Why the hell is Canelo fighting Yildirim?

I don’t buy into it. I don’t believe undisputed is all that important to Canelo. He’s a prizefighter, he takes the biggest money fights available. Thats just not real, name a fighter on top that does that ? They ALL have low rent opponents, look at Manny fighting an 11 fight Horn, its just the way it is because you cannot fight the best continuum. The thing here is the short turn around, there is no way he would fight another big fight in the time frame, plus its his mandatory plus its his chance to fight in Mexico which a big fight would be Las Vegas so he gets to perform at home with no issues. I dont like the opponent but I understand it.

Why the hell did Golovkin fight Szeremeta? Golovkin needs to be in interesting fights if he wants to leave a legacy. He should at the very least try for Munguia and Andrade in 2021.

Canelo says his goal is to get all the belts at 168 and be completely undisputed champion at 168. to do that he must fight Yildirim next or be stripped of his WBC 168 pound title. GGG's last fight was for the same reason. he had to fight the polish guy or lose his world title. These top champions have no choice but to fight their mandos or lose their world titles. Unfortunately it is just the way it is. After Canelo KOs Yildirim he will try to fight Plant or Saunders to try to win their titles. Yep............

bad analogy because in the NFL teams don't get to pick n choose who they play. boxing fans we never get the fights we want thats why the Paul brothers swooped in and their circus attracts casuals that don't care to watch fights like Canelo vs Yildirim. Fine then... it’s like Roger Federer saying I’m not going to play Wimbledon this year, I’m gonna go play some YouTube freak in an exhibition and put it on PPV. It would never happen. Boxing is becoming a circus by allowing clowns into the sport. As boxing fans we should be totally against this, it’s damaging the legitimacy and credibility of our sport.

He's on track to fight three times in 2021 so I don't see any issue in this. If he wants to become an undisputed champ at 168 then good for him. Looks like he will fight Yildrim/BJS and then someone like Plant/Charlo to close the year.

I don’t care if he’s a mandatory, GGG was a mandatory and he vacated the belt, Charlo was a mandatory and he became “franchise champion”, Derevyanchenko was a mandatory and he vacated the belt. Loga is a bigger draw than Canelo. just facts brother. They’re big draws but it’s not good for the sport, imagine instead of the Super Bowl we had the Chiefs playing a team of YouTubers cause it would draw more money. It would never happen. Canelo wants to fight 3 times in 2021, he just fought and undefeated #1 fighter at 168 who he gave up 7 inches to. IS this an easy fight? Yup. Not every fight can be marquee. Just ask GGG, who has 25 fighters on his card worse than Yilidirim. Yilidirm, BJS and ??? for his 3 fights next year. Not a bad year as long as that last 1 is the biggest.

Just have no interest in this fight though. Nobody does. Canelo should probably carry him a bit. I just want a nice undercard before I go do something else.

Mando fighter that is going to end in two rounds. Quick turnaround fight that lets him fight another two times in 2021 if everything goes well. Not crazy about this fight but mandos have to be cleared especially when he said that he wants to unify 168. Canelo vs Saunders will be a trash fight to watch but he will have to go after that belt because what he has indicated what he is going to do.

I know these theories aren’t always accurate but I feel like this one really highlights just how much of mismatch this is. Canelo dominated Callum Smith, Smith stopped George Groves, Groves outboxed Eubank Jr and Eubank absolutely obliterated Yildirim. Yildirim is evidently so many levels below Canelo man.

The fans are gonna make excuses for why this fight is happening giving Canelo an incentive to keep making trash fights because he knows his fan boys will mkae excuses and support him no matter what. This is what happened to Crawford

It's a shit fight, I'm not defending it or trying to look like a Canelo fanboy but if Canelo is going for undisputed at 168 then he has to fight Yildirim. Canelo has never really cared about belts though, he’s consistently just fought who he or GBP wanted regardless of mandatories or belts. I struggle to believe he’s suddenly gone full GGG and wanting “all the belts” is now a reason to fight no hopers. If he blasts him out early and still fights Plant, Benavidez, Saunders etc in May, at least it won’t alter the schedule. Just have no interest in this fight though.
