Thats true and thats why mayweather fought a young canelo. He beat him before he could develop into what he is today.
Mayweather would have never fought a true 160 -168 guy, hell, that would be too much for him.
For the Amount of $$$ that would be made from that fight, I think it would be well worth the Risk
Spence should start working his way up if he is serious, take a fight at 154 test the waters let the people see how you would look when he doesn't have to drain all the way down to 147. I think Spence would be Stronger and BETTER at 154-160, he has the Frame to really Bulk Up Sure!
Move up fight Lara at 154! That is a good fight and a great test but also get to see how Spence Jr does vs Lara style since many people think he can be Out-Boxed Easily.
I would rather him just stay at 147 and fight Pacquiao, Crawford and Thurman personally but I get it a fight with Canelo at Cowboys Stadium is BIG MONEY!
Not a chance any welterweight beats him.
BTW; Mayweather would have never fought Canelo if Canelo was something like this 7 years ago. He is now much bigger and stronger guy.
Mayweather fought unexperienced young version of Canelo.

Is Spence really that fast though? I mean Canelo struggled to deal with Khan’s speed but he’s renowned for having incredible handspeed. I don’t think Spence would trouble him much at all.
I feel like Spence has a high work rate with clubbing shots rather than a lot of speed.
Spence isn't a speed demon, however he is certainly faster than guys like Kovalev and Callum Smith. If Errol could pump his jab and maintain a high work rate from distance then the fight might get interesting.
All depends on how Canelo makes the weight and how strong Errol is at 160, Errol has the tools to make it a fight, Canelo been playing with weights which is fine going up, going down again can be trouble.
Canelo walks down and beats Spence easily........ KO would be likely.
That isn't to say Spence isn't a great fighter, but he needs to step up to 154 and 160 and get wins there before I think he is even competitive with Canelo.
actually no.
Canelo has a speed advantage against everyone he's fought in the last few years.
He would lose his speed advantage and get tagged a lot by SPence.
Spence has size advantage against EVERYONE he's EVER faced...not just the law few years...EVER. And Spence has failed to separate himself against Porter in a near Draw.
Why did the Porter fight matter? Because Canelo fights right in your face the same way Porter does.
Canelo is far stronger and far better than Porter and will badly hurt Spencer when he connects (not if but when). Spence is liable to get stopped honestly (and ruined)
And people whine about Spence's "power"? The dude never really hurt Mikey Garcia (a 135'er) or Porter or Danny Garcia. But Spence is supposed to have power to hurt Canelo?
GGG couldn't hurt Canelo in 24 rounds
Jacobs couldn't hurt Canelo in 12 rounds
Kovalev couldn't hurt Canelo in 11 rounds
Cotto couldn't hurt Canelo in 12 rounds
Yet 147 pound Spencer is supposed to be able to keep Canelo off of him? And notice how Spencer is begging for the fight at 160 and not 168...he's hoping Canelo wants to drain himself.
Canelo hurts Spence worse than his car accident if they were to ever fight. PERIOD.
Too big, too strong, too experienced. I dont see Spence having any tool to make it even competitive with someone of Canelo’s caliber.
It would be worse than Spence's car accident XD XD XD

I actually think the fight could be interesting if Canelo was drained at 160 and Spence carried the weight well.
As for Spence's tools, he's a smaller fighter and those are the guys who have troubled Canelo; the big guys think they can impose their will but Alvarez slips their slower punches and counters them to death. Then they retreat to the ropes and get torn apart.
Spence has an excellent jab and I would be curious to see if he could land it consistently on Canelo. If he can't land it then everything you said would probably be true, but if Spence could move and box from distance while maintaining a fast pace then it gets interesting.
