boxing is the only sport where consistency and dominance at an old age gets no credit. It's the only sport where fan boys make mythical match ups based on prime for prime. In soccer, basketball, or football no one says oh so and so was better because in his 2 year prime he was unbeatable. They look at long term dominance and stats. I think in time, his run will be appreciated more than it is currently. I think that is true for most guys in boxing. There is so much tribalism that during their run, it is hard to form any consensus on 'greatness' After they are gone and no one can easily fill their shoes, they tend to get some more respect.

The trouble is you have icons like Hagler and Monzon who benefited from lower weight name talent moving up, and retiring before age 35. At age 38 GGG is still a force. Might there me some more famous light middles or welters ( Pac ) to fight him? Yeah and it is just so hard to compare eras in boxing really. I see film of someone like Alan Minter, and I struggle to think he would be a factor in today's MW division. Who knows though, I've been wrong before. Canelo, Charlo and Andrade have all moved up from lower weights. I really wouldn't mind a Charlo or Andrade fight vs GGG, I just think that if he beats one of them, people will move the goalposts a bit and say he fought the easier one. Both of them are still a bit unproven. GGG's legacy going forward, imo, will be whether he can get and perform even better against Canelo in a 3rd fight. Or if he can get some other type of big fight or credential. Maybe that is Charlo/Andrade, or maybe that is going to 168. Hard to imagine him being able to go all the way to 175, but doing something like that would really help sure up his legacy. At 38, I don't know if he has much to add. He looked good last night, but maybe that was opponent related, or maybe he just felt good. At that age, I imagine you can feel 25 one day, and 40 the next. Will be interesting to see how he holds up physically the next few years.

Exactly. People who attack him tend to do so on the basis that he doesn't look as unstoppable against top class opponents as he does against everyone else. Yeah I mean I expected him to KO Danny - because we all thought Danny had no chin, and at some point GGG was going to land. I thought he would KO Canelo the first fight, because I did not think Canelo was able, or willing, to move like he did. But Lemieux and Stevens went 9 rounds I think with GGG. Murray went 11. I'm not super surprised that guys who are a level or two above those guys could go 12 with GGG, and win some rounds. I expected more out of GGG in all of his big fights, but maybe they went about as they should have. They could last a little longer than a Lemieux, and pick up a few rounds in doing so. im a big golovin hater no question...but ill say he does dispatch most of his competition what i do question though is the level of it....there are just some divisions that lack or have lacked....like say the HW division for quite a few years......again you have guys like curtis stevens...yeah golovkin whooped him....but that guy lost to legit D level club fighters like marcos primera and jesse brinkley..was embarrassed by andre dirrell many years ago too....so i look at a win like that and say "yeah so what"....and i think when you question that you start to question most of the other guys on that resume too.....yeah its impressive to stop them all i def see that....im just not overall too impressed.....even danny jacobs i start to question...yeah danny is good...but how good is he really? i feel like canelo gave golovkin alot of respect in the first fight as he sort of feared the legend...once he went 12 rounds he wasnt scared anymore...i dont care if golovkin was 27 when they fought the first time canelo would have just gotten better against him each time out i dont really want to see a 3rd fight...i dont think golovkin can bring anything for canelo or win....id like to see him fight a charlo or andrade or a callum smith.....we all know that golovkin is chasing that check though....golovkin can cry all he wants about thinking he was robbed....he may have you fooled but he loves it because he can chase another check.... I think that is and always has been the most valid criticism of GGG - it all comes down really to how you view the guys like Macklin, Stevens, Rosado, Lemieux etc - something like 15 of those fights. Going back to Ouma, I count most all of those fights, except some like Wade, Rolls, and Fuchigami, who were all below I think anyone's view of a 'solid pro.' . Reasonable people can differ on how they feel about those guys. A lot of those guys have a bad performance or two in their careers, as you highlighted with Stevens. I think GGG fought most of those guys when they were close to their best, and for him to never have an issue with any of them, with all the different styles, has always impressed me. But it is clear it wasn't a great era during his run, either. I just think he would have ended up having some close fights with some of those guys along the way, if he wasn't at least close to the very top level. Lemieux would have dropped him, or Stevens. Monroe would have lasted the distance and only got clipped a couple times. Macklin or Geale would have lasted the distance etc. Ouma and if you want to count Sergei as 'just one of the guys' are the only 2 solid pros to perform at all against GGG. Idk I just respect the high level he brings in those fights, it's impressive to me. All the different styles, and a solid pro who wasn't top level has never bothered him for a decade.

the most impressive thing about ggg, is something that the 'haters' never want to give him credit for - the dude has been remarkably consistent in his career, and never has had close to an off-night against anyone below top level. That is very rare for any fighter. For him to still be the same consummate pro at 38 is very impressive as well. He is what he is. If you aren't top level, you are getting koed and will maybe win a round. If you are top level, you will give him a competitive fight most times, and probably still lose. I know and that’s why I said I don’t blame him for not facing bivol or beterbiev...it’s an uphill task. Look what ever you think of golovkin he made a lot of defences , faced all his mandatories and was avoided like the plague at the height of his career...even Froch didn’t want to know. Yes Martinez really did avoid him and cotto out right refused to fight him. You don’t like him is fine but the facts are he beat everybody he faced besides 2 suspect canelo fights froch was at the very end of his career...just like martinez was...froch was damn near 38-39 when golovkin was talking about fighting him....in fact froch hasnt fought since 2014 lol....saying froch didnt want to fight him? cmon...thats nonsense and crazy.....golovkin hasnt fought at 168 yet......when you start saying "froch ducked him" youre reaching so hard and on many levels again..same with martinez....in 2014 he was near the end and injured and banged up and looking for a big money fight? who was golovkin then? certainly not a big money fight....again its like saying golovkin is ducking andrade and charlo if i say "golovkin is ducking charlo and andrade" what would you say?

i get that...i just dont think anyone is really convinced that golovkin can do any better...in fact most feel it could only get worse for him....him dropping szeremata 4x doesnt change much of that opinion golovkin said "anyone from 154-168" and "im looking for big fights no one wants to fight me"...ward contacted them and they said "no" because they were chasing the canelo fight...abel had been running around saying he thought 168 would be golovkins best weight also.....you cant play the "well that guy didnt fight at 160" game....it was a viable fight and golovkin was publically calling for people to step up....the truth was he wanted guys like froch and chavez at 168 but not someone as good and as skilled as ward......if you take golovkin blinders off you can clearly see that.... like i said...martinez was at the end of his line and was chasing a big fight like cotto too....and golovkin was still trying to make himself a big, viable, name....did martinez "duck"??? well maybe...but maybe not truly either Give the man his chance and let’s see....and let’s be fair golovkin is still the toughest fighter around for canelo and vice versa....canelo will not fight beterbiev or Bivol and I don’t blame him

Sadly, this is the truth of it. I’m a fan but he’s getting slower and slower. Most fighters at this stage would be done but GGG’s chin lets him get away with a lot. Only I’m afraid there is a bill coming due. most boxers end there career not on the best terms and it’s in there DNA.....you tell me one great that left with all the glory and I’ll tell you a thousand that didn’t. He still looked powerful , good accuracy and on point with his footwork so he far from shot and if he looked shot I would say yeah stay away and retire

At this point it point it would mean nothing to any unbiased fan of the sport. That is unless Golovkin won it clearly, which considering where each is in their respective careers, would be nearly impossible. yeah but he should be allowed to at least have a go....maybe me he will really turn the valve up and try and canelo out of there. He knows he won’t get a fair shake with the judges. And honestly if you was golovkin and you felt you was cheated wouldn’t you want to prove it again. We didn’t get this with Ali & Frazier or Robinson vs Lamotta or pacquaio vs Marquez. golovkin has been a great champion and he deserves his last shot at revenge.

sorry..i dont buy the "golovkin won those 2 fights and was unlucky in mosts opinion"...i saw the fights too...my opinion is different and id say youd probably find a 50/50 split on that around here too......youre entitled to your opinion on that but dont act like everyone is basically on your side...especially the 2nd fight...i saw it too...i saw golovkin beg for a certain type of fight...i saw canelo give it to him and beat him at it.... billy joe saunders is basically still a nobody...his resume is not good...i could care less if he ducked a golovkin fight...hes done nothing that proves to me hes top level yet....and hes a bit wack job upstairs also... martinez avoided him for the same reason golovkin avoided ward....because at that point golovkin was a nobody and the appeal of an MSG ppv against cotto was much greater....same with a chavez fight...the same way golovkin, who at the time needed big fights and claimed hed go 168, was chasing the money and allure of a guy that hadnt even fought at a full 160 limit yet(canelo)......when martinez was nearing the end of his line golovkin was starting to rise as a name....youre acting like it was a straight up avoidance...it just wasnt great timing ward was never at 160...Martinez was at 160.
