Canelo Schedule is looking like
Callum Smith - Dec 2020
Avni Yildirim - Feb 20201
TBD - May 20201
TBD - Sept 2021
So Canelo is giving us 4 fights in less than 12 months, 1 Mandatory, 1 Champion, 2 TBD. I dont see the issue people are having with Canelo Schedule, fighting more imo is great for us fans and the sport.
Not to mentions thats 4 more cards undercard fighters get to fight on that otherwise wouldnt be able to fight because they cant command the $$$ to put on a fight during covid, but under canelo card they can get the chance to fight.
Writers get more work, youtuber can make more videos.
Imagine how the sport of boxing would be if all the top fighters fought 4 times a year this sport will explode!
Matters on the level of comp. No legit reason for A CHAMP to fight bums unless the sport has somehow made them mandos.
Boxing LOVES sanctioning mismatches
It's a no win situation. They fight their mandatory? They're ducking better fighters. They don't fight their mandatory? They dropped the belt to duck their mandatory.
The fighters should be more active. The alphabets should rank better mandatories. The fans should stop being toxic fanboys/haters spinning whatever narrative fits.
Great post
I don't mind it at all, as long as he's fighting top competition. This next mandatory I don't have a problem with, he'll fight either BJS or Plant after
In my eyes guys we needa keep an eye out on that knee of his from now on the one he keeps a brace on. U can tell him an his trainer are worried about it since everytime he's in the locker room before fights they glance an talk about it. I understand its a precaution but still I would keep an eye out for that
I do not want to hear anything from you in terms of me fishing for a certain response out of you or that sorts, I was just speaking on you saying about yilderim fight not being "a very good fight". I was just pointing out that their are no great fights for Canelo at 168 that will quench any thrist for a great fight out of Canelo. The names/talent just arent there at 168 to make that happen imo and thats why I say its not Canelo fault.
That's fair enough, there really ain't a huge amount - specially at 168 - and certainly not at short notice although I'd pick both Ryder and Chudinov to beat Avni 8 times out of 10. I guess they couldn't exactly leapfrog their #10 and #11 over their somewhat baffling #2 though, and besides John has business with the WBA I believe.
According to the rules for franchise champion with the WBC every fight he takes is effectively a mandatory. This has recently been discussed in another thread. Honestly believe me I approve of folk fighting their mandos and I've already said I ain't faulting Canelo for this, but he wasn't actually required to fight Yildrim. What exactly are you wanting to hear here? You're wanting me to say it's a good fight or something? :lol1:

Its also why I say I rather see Plant vs Benavidez before I see Plant/Benavidez face off with Canelo because a Plant vs Benavidez fight is a great competitive fight but a Plant/Benavidez fight vs Canelo is not so much imo due to Canelo being levels above them talent wise.
I think fighting once or twice a year is dumb. You get your name out and become popular by being in the spotlight. If the NFL or NBA played one game a year they would have a lot less interest.
So I'm all for being active.
Canelo fighting his Mandatory. End of story.
This is how the sports is supposed to work, you fight your Mandatory and then you get a Voluntarily Defense. you fight your Mandatory and then you get a Voluntarily Defense. Rinse Repeat.
The only issue is you want Marquee fights but Canelo is at 168 who is a Marquee fight? Maybe Plant? Maybe Benavidez but that's it. Its not his fault the division he fights at doesn't have Sensational Fighters.

4. The Franchise Champion will proudly represent the WBC in every single fight as a reigning WBC champion. This is regardless of any specific conditions or titles being associated with all future fights.

Are you trying to say 'this ain't Canelo's fault'? Sure. Whatevs... I ain't really about blaming fighters for this kinda thing anyway, I just don't think it's a very good fight is all. I don't think less of the dude for it I just ain't real interested.:dunno:

If the plan is to unify 168 by year's end, what's the big deal about Canelo fighting Yildirim, especially considering he JUST fought literally a month ago?
If he fights and beats both BJS & Plant to become Undisputed 168 Champ by year's end, are people GENUINELY going to say, "Well he didn't fight Jermall Charlo!!! So Boo!!!!".
Speaking of....what ARE Jermall's 2021 plans?

You can only fight the people who are there.
the top guys at 168 is
Callum Smith - Defeated
David Benavidez - TBD
Caleb Plant - Turned fight down
BJS - In may its looking like.
Those are the top names at 168 and Canelo would dispose of all over inside of 1 year its looking like, Its not canelo fault he is the best in the division.
Now if you are searching for marquee fights than thats something different and those marquee names will have to wait on a Canelo's blessing or manifest their destiny meaning move up or down to 168 and get your self a mando status to Canelo.

It means I definitely approve of fighters being more active, but it's even better if they're active against more competitive opponents.:lol1:

Whats that saying, if he doesnt belong in there with you get him out of there asap. Dont play with your food. We done get paid overtime. amd I missing one?

It's funny because the fighters people are claiming he is ducking have resume's riddled with nothing but Avni Yildirims lol.
lol so true.
I think it's great, I'm not a big Canelo fan but you have to respect the man.
Yeah I cant see why the hate is for because if you a boxing fan forget canelo all together just look at the oppurtunity 4 times in a 12 months creates for the sport. More Undercard fighters get dates, more boxing writers get content, more youtubers get to make videos, ESPN, FOX sports everyone has to talk about our sport. The more eyes on the sport, the more buzz the better.
:dunno: More fights is better I think... not much better in the case of Yildrim, but better nonetheless. Should be kinda fun for the 10 minutes or so it lasts. Hope the undercards's good.

I'm all for staying active, getting the mandatory out of the way and then trying to unify. Canelo clearly has a plan and he's getting on with it.
Yup cant fault a man on a mission, he definitely following through with his goals at 168.

More activity is a good thing and the tradeoff to more activity is that every fight won't be against a killer.
I'm completely fine with that though because there are elite guys who only fight 1-2 times a year. You would think that the one or two appearances they do make would be against elite opposition but that's not a guarantee either.
Top fighting 3-4 times a year instead of 1-2 times would be awesome so hopefully Canelo can set a new trend. I can give him a pass on this fight as long as he faces top guys in May and September. Those are the money dates so I'm confident that he will
