- Both fighters are in their primes
- All belts are on the line
- HW is more famous and prestigious than WW
- This fight might actually end up being bigger than FMJ vs MP too. Not only they heavyweights, but they are also fighting in the social media era. In 2015 social media was huge. Today SM is everything.
There are 'big' fights that people watch replays of multiple times. I've seen both Canelo vs GGG fights at least 20 times already. I only watched Floyd vs Manny once, when it happened and have no intention of watching it again.
So AJ is a regional star but Wlad and David ****ing Haye arent?? come on.
I found the statement kinda odd. In truth, neither of the three reached real global star status. Wlad came the closest considering he was highly respected in the US due to his dominance, but he never really inspired any interest due to his immensely negative style. I watched the Mayweather v De La Hoya fight recently and it was amusing that they panned to him among a bunch of other celebs and he was treated as a bit of an afterthought.
Nope.
Everything about it seems to be leaning on it being a dud. It will undoubtedly be the better fight but its strange. Despite being 1-2, neither of them really feel like true world beaters. Fury is likely the most talented heavyweight in a generation but he's just too inconsistent. Joshua is just not a heavyweight champion I will ever buy into. Very much a British media creation designed to extract advertising dollars. The BLM thing kinda alienated him among the Daily Mail reading tossers here in the UK (which may make for a more interesting set up domestically) but I don't think anyone in America buys into him in the slightest. His performances with Ruiz and Pulev were solid but perfunctory.
Then add the fact that it will take place in the middle east and I think it will kill a lot of enthusiasm. Dont get me wrong, its the biggest British fight in two decades. But, beyond these shores, its a toss up. Mayweather and Pacquio are icons who, between them, have fought everyone. The problem with Joshua and Fury is that despite their 1-2 status, there is a fat chunk of the division neither of them have been in the ring with. Fury does have Wlad and Wilder, but one is long retired and the other doesn't really have a strong skillset nor was he even highly rated in the states. Then you have a bunch of prospects and contenders like Usyk, Joyce, Hrgovic, Yoka and Ajgaba who neither are yet to fight. It will definitely spice up the division but, considering the typical bullshit politics that boxing is known for, I'm not sure what will happen beyond that.
World wide, Wlad/Haye was probably bigger. AJ is just a regional star, the Wilder/Fury rematch was a bigger fight.
So AJ is a regional star but Wlad and David fucking Haye arent?? come on.

No, it won't, not even close. This isn't the 1970s, the Heavyweight division hasn't been relevant since Mike Tyson. And the only noise the HW's made that resonated with the causal audience was when fatboy Ruiz KO'ed AJ.
Better maybe. You can make that argument. Being in their prime goes a long way as well being HWs fighting for all the belts.
Definitely not bigger than May vs. Pac, unless you're from the U.K. Not even close.
There have been bigger fights that Mayweather vs Pacquiao, don't be fool by money generated and pay per view buys '4 million buys is that it?'.
There was close to 1 billion people watching Muhammad Ali vs Joe Frazier III.
All of those fights in the 70's where in the 100's and Millions of viewers range.
Chris Eubank vs Nigel Benn two had over half a billion viewers.
This era of social media and obsession with pay per view buys kind of distorts things.
Most of those figures thrown out for old fights were hyperbolic BS though tbh. There were half as many people on the planet when Frazier/Ali 3 happened as now but with much higher poverty rates. The idea that roughly 1 in 4 people on the planet watched that fight is absurd. Half a billion watching either Benn/Eubank fight is even more absurd, It was shown on a free channel in the UK and did around 15m viewers there from a population of just under 60 million at the time, and that was likely by far the lions share of total global viewers. I doubt theres ever been a single fight in history thats done more than 100m viewers live globally.

May vs Pac = Biggest event in boxing and they weren't even prime.
Mayweather-Pacquiao -- Revisiting the richest fight in boxing history. When Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao finally jumped in the ring together five years ago on May 2, 2015, the fight became the richest of all time. Despite the money it generated -- $600 million in total, the fight had 4.4 million pay-per-view buys,
2 guys who either ruled their era (p4p/ppv king) or somehow did an 8 div thing.
AJ vs Fury just 2 big guys who happen to have straps due to a piss poor HW era.
1 guy is clumsy AF
The other may have chin issues.
if anything Wlad vs Haye had much more anticipation.
Lol you cant be serious with this. Fury/Wilder was bigger, AJ/Wlad was bigger.
AJ/Fury is the biggest HW fight since at least Lennox/Tyson, its probably bigger globally but smaller in the US. Its obviously not Floyd/Pac big but Wlad/Haye doesnt hold a candle to it in terms of mainstream interest.
it will be a better fight, because Floyd/Pac was a real stinker. But it definitely won't be bigger because Joshua isn't a star outside of the UK. For a boxing event to even come close to Floyd/Pac, casuals will have to get excited. American casuals only knows Joshua as the muscled black guy being blasted out by a fat Mexican.
Well, Fury & Joshua are in their primes & aren't letting it marinate like Floyd's & Manny 's fight. All belts are on the line & its a 2 fight contract so u know we're in for 2 great fights. The time is now, fellas; none of that waiting bullshit most fighters keep doing. Fuck da "0" in your record, fight for legacy, fight for respect
