and more worked up as he was describing what Linares should of done. He said that Linares had plenty left in the tank after he hurt Haney at the end of the 10th, and a veteran like Linares should've known that he needed to get rough and throw more punches. Adding that Linares should've known he was behind on the cards, and he should have thrown 60 punches in the 11th, and 70 in the 12th. Porter then finally went from calling Linares' behavior strange...to calling it suspicious. Porter ended by saying that he liked Haney so he didn't want to dive down that train of thought.
Was Linares too old to finish the job or was his behavior in the championship rounds suspicious?
who cares if he did or didn't. either way haney got exposed for being one of many complete overrated boxers in this "sport".
Your kidding? Go to bible.com for this subject plenty of fire and brimstone fatalist there.
Porter just said on the latest podcast that he spoke to Bill Haney on the phone, and Haney was pissed about Porter saying it was fixed. He told Porter, "I'm not doing your punk ass podcast."
Porter is tough, determined, tries to win every second of a fight. He probably finds it hard to understand fighters who don't have that same dog in them. Not to say Linares is 'weak' at all, just that he doesn't have that mentality, especially at his age and with multiple stoppage losses. Porter will throw bombs vs anybody knowing his chin has always held up, Linares went for it in the past and got stopped. At this point of his career, he looks/waits for the perfect moment rather than forcing it. That skill and poise is why he dropped Loma and hurt Haney but it's also why he didn't come close to finishing either of them afterwards.
Where was this tough and determined try to win every second of a fight mindset with Brook and Ugas? Guess Porter was paid off.
One scorecard was as close as 115-113...
That's not a bad card. Because it's obcious Linares won round 10-12. I gave him 1 round before the 10th, but if a judge gave him another round, I have no problem with it, so 7-5 is not bad.. I didn't score the fight on paper, but it was easy to round Linares rounds before the 10th.
I agree!! Devin aint know where he was at in the 11, and liners didn't even try to put him down. so obvious! they were saying that Linares was in tremendous shape and was never hurt during the fight so idk why the lack of aggression the last two round!!

Eddie Hearn is a con artist so I really wouldn't be surprised. All you have to do is look at Dillian Whyte's controversial wins and that will tell you all you need to know about that lying, cheating scumbag Hearn.
It was very strange for me to see Linares blow a legitimate chance to upset Haney. I don't know Linares temperament, I just know I would have been way more aggressive during the 11 & 12 rounds, I would've tried pushing Haney away, taking a step back and punching his body, tried to catch him coming in etc. I don't have a problem with Linares not being able to finish Haney, it's just weird how it look like he even tried.
Yeah, even veteran boxers say the darnedest things.
Linares was simply tired. And how can you throw more when the opponent is holding on excessively for dear life? Like Andre Ward always reminds Tim Bradley, "It's easier said than done."
Porter also says he doesn't see anyone beating Tank at 130, 135, or 140, so he may be biased towards PBC's guy. Maybe Tank would agree to take the Haney fight after he saw what Linares did.
Porter is a clown, was he throwing the fight when he did not step it up with his usual style on Ugas? Or Brook?
And Linares was doing what he did the whole fight in the 11th and 12th, which was he was trying to counter Haney or throw with him. Issue is Haney was not giving him anything.
Not only that the score cards fro that fight were horrible, Haney won like 9 rounds. Yet the cards were close as hell.
Haney wasn’t only just holding wildly either. He was precisely trying to hold Linares while at the same time blocking his face so that Linares can’t catch him coming in.
It looked like a tactic that was actually practiced. Like him and his team know his chin is suspect and so they worked on a holding/blocking tactic for times when Haney gets put on wobbly legs.
That must be why they brought in Davison cause they were working on wrestling tactics before the fight you could see it on the dazn broadcast.
Just like Kovalev/Canelo. Canelo wanted a light heavy belt but couldn't hold pace with the crusher. Kovalev was so far in front he had to actually take a kill shot to pull off the scam. Fortunately Haney didn't have the dynamite so Linares was able to allow him to build up the points without suffering any real damage. The mistimed choreographed shot wasn't supposed to hurt Haney so they ended up having to drag out the last 6 minutes.

Idk how much you guys, and the media, were paying attention but at the end of the fight Linares was arguing with Bill Haney over his son hugging and running. Furthermore, Linares and Haney were bickering in the middle of the ring, with Linares complaining to him over his blatant hugging and Haney telling Linares “you didn’t even win 1 round”.
On top of this, just to throw more water on to the fire, Haney was indeed hugging and holding Linares while he was hurt; smothering anything Linares wanted to do. I am not sure what it looks like to you guys, but you really can’t catch a guy who is literally going out of his way to hold you, bear hug you. Like Haney’s sole moves during this time was basically just hold and run out the clock. Which why Linares argued with both him and Bill post fight in the ring.
You guys, and Porter or any other conspiracy nut, should really be more observing. None of these guys had the body language of fighters who were acting or in on something. If Linares, Haney and Bill were just acting during their argument, they chose the wrong profession. They have Oscars/BAFTA potential.
all Linares needed was one clean uppercut to land on the numerous times Haney just lunged in for the hug, instead Linares didn't even throw a single punch. If it wasn't a dive, it was definitely one of the silliest sequences in a televised main event, it certainly won't help in rejuvenating boxing.
A made a few good points but not all the way through, yes Linares looked like he had a lot left in the tank when he hurt Haney at the end of the 10th round.
But did his corner tell him anything in between rounds? Do we have a recording of what was said to Linares coming out for the 11th round?
Was Linares wary of a wounded animal in Haney at the start of the 11th?
You would think a championship fighter like Linares would know when someone hasn’t recovered and jump on him, but to call it suspicious is way over the top. We have seen fighters getting themselves in trouble by thinking the other guy is hurt, and them getting KOed going for the kill… Ruiz v Joshua came to mind.
No one knows what he Linares was feeling during those rounds, although he went on to say that Haney's power wasn't anything special.
He hurt him again in the 12th, and Haney wasn’t just holding neither (till he got clocked near the end). Rewatch the rd: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x81m4su
I mean linares definitely shoulda had him outta there. I mean it was painfully clear hankey couldn't hurt him so he shoulda just went in for the kill at the risk of burning out his stamina. Not like he was gonna win the decision anyway.
