Canelo on points. Ward won't have a blind referee that allows him to foul constantly. Ward won't have favorable judges. Ward has been inactive. Canelo will be one of, if not the fastest guy Ward would share the ring with. Canelo will be the most skilled fighter Ward has ever been in the ring with. Canelo has the power to drop and deter Ward. Ward will try to hug and mug along with jab from the outside. Canelo will hit him to the body when he hugs and out work him over 12 rounds.
THIS!
Son of Judges sure ain't Canelo... Canelo can both box AND has the judges.
Bad move for Ward in my opinion.
I would favor Ward prime for prime to beat Canelo by a close decision.
But Ward has been inactive for too long and is far removed from his prime until seen otherwise. Canelo would be too sharp for any inactive fighter that has not competed in 4 years.
Do you really believe the BS that comes out you’re mouth.
Canelo is the only one facing top compe and if you don’t consider it too compe then Ward is a straight bum with a weak resume because canelo craps over wards overrated ass.
Yea, world beater Smith, Old man Kovalev, slow starter Jacobs & Mayweather like Fielding. LOL. Go fish sista.
AND Ward will MUG/molest Canelo. You’ll be crying after that Ward is “too ruff”. Lol.
I don’t really see the point in this, for anyone other than ward that is. What does canelo gain from fighting a guy who’s been retired for 5 years and can’t draw flies to shyt?
Canelo is at his peak and one of the best p4p fighters in the sport. There are much more interesting matchup than this.
There’s no boxer from 168 to 175 who would be offered current Andre Ward and current Artur Beterbiev, in 2021, and they choose Beterbiev. Just stop with the stupidity and the name calling. No one is turning down an undefeated 37 year old Hall of Famer lol. To take less money to fight a lesser known, possibly tougher guy.
Boxing fan stupidity 101.
well obviously lol
He wasn’t. Never was. Still isn’t.
Still a better name, and would generate more interest than Beterbiev. People will tune in to an undefeated Hall of Famer vs a future Hall of Famer who hasn’t lost in 8 years. In a heartbeat. People will be interested to see if Ward’s comeback ends up being ill-advised, and how bad would he lose at 37? Or does he actually pull it off? Does the 37 year old, retired, undefeated Hall of Famer beat the younger guy in his prime and keep his 0?
While Ward is not a big draw like you say, neither is Beterbiev. He’s even less of a draw than Ward.
But Ward is a ****ty enough draw to warrant being critical of Canelo for fighting a 37 year old retired fighter who hasn't fought in four years instead of fighting the champ, after already dropping a belt in that weight class.
That implies Ward was a revenue generator. He wasn’t. The only people who tuned in for his fights were guys like us. Ward/Kovalev lost money.

Or a business move.
Andre Ward, HOF’er, bigger name, generates more intrigue, more attention, more money.
At this point, Beterbiev is the better fighter, tougher fighter, higher chance of beating Canelo. But that’s not how boxing works. Beterbiev beats Ward at this point too. He is clearly the better fighter. The legacy fight. But he is not the better money fight. Call it a duck, a smart move, call him scared (I doubt Canelo is scared of anyone). In the end, prize fighters are looking for the best name they can face for the best money.
Even fighters from “back in the day” were always looking for the best money fights they can find. Fab 4, Ali, Robinson (heard he was a diva), Marciano, Louis. All these guys chased big money fights, big names. Nothing’s changed in 2021. Everyone still looking for the big money fights. If you and I were pro boxers, we’d be looking for the same thing.

Age and inactivity is a b.tch. George Foreman had a ton of positives when he made his comeback. Mainly size and power. Not everyone is George Foreman.
As far as Hopkins goes, he never took a day off. He fought til 51 with no real long layoffs at all.
37 years old and 5 year layoff, vs a 30 year old fighter in his prime who has yet to take a year off from boxing. I wouldn’t like Ward’s chances in this fight.
Canelo weighed 165 against Mayweather. That’s a rather shameful 7lbs increase in which is described as lying.
He was draining down in those days to make the scale, then rehydrating back up into his true weight neighborhood. Learn some facts before making wild accusations and insults like a girl.
From 2019: "“It’ll be his speed and power. A lot of people don’t realize that Canelo is the bigger guy,” De La Hoya said. “He’s smaller, but he’s thicker. He’s always been a guy with a thick neck, and thick legs. Canelo has always been the one to drop weight. Canelo walks around at 190, 185. So a lot of people will be very surprised when they step inside the ring and see the minimal difference in size,” De La Hoya said."

Lol. You’re assuming Canelo was draining for a LHW fight. Canelo was already filled at the scale whereas Kovalev was drained as usual. Most LHW’s outweigh and are bigger than Canelo. Why do you think he’s not really competing there? Others won’t hold back like Kovalev.
You didn’t think about that? Lol

Canelo has better skills than Ward? Lol no.I think he does, but they are totally different fighters. Ward is very smart and willful, offsets his opponents on the inside without doing too much. Canelo has faster reflexes and relies more on his countering abilities.
Ward is more like a Bernard Hopkins on steroids, while Canelo is like slower Mayweather with more power.
I feel Ward’s mind is jus a bit too much for Canelo considering the size difference. Ward will find a way.

The number didnt seem right to me either but its hard for me to envision Canelo losing to Froch or Ward.
Froch was rough and tough but he could be clipped during exchanges (see Groves 1) and thats Canelos bread and butter. Canelo has several layers MORE than Groves so he could go 12 rounds without folding following a KD
Ward was a clincher, rabbit puncher, and low blower. He wouldnt be allowed to do those things without penalty against Canelo. Also, it was a counter right cross that Kovalev KD Ward with. Its a close fight but Ward was bigger and longer although even in his prime Ward went life and death with Bika.
Canelo weighed 172 on fight night versus Mayweather all those years ago ...
Anyway, if Ward takes the time to actually get in shape and be ready, it would be easy work. Much easier than Froch.
I think Froch in shape would win vs Alvarez too.
I disagree but respect your opinion
When you're Kovalevs size & you already weigh 185 morning of the fight, its very likely he gained 10-15 lbs as the fight took place several hrs late(as every fighter whos kovs size). (& Canelo was maxed out already as hed just be fat & slow if he gained more)
Even though Kovalev beat Yarde, he took a lot of punishment in that fight. Yarde landed more punches on him than anyone else in his career according to the punch stats. Kov only had like 8 or 9 weeks between Yarde and Canelo, no recovery time between camps, so he wasn't fully recovered and went into the fight around 60%, maybe 70% at best I'd guess.
He even said afterwards that he asked to delay it so he could have more time to recover from his last fight but Canelo said it was now or never. I think Canelo would have still probably beaten a 100% Kovalev but very unlikely he would have knocked him out and it would have probably been a close, controversial decision.
15 extra lbs of hydration in 12 - 13 hours ... right. Try that sometime.
