To be honest, I didn`t expect him to beat Cotto, GGG, Kovalev and Callum.
For each of these fights I felt like: Canelo is gonna lose.
Well, not for Smith fight.
Ginger is overachiever in my eyes or maybe I keep underestimating him over and over again.
Yeah GGG fights were close, yeah Kovalev was done, but still I felt like Kovalev should have knocked him out.
Canelo achieved more than I expected.
Are we being serious here? He lost to Lara & the numbers back this up. He lost to GGG the 1st time and was gifted a win in the 2nd fight which should've at minimum been a draw if not a win for GGG. He beat up on Rocky Fielding who is clearly not world class. He beat overrated a** Danny Jacobs (and made him sign a weight clause, for an advantage) who barely got by Derevy. Kovalev fought for a paycheck (he fought AlvaRoid 3 months after he fought life & death against Yarde). Callum Smith also fought for a check (what champion takes a fight on 1 months notice? & on top of that all he did was walk against the ropes the whole fight + he never threw anything dangerous at AlvaRoid, just an occasionally jab followed by an uppercut). Until he beats someone of note, he won't get any respect from me. I will agree that he's #1 P4P though off of resume alone, regardless if i think he won or lost.
Kovalev had just ko’d the new up and comer and was outboxing canelo most of the fight. kovalev just got caught and ko’d. Kovalev beats bivol and beterbiev. we will see soon.
Kov is quite fragile now I cant see him beating the two Bs.

People in here like to pretend that fighting Kovalev (albiet past his prime) is some easy achievement for any boxer that was 2 weight classes below him. They don't know **** about boxing.
The Lara thing is interesting to me because we say he’s improved a lot since then, but he’s never fought a slick southpaw since. so even if he has improved, which he has, he still might struggle badly with that style, it might just be something he has problems with. Most fighters have a style that’s bad for them.
That’s why I always wanted to see Canelo against Saunders. As good as Canelo is hes been in recent years, he would still have to show something different in that fight because it’s a style he hasn’t had since he arguably lost or drew against a slick Southpaw. What he has been doing in his previous fights is not exactly going to work in this instance. so he will need to show other sides to his game, which he may have now. Styles do make fights. Regardless of Canelo being more proven etc, it’s a very different fight to anything he’s had since Lara.
Eric Gomez from Golden Boy even said Saunders could be a bad style and very tricky fight for Canelo.
If Canelo could comfortably beat BJS, I’d be massively impressed. I don’t think anyone else from 160-168 could beat BJS comfortably, maybe in a close fight at best, he just has one of those styles.
That's the fight I want next Canelo vs Saunders. Would like to see Golovkin vs Andrade as well.
Yeah, what are people talking about there? Canelo won that easily 117-111 or closest 116-112. I had a draw with Lara, but Canelo has improved a lot since then. He beat Trout, but the scores were too wide.
The one he got away with was the Golovkin fight. Golovkin won, no arguments. The second fight could have gone either way, so can't take that win away from him.
Anyone having Cotto winning the Canelo fight is watching it wanting Cotto to win, and not scoring fairly.

Cotto?
That fight was barely close , Cotto won about 3 or 4 rounds
If you said the Lara fight then yeah. I thought the Lara fight was probably a draw or 7-5 to Lara. No way Canelo won more than 6, even a draw would be generous really.

I used to be critical of him at the beginning. Not no more.
He has shown a superior skill level and boxing IQ.
He is the new James Toney (but with much better dedication to the sport), you can't bet against him.
Tbh he lost to Cotto & GGG twice. Should have 4 losses. Canelo is an elite fighter those losses wouldn’t diminish him in my opinion.
I don't think he lost to Cotto at all, I think he did pretty well in this fight. However, I agree GGG won both fights with the 2nd being closer than the first. The decision over Lara was also highly questionable as none of them deserved to walk away as a winner that night, but yea you are absolutely right, these losses don't diminish either his skill level nor his accomplishments and him being the best P4P fighter in the world right now
I agree here. When he I first saw him fight i think it was against Shane Mosley and I wasn't really impressed with him, then he did pretty well with what he had and fought Floyd, and I thought that this loss was going to leave a dent in him but boy was I wrong, it's almost that he turned all his weaknesses into strengths throughout the course of his career, the amount of work he put in to improve is nothing short of admirable and with his limited size and physical attributes, he definitely is an overachiever
Note: I had GGG winning both fights and don't see a point of a 3rd fight since GGG is pretty much done.

Nah I like cotto but a thought it was close fight
He lost first ggg
Arguably lost Lara match

I thought the Cotto fight was competitive and arguably a draw, I don't complain about him getting the decision though. Cotto wasn't exactly Superman though
I thought he clearly lost the first Golovkin fight. He impressed me in the second one though.
Smith was kind of unproven against elite level fighters and was a big underdog.
I do think Kovalev was done. I don't think Canelo beats the LHW's who are still at their best (Bivol and Beterbiev). No shame in that, they're much bigger guys naturally.
I think Canelo is an excellent all round fighter. He seems to be a grafter and has continually improved. I also wouldn't be at all surprised if it turned out he'd done a lot of PEDs throughout his life.
To be honest, I didn`t expect him to beat Cotto, GGG, Kovalev and Callum.

I jumped on you for hating on him not that Im a Canelo fan I just know he is all quality and ATG in the making, I dislike it when guys are blatantly hating on a fighter, you know what I mean not a bit of criticism, just hating, the more I see it the more I dislike it and its all over this forum and spoils the place.
Its good to see you look a bit deeper at him even if you have doubts youre starting to add him up and that means your eyes are opening up growing, its very hard for someone that dislikes a fighter to be able to see the good thats there, even more so to openly give credit when its due, its non existent in some people, thats what defines a true hater they never give credit.
There is not a great fighter from any era I didnt enjoy watching fight, when you watch the boxing you realize we are lucky to have the opportunity to see them.
Life is short man hate is not worth the time.
lol Kovalev called anyone who believed he had a chance against Ginger, an idiot. Kovalev outright said it was a cash out, because he wasn't given any time to prepare after almost getting KTFO against green Yarde in his previous fight.
These are his words or your spin on other words ?
If he said that show it will you ?

His work ethic is to be admired honestly he has enough money to last 100 lifetimes but the bloke is back in the gym 2 days after winning another belt.

Man, I don`t buy that ****.
What should have he said after being terribly KO`d by the middleweight? Like hell, yeah, sure he said "I came for a cash out anyway, I had no chance to win."
