For years Floyd and his fans bragged about how much longevity he had, how little punishment he took, etc etc.
Yet Pacquiao took way more punishment, was way more entertaining, and still managed to stay champion into his 40s.
How was he able to do it?
Like Rush Pac's has "Talents on loan from God!"

I think it's two totally different mindsets.
Floyd wasn't hungry wanted big money fights against limited opposition and retires when there no more short flat footed slow fighters to exploit.
Guys like Broner and Thurman should beat a waay past prime Manny simply because they are good and younger, but Manny seems to have a hunger intangible that Floyd can't match.
Floyd had 2 fights at 38, retired on top and beat the second best welter in pac
Pac had the horn fight at 38, which even if you think pac won, he still had a rough night against an unknown australian school teacher
The fights Pac had after floyd's retirement age are:
Lucas Matthysse - shot
Adrien Broner - who didnt have a win in 2 years and that was a split decision over Granados
Thurman - had one fight in over 2 years where he struggled with his tuneup Josito
It’s by choice. Boxing is a tough sport, a very grueling sport that takes 100% to make it to the top and stay there. Floyd made way too much money to want to continue to box professionally.
Do you believe that Floyd can’t stay undefeated from 2016 through 2019 if he fought: Bradley, Vargas, Horn, Matthysse, Broner and Thurman? I am confident he could have.
Kudos to Pacquiao of course, it’s great for him that he could still fight at or near the top level. It’s amazing actually. He has a little bit of Bernard Hopkins in him in that sense. He is no longer the very best out of all the fighters around him but if you sleep on him like Thurman did, you’re not going to get the W from him.
There's no paradox.
Great fighters can continue further than normal through superior attributes -- and both of these guys are great fighters. The only difference in terms of how deep their pro careers went (and it's not that big a difference -- Paq's pro career is about 3 years longer at this point, taking the date of his last fight as the extent of his career) is that Mayweather called it a day at a certain point and Pacquaio has chosen to keep it going a bit longer. No more, no less.
If I was to give a simple, snappy answer it is that maybe Floyd had the incentive of protecting that 0. Great or not, the chances of taking an L start to ramp up even for the greats beyond a certain age. Paq doesn't have that legacy concern about protecting the 0 and is therefore, I would assume, a bit more cavalier when it comes to risking an L to an otherwise inferior fighter by battling on into his 40s.
Floyd is older and he retired while still the best fighter in the world.
You don't think Floyd could have gotten off the couch and smoked guys like Bradley, Vargas, Horn, Matthysse, Broner, or Thurman if he wanted to? Maybe a fully healthy Keef would've troubled him but not the shell of a guy that we saw against Josesito and Pac.
Greatness isn't about what people say.
Let's pretend in an imaginary world where dlh, cotto and hatton say floyd is the best skilled boxer they fought.
History and historians will have seen with their own eyes what pac did to them.
Historians will judge on what they saw. They won't care what was said by hatton said if he got koed in 2 rounds by pac. That's what will matter. Historians judge on what happened and what they see. Historians will conclude pac did better.
Historians will see that Pacquiao weight drained dlh and cotto. Historians may be impressed that Pac ko'd hatton in 2 rounds which took floyd 8 rounds. But historians will judge that because Floyd beat pac, has better victories, and never lost, that he is therefore better.
Everyone that fought Floyd has said that Floyd is a better boxer than Pac. I know it hurts but Pac is behind Floyd.

Personally I feel that Mayweather was always boxing these young up and comers in the gym. He sensed he was slipping and got out. Nothing wrong with that. Smart man in my opinion.
Pac, I feel, is just a ball of energy. He still LOVES boxing, basketball and exercising.
He has great genetics too. I really wish he would retire though. Dont want to see him get hurt.
This.
Pac loves to fight. Floyd loves money.
Floyd took financial control of his career early, and made a long-term plan for how he was going to make a ton of money and get out before his health got ruined. He learned from what happened to his father and his uncle.
Pac has made a lot of money too, but I'm guessing a lot more of it has gone to other people. Usually guys keep fighting into their 40s because a) they're like the Rolling Stones - they keep going because they don't know how to do anything else, or b) they didn't handle their finances and they need the money, or c) both.
Nobody knows Pac's situation except him and his accountant, but I'm guessing it's some amount of c).
It is something historians value longevity. More than unbeaten records. Even floyd fans are threatened by Pac s longevity with excuse like pac is fighting because he has to not because he cares for legacy? I mean, pac is winning fights against very good opponents he's not a journeyman.
So what makes someone greater? Home advantage wins, a former flyweight with 70 fights under his belt being your best win.?
pac isn't floyd's best win lmaoooo
Floyd's best wins >>> pac's best wins
Floyd beated Pac, easily
Pac's greatest nemesis after Floyd, Marquez, KNOCKED the **** outta Pac. Floyd schooled Marquez for 12 rounds
Everyone that fought Floyd has said that Floyd is a better boxer than Pac. I know it hurts but Pac is behind Floyd.
It’s a reflection of their greatness and longevity.
But just because a guy has more longevity doesn’t necessarily make them greater.

Because he had to.
If a boxer starts at 16, wins titles at 19 and for example is still competing at 50 years old, it is a reflection of greatness.
It is either here or there. Someone who does things at highest level for longer is greater. Anyone who does things for shorter duration there's more element of luck involved you've just not be found out. The longer you do things more chance to be found out.
Otherwise what reason would there be for old men to box in a young man's sport you'd be on a hiding to nothing you can get hurt. It's not child's play.
It’s a reflection of their greatness and longevity.
But just because a guy has more longevity doesn’t necessarily make them greater.
