I agree with most of what you said. But mandatories are important for the sport because it gives new comers a shot at the belts. The belts are important because they earn you historical recognition. They also earn you more money which is the whole goal of the sport. If you were in the mandatory's shoes you'd see things differently. Being that Canelo is honoring it in a quick turn around fight makes him a good guy I'm my book. He's doing this guy a favor. Were mandatories important the 3 times when Canelo dropped his belt to avoid mandatories? Yes, If Canelo vacates a belt that is even better for the mandatory. They still get their shot and it's a little easier. I'm pretty sure they aren't complaining.
