People never bring up the damage Broner was doing the second half of the fight.
He showed heart, great chin, and let's his hands go
If the fight didn't turn into a meme I think he would have gotten more credit.
Another thing to add is that at the time, Maidana was a bottom of the WW’s guy. He actually was not even top 10.
Wrong...

But you have to consider the level of opposition, no? I think all things considered, the Maidana fight us by far his best performance followed by Demarco. The others aren't even worth ranking.
No. I don’t consider level of opposition. I consider the question as it was asked. Which was “best performance”.
I am not going to place Mayweather’s performance over Gatti under his performance over DLH, just because DLH is better than Gatti.
Even if OP exclusively asked best performance over a top 10 ranked fighter in the weight class, DeMarco still stands as his best, because he was top 10.
Another thing to add is that at the time, Maidana was a bottom of the WW’s guy. He actually was not even top 10. He had been wiped out by Alexander and was on a comeback trail when he fought Broner. He upset Broner. Broner was supposed to win that fight. I have never in my life seen someone get credit for a fight they lost when they were supposed to win.
His best performance was DeMarco, who was #1 at Lightweight at the time and he totally dominated him and stopped him.
DeMarco isn’t a great fighter, and despite a very weak division he was #1 at the time.
It is the one and only time Broner has looked dominant or impressive against a Top guy in the division.
how did demarco get to #1 though? the top 3 guys left the division: marquez, rios, and guerrero. and some dubious ranking decisions. ricky burns beat katsidis, moses, and mitchell. moses and mitchell ranked #5 and 6 and unsure of the ranking of katsidis . abril had good wins over acosta and rios(robbery). demarco had beaten unranked linares who hadnt done anything at 135 and #9 molina. bad rankings there and great luck with everyone leaving hte division. a guy like baldomir as a bum but you can at least understand how he got to #1. demarco...dubious
I wouldn’t even put it as a top 5 performance.
1. DeMarco
2. Khabib
3. Litzau
4. Escobedo
5. Theopane
That’s as far as “performances” go.
His worst performances, imo:
1. Pacquiao
2. Maidana
3. Malignaggi
4. Mikey Garcia
5. Gavin Rees (this fight convinced me Broner isn’t elite)
Other “poor” performances: Ponce De Leon, Jessie Vargas, Granados.
I'd have ponce de Leon up pretty high in his worst performances there for sure. He was a smaller, come forward brawler that gets kod everytime he steps up in class. Stylistically should have been tailer-made for broner but he barely edged him in a controversial decision lol

If he could get back down to 135 he would be his fastest, sharpest, most active, with most power. Probably be at his best.
He made 138 for Mikey...I'm sure he could do it if he was disciplined.

He did come strong in the second half and hurt Maidana.
But never the same after that so I say yes, that was his best performance.
And yeah the memes after that fight were gold :lol1:
It was his best, he was going to rematch (which would have been great), but Floyd stole Maidana from him.
Would have been interesting to see if Broner could have came back or if he would have got KO'd.
Broner is going to be a gate keeper at this point, not enough action to win the big fights.

Yes. He showed really balls and quality in that fight. I remember scoring it 115-111 Maidana, can't remember the judges scores.
Maidana had found his peak at this stage, perfected his style, and a massive puncher at the weight.
But to Broner, taking the L had a massive mental effect on him, and he was never the same after. Not saying he was a world beater, but better then than he is now.

Even though he lost was Broner best performance vs Maidana? | BoxingScene Community
