My thoughts on this fight is I expect a clear win for Canelo but there's people who believe BJS is the most skilled fighter Canelo can face & he can or will win.
Styles make fights & I just don't see it. BJS has finally been rewarded for repeatedly ducking top competition. I don't understand how the people that have belief in him continue to after everything he's done.
Don't fight the guy that's being protected fight the guy hes being protected from & that goes for both. If Canelo struggles like I don't expect him to, against a style that draws some similarities to what he hasn't faced since Lara in BJS, I think it would be very, very telling.
So what would it mean to you?
I don't see him trading skillfully difficult for physically dangerous.
I know it sounds crazy but Canelo has been tearing these bigger guys up. We assume that the "physically dangerous" guys will walk Canelo down but they have a hard time dealing with his defensive coordination so he slips and counters them to death.
On the other hand, "skillfully difficult" guys force Canelo to lead and that's not what he prefers to do.
It means Saunders is a very good fighter, which I believe he is, and a bad style for Canelo
The last slick southpaw Canelo fought was Lara and he arguably lost that. We can say Canelo is a better fighter now but there is no fights or evidence we can look at that says he can deal with slick southpaws any better than before.
it means nasal sprays are going to become very popular
Can't argue with you there, both these guys are suspect tbh.
Nothing Saunders has done makes me think he is that good. His best wins are points wins over guys GGG KOed years ago like Monroe, Lemieux and near 40 year old Murray. Saunders just barely beat Eubank and Eubank could probably beat him now. Canelo should easily beat Saunders and probably knock him out. If he struggles with Saunders he either had an off night or is not as good as I think he is. Canelo is trying to win all the belts and unify 168 so that is a good goal. Canelo got a good start on that goal by easily beating number 1 ranked 168 pound champion Smith. He has to fight the Turk next or lose his title as per agreement with the WBC. Then he fights Saunders and then Plant and if he wins all those fights as expected then he has unified 168 so he is fighting the guys he is supposed to fight.
BJS is a good fighter tho, if you were teaching a young fighter about boxing they could learn a lot from him tbh, as far as what he does IN the ring. He has a good boxing IQ.
The 3 judges and ref in Canelo vs Lara could have all been Cubans. It was difficult to score rounds for him because he just wasn’t engaging, not outlanding, more inactive and was just not pressing the fight. Canelo virtually won by default.
If BJS fights like this, I will not hold it against Canelo. I will hold it against the loser, BJS, who would just squander his chances of any other big paydays or a rematch.
Naa no way, majority of people felt Canelo lost to Lara..
If Canelo wins decisively there is no rematch. If he wins controversially a la him & Lara & doesn't give a rematch its going to look verrrry bad & be a lot of backlash on his part.
Says nothing, styles make fights, just have to see how he adjusts and that is the sign to look at
Naa it says something for sure. Could mean he hasn't improved against that style although I highly doubt it.
I think BJS boxes better off the back foot.
Not necessarily, it could just mean Canelo has problems with that style. I think BJS is the weakest champ at 168 & Plant, Andrade, & Benavidez all beat him decisively. None of whom fight like Canelo.
Not necessarily. Hard for me to say Canelo is special with all the help he's received in his career. & with how BJS talked about Canelo's PED test then testing positive himself, there's no doubt in my mind if not both, BJS definitely will be juicing for this fight.
Respect.
BJS is a hard guy for me to figure. My guess is when he has his 'nasal spray' he is about as good as anyone. Without the 'help', I think he is pretty average as he just doesn't keep himself in good enough shape to be top level.
I wouldn’t hold it against a fighter if their opponent refuses to engage.
If your opponent is a runner, then you have to win the fight by pressing. If you press a runner who refuses to engage or throw anything of note, and you’re throwing better punches (landing or not), chances are judges will give you the round.

I don't think BJS moves any better than Jacobs really. So I don't think movement will be an issue. BJS is lefty, awkward, tough, smart. That is a hard style to duplicate. If Canelo struggles vs BJS, it just means BJS fights to the level of his opponent and can beat anyone.

Fair game. GGG does have an elite jab which is why he didn't do so bad fighting off the back foot, just not a mover like you said. He held him off with the jab pretty well and I thought he won. But it's just difference since GGG doesn't move his feet and head like those guys. It's still kind of a protection job on canelo's handlers parts, he'll go nowhere near Andrade.
Respect.
I think GGG obviously isn't the mover on the back foot like the elite ones but he fought better off the back foot in the 2nd fight than it appears you're giving him credit for. Shìt he beat Canelo on my cards while Jacob's lost, but I'm getting away from the point.. Overall I think it's a DECENT gauge. I think Lara is better at what he does than what BJS does. Obviously I think Andrade is better than both period, he's the only slick black fighter Canelo can fight since Floyd, so Canelo's fighting a watered down protection plan version of that. Floyd's in a league of his own. But in terms of threat it goes Floyd, Andrade, Lara, BJS for me. There's a gap that may be omitted against the level of fighter/mover BJS is vs what he'll be used as a guage point as. I see what Canelo's doing, he's very strategic.
I'm not 100% sure what you're saying but I'm not sure Lara is a "master boxer."

for starters I personally wouldn’t expect Canelo to have to go in there and chase someone around for 12 rounds. If it turns out like that then it’ll show me that BJs just wants a check. He’s gonna have to be willing to engage if he wants to pull off a win.
This is heavily exaggerated in boxing especially in regards to elite fighters. Highly unlikely he runs around the ring or just moves like Loma Teo for the 1st 6 or so rounds.
But I've been saying forever this is a good gauge to see how or if Canelo has actually improved at cutting off the ring and pressure fighting since Lara and Floyd. GGG, Smith, Smith, Kovalev, these guys all suck at fighting off of the back foot so I'm not impressed that you walk all them down. That means nothing to me. Jacobs? He's a little better at fighting off the back foot. Impressive win. But Jacobs isn't as good off the back foot/as hard to hit as BJS, certainly nowhere near as good as Floyd or Lara.

Canelo struggles with master boxers but has beaten all bar one princess that he’s an elite fighter who can beat those even with the wrong style for him
I'm not 100% sure what you're saying but I'm not sure Lara is a "master boxer."
If Canelo were to struggle with Billy Joe Saunders then that would mean he has a clear achilles heel when it comes to movers.
I would then expect Canelo to reconsider his position on fighting at 175 because those guys are generally bigger and slower.
