Since winning a SD agaisnt Lara in 2014 he has sought to find the path of least resistence, searching out the weakest belt holders of each division.
i say since Lara because i thought that was the last time Canelo wanted to challenge himself agaisnt a high risk low reward boxer, many included myself thought he lost, but it was a 7-5/draw either way type fight
next fight is:
Kirkland: who had not fought in 2 years. fair enough they wanted a highlight reel KO after the Lara fight which wasnt a great look
Since Golovkin has been calling him out around this time, the defence was Canelo is too small and is not a natural MW.
So he fights a tiny faded Cotto instead...at middleweight...
Khan: disgraceful mismatch. they needed another highlight reel since the Cotto fight was again, not a good look.
Golovkin is calling for the fight again. instead Canelo moves back down to 154 to seek out the weakest beldholder in:
Liam Smith: who won a vacant WBO (fisheyes special) agaisnt John Thompson. Liam smith had a padded record, mostly journeymen, best win was Jason Welborn.
To build off another highlight reel KO in another mismatch Canelo then moves from 154 to fight at a 164 catchweight
Chavez Jr: why?
in 2017 Canelo finally fights Golovkin after waiting 2 years, team Canelo clearly feel that the time is right after Golovkin didnt looked great in a close fight w Jacobs.
Clearly loses the fight. Pretends he won, his fans boo him and he gets busted for taking PEDS for the rematch
Golovkin 2: wins a razor close decision in a fight where most thought he still lost. like the Lara fight it was a 7-5 either way/draw type fight.
Instead of the trilogy that the fans demand, Canelo then moves up to 168 to seek out the weakest belt holder in:
Rocky Fielding: A fringe euro level fighter who won a vacant WBA belt.
Moves back down to MW and fights
Danny Jacobs: I must admit i didnt watch this fight, looking at the scorecards, 115-113 x2 basically translates to, could of gone either way for a Canelo scorecard.
Canelo then moves from MW to LHW to fight a washed Kovalev on short notice after he nearly got knocked out 2 months prior (i didnt watch this fight either for the record)
Now we have Canelo moving back down again to seek out the weakest beld holder in:
Callum Smith: (again on short notice) who just lost to a blown up middleweight in John Ryder.
So this is the Canelo MO...
move up and down the divisions seeking out the weakest belt holders.
Is this the mark of a p4p champion? seeking the path of least resistence? and stacking the deck to make sure you have every single advantage over them?
Of course all this will be dismissed as 'hater talk' or 'spinning the narrative of a great resume'
While i agree, on paper its a great resume.
In reality its a mirage full of lies, corruption & cheating.

That's an interesting take, here's mine:
Kirkland was a highlight reel waiting to happen so I agree. He was brought in to apply heavy pressure and get knocked out. Nothing more, nothing less
So he fights a tiny faded Cotto instead...at middleweight...
Cotto defeated an older Sergio Martinez to become the man at 160, and yes it was a bit of a perfect storm as far as timing and circumstances but Canelo-Cotto was also a big-money
PPV fight. I would have loved to see GGG get a shot at either guy in 2015 but I also can't fault them for fighting each other instead.
Amir Khan was also a highlight reel waiting to happen so I agree, same with Liam Smith
The Chavez Jr. fight was a PPV commercial to advertise the GGG fight.
I thought GGG won the first fight and the second fight could have gone either way. No need to rehash that argument here
Rocky Fielding was a tune-up that took place a few months after the GGG rematch so no issues there. The deal with DAZN was supposed to be for 11 fights and I wouldn't expect that to include 11 killers
Canelo beat Daniel Jacobs clean in a close, competitive fight
Kovalev was faded but he chose to take the fight on short notice so I can't fault Canelo for that. Sergey wanted a career high payday so he took the opportunity. Also, Kovalev was and is a name that works as a B-side for PPV so I get it.
Callum Smith is coming off a poor performance, however he had been in the running for a Canelo fight for months so he isn't going straight from his couch to the ring. Last but not least, Smith could have easily declined like Caleb Plant did if he truly felt like there isn't enough time to get ready.
Let's see who Canelo fights now that he is no longer tied to a specific promoter.
Honestly, it seems like your issue is with this ERA not being very good...so all those "Terrible Belt Holders" that Canelo beat for Belts is his Fault? I have more of a issue with the Likes of Liam Smith, Rocky Fielding somehow becoming World Champions that seems more of a BIGGER ISSUE!
Anyway, lets go with your "Cherry Picking The Best Resume" Theory...if what he is doing is so easy and he is taking "The Path Of Least Resistance" then why aren't others doing the same thing? Why GGG not doing it, why is he not moving up to 168 and fighting BJS? Just not buying you can Cherry Pick the best Resume in boxing because if that was possible EVERYBODY would do it
Also too...name the fights that you wanted to see Canelo in that he cannot make anymore?
Maybe you know something I don't...Is Canelo retiring after the Callum fight or something? So who's to say he doesn't ultimately fight Jermall Charlo and some of these other fights fans want
I dont know why you are asking me questions you already should know the answer to but ill spell it out for you anyways, EVERYONE cant do it, because they dont have the means or the opportunity, the reason Canelo can do what he does, the reason he gets clearly corrupt scorecards in most of his big fights, the reason he can cherrypick the weakest beltholders, is because he is backed by a huge amount of money.
name the canelo fights i want to see? none. like i said i havent watched his last 2 fights, i dont watch movies where i can predict the ending 5 mins in, and i dont watch fights where i know the outcome before its even begun. especially when the deck is so heavily stacked agaisnt whoever Canelo is fighting.
also lol @ 'people having unfair expectations of him'
im sorry but a fair level playing field, with no weight antics, no peds, no paid off judges, no disgusting mismatches. is now having unrealistic expectations? Isnt that what we all want? If so, why are you seemingly trying to defend the guy that epitomises everything that is wrong with our sport?
Do I really have to? I mean seriously!
It's OK, I'm no longer after opinions and bias', but details and facts.
Details and facts are the easiest discussions to have aren't they?
Face of Boxing is who Draws and makes the most money in the sport of boxing basically. Doesn't mean they're the best or the most talented but they're truly "The Big Fish" and everybody wants to fight him because fighting them gets you a Career High Payday
Can you detail how he draws and makes the most money in boxing?
All ive done is post a timeline of what Canelo has done over the past 6 years. Ive tried to keep my opinions to a minimum, so no its not so much about 'what i think' its about what hes done. If you disagree with my opinion that he has chosen the path of least resistance & cherrypicked the easiest beltholders across multiple divisions then please, let me hear it. otherwise the rest of your post just comes across as cheerleading & irrelevent opinions with regards to the thread matter. Epecially the 'Canelo has always given fans what they want to see' line which is so comically untrue that im just wondering what your smoking and can i have some :439:

i'm not entirely believe that manager thing.. tons of money changes everything even the managers. boxing today is a business like they said "in disguise".
They must balance being macho too the fans and make business decisions that benefit them either in the moment or over time, which is often leads mangers into treading water milking the system.
A perfect execution was Arum and Manny, lets say Floyd beat him in 2010, add up what Manny made for that fight, then add up what Manny made in all the fights from that point too the Floyd fight, Arum milked Manny all the way.
All this stuff is subjective, no blanket fits all.
Fighters might think that way, managers dont and there have been loads of managers that did not want to put their guy in with Floyd at the time.
i'm not entirely believe that manager thing.. tons of money changes everything even the managers. boxing today is a business like they said "in disguise".
Can you pls educate me on what the "face of boxing" means and how does one qualify for it?

I actually did read it...I just don't believe you can "Cherry Pick The Best Resume In Boxing"
If that is what you think he did then WTF does that say about the rest of the current fighters in boxing? :dunno:
Didn't have to fight Lara, Trout, GGG twice or Danny Jacobs but he did when people said he wouldn't!
I been watching boxing a very long time, I just understand that whoever is the face of boxing for their ERA, they're given just this Ridiculously Unrealistic Expectation that is just impossible and they will never be able to please everybody so why try? :dunno:
Canelo always give the fans the fight they want to see eventually and I think he will do it again and fight Charlo, Plant, Benavidez, BJS and all those guys but that still won't be enough...after that and if he beats them "He Should Move Up To 175 Again And Fight Bivol and Beterbiev"
So the Expectations only go higher and higher it doesn't stop. Often times then expectations are set by people who wants to see a fighter Fall so they start demand just the most ridiculous match ups

even with a brick hands i'll still fight him. you can't let the pay day slip just like that. that purse comes one in a million chance. do you still duck? win or lose or you might never get them until the end of your career.

a lot of boxers ducked floyd in the 2000s...it wasn't until his hand was broken and that he grew older that people wanted to fight him

i'm not into money but if your life is at stake i'd rather get the one with the biggest pay day win or lose. boxing is always a 50/50 chance.
lol you cant say Andy Lee was shot and George Groves who was just coming off a major surgery & admitted that he couldnt even throw his left hand during the fight. wasnt.
Agree BJS has a **** resume but hes clearly world class, again Plant is clearly world class.
Smith is clearly NOT world class. you can spin it any way you want, he wasnt motivated he didnt have a good camp, he took Ryder lightly OR you can say Smith was exposed by a blown up middleweight. and has never beaten anyone decent apart from an injured, end of his carrer Groves.
sicko why bother posting if you didnt even read what i wrote?

Not much anybody could argue about in your description. Another thing you didn't mention is timing, he is ready in training and knows the opponent, but they do not know, until the very last possible minute. Very smart tactics.
Boxing is a business disguised as a sport.
Funny thing is Canelo bias fans who argue that "he won this fight but it was close", well, when you seem to win all the fights that even they say are "close", you start to see the story.
Hence why I say Canelo doesn't have a place in the top 10 p4p at all, not just for the drug cheating, but, because he's lost about 5 of his last 10 fights.
please don't tell me you actually believe that Canelo thought he had no chance of winning.
who in the right mind will take down the offer to fight floyd? ofcourse no one.. winnable or not.

Put the groves who was beaten by smith against the Andy Lee who Saunders beat and I think groves wins!
I just think Smith poses a bigger test due to his size and reach because personally I think he beats both Saunders and Plant!
But it’s all opinions, no one really knows until it happens which is what makes it an interesting fight!
