At the post-fight press conference, Canelo was asked if he would ever try to win a title at Cruiserweight. He ruled it out by saying, "No, it's too much. I think 160, 168 is my best."
He didn't mention a return to 175. There are so many options at 160 & 168, he'll probably only go back to 175 for an Undisputed superfight if Beterbiev continues his 100% KO streak.
You know you made it when you are "ducking" guys above your division AFTER moving up already
Canelo? Fight Beterbiev, Bivol, etc. or bust
Floyd? Ducked GGG!
Etc.
You know you are a B side (with KO power though, wins all hypothetical fights) when you camp at a weight, fight lower comp, and wait for the fight to come. Always get the KOs!
GGG best example. Mr 154 to 168 has to pressure to fight say Beterbiev
Crawford (sadly) getting there
Beterbiev. Dead ass resume
Boxing fans are stupidly predictable
I don't think it's fair to expect him to even go to 175lbs...... guys there can rehydrate to 190lbs.
Canelo done well and beat Kovalev, but be fair to the guy, he should really cap out at 168...... and be given props for even going that high.
I still think his optimal weight is 160.
Huh? He started as a professional at 140.
He's 168 now.
He's not Guerillmo Jones who started at 154 and went to cruiser. Jones was 6'4 not 5'8.
Canelo is too small for the higher divisions.
You're of that group that also raves about the division Pacquiao started his career in, not considering that both Pacquiao and Canelo were boys when they begin their career.
I'm sure at 16 years old, many fighters were two divisions smaller than they would have been at 18 or 19 years old.
beterbiev is food. he won't hit Canelo with his slow clubbing punches. he's also over 35
Beterbiev will be 36 in January. I can see Beterbiev stopping Bivol, then Canelo going up to fight Beterbiev to become Undisputed. Canelo has the luxury of time on his side, he never has to fight above 168 again with all the options he has at 160 & 168. Even champs at 147 & 154 will want to move up to get the payday that comes with the Canelo fight.
Fair enough, I have no problem if he never goes up to 175 again. I’d be a bit disappointed if he went up to to fight another washed up fighter though.
It’s one thing fighting a washed up Kovalev at 175, but the others are probably a step too far. Canelo isn’t that big.
Nothing wrong with that though, people expect fighters keep moving up too far just because you wanna see them lose.
Like when people wanted Floyd to fight GGG, even though he started at 130. It’s just to satisfy people that want you to lose, even if it means fighting to the point where your skills are just nullified because you’re simply not big enough.
