The fella must have lost 3-4+ pints of blood from the back of his head during the fight. He was on top when it burst too. I find it odd that the commentators didn't even mention it. It was a cause to stop the fight it was that bad. Constantly pouring bloody down the back of his head, you could see it almost spurting out at points. Bad, bad injury that was, and the loss of blood definitely impacted on his performance. The body only holds 10 pints of blood, Kelly lost over a third of that from a vein in the back of his head.
Only point I'd make (besides stating that I'm not a medical doctor) is that head cuts bleed a lot stronger than facial cuts.
And if it's true that a vein actually burst, then it's totally possible that the blood loss drained him physically.
I would think a burst vein would have been enough for his corner to stop the fight and plead No contest.
This actually reminds me, there's a doctor with a YouTube channel that breaks down fight injuries. He did a video on Callum Smith's bicep injury (definitely not a torn bicep by the way) that was pretty good.
What you said makes sense, but as the fight happened the amount of bleeding didn't seem surreal. It didn't seem excessive to the point it was visibly obvious he was losing too much blood and that it may be affecting Josh's ability to keep fighting. I don't think the commentators, or even Eddie Hearn, mentioned anything about it. Seems like a convenient narrative from the day after to downplay the loss.
However, I could be wrong, it would be good to see if the Youtube Doctor does a video on this fight too.
I can manage because I’ve seen all the fights you have and more. I’m just curious as to what you think you know.
Lol, then good for you, I guess you know best.
List the fights where you saw plenty of blood.
I’m all ears.
Nah, just look up fights with bad cuts, broken jaws, etc. Rexy mentioned a good one with Bayou Jack, I think you can manage looking up more examples.
Badou Jack never made that excuse, but sure; Josh can :lol1:
Exactly, I've seen plenty of bloody fights before and this one did not stand out as one with an abnormal amount of blood. Definitely not to the point it could affect the outcome.
That's a bad cut. Very surprised they didnt stop it. I'd like to hear what the ringside doc was thinking.
Hope he recovers from that. Everything about that cut is kinda mysterious.
Speedy recovery - he was out of his league in that fight.
From what I have seen of him to date, Kelly's league is around or just above Frankie Gavin level.
He was bleeding nonstop and it gradually began to affect him. If you can’t wrap your little head around the amount of blood he lost then you don’t understand anything on the matter. Simple as that.
Well it wasn’t non stop was it because it was being stopped for a minute every 3 minutes
josh kelly is a priveleged kid. he is far from working class.
I imagine guys like Berchelt grew up in places where murder was commonplace, so they're willing to put it all on the line.
your ave boxers in the uk, inc amir khan, joshua, kelly, they don't have that.
It all depends what you deem ‘working class’ for uk standards he is working class, certainly not privileged
But he’s certainly not from a favela growing up in abject poverty if that's what you class as working class
Thread tells me there are some little girls who have never suffered a catastrophic injury and lost a lot of blood. Trust me when I say that it affects your strength, stability and mental acuity.
There’s also some little girls on here who think what happened to Kelly was ‘catastrophic’ and that was a lot of blood he lost
When I saw Josh Kelly fighting a couple years ago, I knew he was not going to be a breakthrough fighter. He was depending on reflexes thinking he was another Roy Jones but he simply was not fast enough to pull that off against seasoned fighters.
Berchelt walked through hell and didn't stop until he was damn near decapitated and rendered unconscious.
That's the difference in mentality.

Was it really that much blood that he was losing? Didn't seem like it to me, but I guess it might be a narrative used to downplay the loss.
Badou Jack never made that excuse, but sure; Josh can :lol1:
OK? :dunno: I mean they can run it back but Ava will just beat him again
Rematch not happening anytime soon, it was difficult to finally make this 1st Fight. Kelly has a lot of things to work on so the best thing for him is to rebuild by going back fighting domestic level for now

Cut or no cut, we all knew this was going to happen, look good for a few rounds, start to get caught, then brake down round by round... he needs to build him self back up and steer well clear of any rematch talk.
In all honesty his style won’t wash as a pro, he hasn’t got the power of a RJJ or a Haye. All his fights against top level will look the same.
I dont know what to make of this wound. Maybe you guys can chime in. Looks like Kelly dipped up on Avanesyan's elbow which ruptured a vein possibly opened a cut. fookin ell of an injury. last I recall of the impact from an elbow was Valero vs DeMarco which was really bad. cutman did a nice job with that coagulant doe. Kelly's kept pouring. IMHO, Kelly should fire the cutman. shouldve advised Booth to stop if he didn't know how to control it.

Yes that seems right. Was seconds after he caught Avanesyan with his best punch of the fight. Very unfortunate to sustain such an injury.
The wound was streaming blood down the back of his head for two minutes of every round. He lost several pints, not just one. Your view on this is a very uneducated one.
Not at all, people see blood and **** their pants!
Think how long a ‘trickle’ like that would take to fill a pint glass!
Certainly wasn’t a ‘stream’
And you think he lost several?
Humans only have about 10 pints of blood in their body, so you think he lost 30-50% of this?
Did he rush straight off for a transfusion?
My view is uneducated?? Hahaha
