Spence is not Floyd. Floyd has been boxing since he was a little child. Spence didn't start boxing until 15, which is fairly late, when he had already gone through puberty.
Even today, Spence's movement is quite stiff and unnatural, he lacks fluidity compared to Floyd or Crawford who grew up boxing.
Spence also doesn't have Floyd's experience.
Now, Spence is HUGE for 147 and has good skills, that combined with his strength and talent has been too much for most guys.
But Pac will be the fastest, and most experienced opponent he has ever faced by far.
This is an intriguing matchup.
Spence Brook part 2?
I can see a road to a late stoppage for Spence where he takes over after sensing Pac beginning to fade in the championship rounds. I think it'll be more of a boxing match than most people with them jabbing a lot and trying to counter each other's jab. I'm definitely intrigued to see how Pac deals with a Southpaw. The usual angles for his counters won't be there, and he'll have to reach a lot more to land his left.
Manny isn't the same either. He takes a lot of breaks. His 2nd half let Thurman make the fight competitive again. Spence gets better over the 2nd half. Personally thinks Spence wins a clear, but competitive win behind his jab.
Comparing Spence and Floyd is Apples and Oranges. Floyd is a generational talent and the definition of a true boxer. Hit and not be hit. Spence is a boxer/fighter with his own set of strengths and weaknesses. Spence will never be Floyd but Floyd cant be Spence either. Attributes play a big role in boxing and utilising your natural attributes are key to success.
You damn right he isn't. Still hasn't beaten a good fresh world level fighter.
He lost to Porter who is the only fresh guy his weight and proven. I had it 7-5 for Porter, but by only a point due to the KD. Brook was badly drained (Especially the second half of the fight) after going up to Middle. He was already struggling at Welter, so putting on extra muscle and coming down again was just a bad idea. But it's worse when you factor in the stoppage loss to Golovkin and his eye injury. Mikey was too small at the weight. It was a decent win, but no more than that. Garcia isn't world level any more. He hasn't had a win at world level since Khan. A win over him can't keep being good, it doesn't work like that. Again, it was a decent fringe level win, but no more than that.
His resume is smoke and mirrors, just like Canelo's. Awful in fact.

I disagree. He's better than Floyd.
Spence is completely different beast.
Spence will win against Pac if the strategy is right.
Obviously Spence is not as mobile as Floyd. The only close similarity is the jab, but it seems Pac knows how to negate a jab, even against Floyd.
The only way for errol to win is to go to the body in the early rounds and deplete pac's stamina. this will give errol the opportunity to breakdown pac in the second half; pac will become flatfooted in the second half as seen in the thurman fight.
thurman did great body work in round 2, 3, and 5. which took out manny's footwork in the second half of the fight. errol is not gunna win this if he fights in the outside. he is not as mobile as floyd. and he fights in the front foot.
if errol focuses on the body in the first half, he will win by stoppage.
if errol fights in the outside in the first half, he will lose by decision.
I actually think Spence is better than some think. He and Crawford have to fight in 2022. They both have enough money now, go have some balls and prove you are the best in the division. As much as I rate Crawford, I actually think he wants to swerve the Spence fight.
Thats a good way of putting it, it really is a transitional period in time, nobody has stood up with ATG potential its just a bunch of guys trying to establish who is the best of the bunch, I don't think the bunch is as good as the last generation and only Floyd was better than Manny, both ATGs, your other point about Winky Wright is not far of the mark either.
Good fight and Manny is definitely in with a decent chance.
Agreed but the annoying thing is that there potentially could be an ATG @ 147lbs if they would get the finger out and actually fight each other lol
His attributes still should be too much for 42 year old Pacquiao.
pacquiao already showed signs of old man stamina vs Thurman. And that was 2 years ago. He wont be able to keep up with spence pace unfortunately.
I say the complete OPPOSITE!
I think Spence is BETTER than what he gets Credit for especially SKILL WISE! People THINK he is Flat Footed and Slow because with his style it is a catch and shoot style he is more stationary and he does a good job keeping his feet grounded to generate Power even behind that jab. Also far more versatile than people give him credit for and he has better DEFENSE than people want to give him credit for he has a excellent high guard. You rarely see Spence Jr really marked up or busted up badly after a fight besides the Porter Fight
I think people are Thinking all these things going into the fight but once they get in with him they see up close that he is NOT Slow or Flatfooted. Chris Algeiri spoke on this multiple times as someone who been in with him, Stating that Spence is much craftier in that Ring than he Looks
That being said, absolutely I give the LEGEND Pacman a great chance and a shot at beating Spence and no I don't think anybody is just going to walk through Pacman not even a 41-42 years old Pacman
I think he's better than he gets credit for he is one of the most fundamentally sound southpaws he does the basics extremely well combined with his front foot pressure style and conditioning he is a problem. I think he gets underrated because he isn't insanely explosive or ridiculously fast. The term educated pressure is so overused but Spence fits that term to a tee. Smart, educated pressure.
Manny looked dog tired to me vs Thurman in the second half of that fight. 2 years on with such inactivity.
This isn't going to end well.
I hope its a quick K.O because Spence punishes guys, this could be really hard to watch.
Its a fight you get excited for until it happens then you're just left feeling sad, watching a legend just getting busted up.
yeah, i don't want to see Manny or any fighter get seriously hurt during a fight.
ring rust aged overnight?
he looked bad in the thurman fight.. I scored the fight 6-6. Manny won the first 5, and from rounds 6-12 only won 1 round. The knockdown gave him the win. At one point I thought he was gonna get stopped. he was taking some punishment. That 10th round body shot gave Manny the 10th. he faded badly
ring rust aged overnight?
Most fighters seem to age overnight between their last good win and a lackluster defeat that shows their age as well as a career of wear and tear. A 40+ year old fighter taking two years off and then challenging the top guy at 147 is beyond ring rust.

I think Manny is going to look every day of his 43 years of age. A two year hiatus likely aged him beyond return. Last shirtless pic I saw of him a couple months back he looked really soft. Like a true warrior, he is going out on his shield though.

Agree.
This generation just aint as good as Floyd or Manny were.
It’s a big part of why Manny can still compete with top welters such as Thurman or Spence, but at same time you have to factor in his age it just balances out. Also, current top fighters aren’t as tough as previous generation, lot more cherry picking and ducking within this generation.
Pac still a live dog in this match up, and most will be surprised just as everybody was with the Thurman fight.
Crawford in his last two fights was dropped by a C list fighter and had his Eye busted within 3 rounds by Brook. He would get hit even more if he threw at the rate Spence does.
Thing is he always makes the adjustments and last 6 or more rounds of the fight he is untouchable, you can't hit him. Even if he has slow starts. This happened against Brook, round 1 and 2 didn't go too well for him. People talk about how he caught him with a good shot in round 4 but what they don't talk about was when in round 3 he switched to the southpaw stance and COMPLETELY took away Brook's jab. Bud is a boxing genius and always able to make these adjustments. Nobody had ever just completely outboxed Kelly Brook the way Bud did round 3. His entire career.
Spence gets hit way to much. Bud will expose him.
