I was a big fan of GGG and even overrated him myself but after the last few years, it has become more obvious.
He was the #1 P4P in 2017 after Andre Ward retired and lets see who he fought since then.
Danny Jacobs: Knocked him down early but couldn't finish him and was in a very competitive fight. Still a clear win for GGG
Canelo: Whatever you want to say about the scoring of the fights both were very competitive and GGG didn't dominate him in either fight. Dont care what anyone says.
Derevyanchenko: GGG knocked him down early but was getting outworked in the later rounds and clearly got a gift decision.
The main reason for GGG "Decline" is a vast step up in competition and not his age.
The WBA Regular belt always counted though. The Super belt is the new one. The fake WBA Regular belt is the same one that Tito took off Joppy.
WBA world title is the one Jacobs had when he fought Golovkin, wasn't it? When did we give any credence to that title or any defenses of it?

- -Much ado about nutin'...
For a past his prime boxer. He hanged in their with Canelo. Cant be too over rated. Cant think of anyone in the past 10 years who hangs with Alvarez, except Mayweather. Im sure hes overrated too LOL.
GGG is both underrated and overrated.
He's overrated because he's not truly an historic fighter. The regular WBA never counted, and it shouldn't start counting for GGG. He's just a great middleweight, but his resume, on paper, has noting historic to it. Him never fighting out of his division is baffling to me as well.
He's underrated because he's not a bum. He's actually one of the most skilled middleweights that I ever saw and has a lot of subtleties to his style that many don't notice. And I will concede that some fighters ducked him, though I believe he ducked fighters also. He also gets flack for defending his title, which I will never understand.

I like Kovalev a lot. He used to be a beast. At the point Canelo fought him, he was finished, and will never go on to do anything special. Pre-Ward Krusher was something else tho.
Yes Kovalev was not in his prime. But how many middleweights would you say could have beaten Kov that night? Be honest.
Loma, Broner, ggg would be the most over rated. Also AJ. Can’t forget the time espn had wilder as 10th or 11th p4p. That was utterly disgraceful as well.
GGG talent and skills are not overrated it is just people who used him for their own ignorant agenda OVERRATES him and they did so at the time to say he was "Better Than Andre Ward" and then they used him to be Anti Canelo Alvarez
GGG is a excellent fighter though, Good Jab, Great Chin, Big Power
I second this...
Some GGG fans are just that GGG FANS! At least some of the ones on this forum, they hate everybody besides GGG. Then you have the Eastern European Lovers who many are not even Of Eastern European Decent...those are the Clowns I referring too as far as them USING GGG for their own Agenda. They know who they are I don't need to go into what is so damn Obvious on this forum daily. I typically just avoid it because for many of them, the attention they lack in their everyday life is why they spend most of their day posting dumb stuff to get the attention that they lack in their everyday lives by getting attention on forums like this and in comment sections of youtube and social media pages.
GGG FANS/Eastern European Fans are one thing, BOXING FANS who just so happen to be fans of GGG are another!
Take a look at what Curt Henning wrote above this post that I have quoted.
Hes one of the people I'm talking about. He pretends like he never said nothing but he has and I've been on the receiving end of it enough times. Every dude like him who has his agenda does this.
Oh. "I never said that about GGG" but is still hung up on the fact that I said who is Andrade and who has he fought? That i said Szeremeta is the same as fighting Andrade because if Szeremeta is a nobody then so is Andrade. Andrade hasn't even fought anyone at 160. I dont even think he has a top 20 guy. Szeremeta? Ranked higher than all of Andrade opponents.
Then he gets hung up on the fact I said the IBF ranks Szeremeta at #1 which is higher than unranked Andrade because champions don't get ranked by other organizations which is the truth in every regard.
Your average Joe here doesn't even know anything about actual boxing i doubt they have the capacity to know the difference between being a fan of the sport and being a fan of a man.
You're gonna have to be more specific because I'd like to know who the guys who love Eastern euros so much. I'd love to compare the **** they do to guys like Curt Henning, BoxingIsGreat, Bidness, and those guys.
Cuz ya know. Those guys love playing their race card or just be stupid g.ay fanboys despite being grow ass men.
P.s.
What do you think the Agenda of the thread starter is?
Yeah I win most of the time.
I lost on Wilder so what! Least I'm not like u guys saying GGG knocks Canelo the fuk out easy doe...
I never claimed such a thing but if you want to lump everyone together then so be it.
Huhhh?? I'm the guy who puts money on fights. Unlike u when I pop off at the mouth and wrong it costs me $$$$. U can pop off at the mouth all day and don't give a FUK! Say oops! My bad
:lol1: we all know your history with gambling.
Ya but GGG was never in any real wars prior to the Jacobs fight. He may have been 35 but he wasn't the normal 35 that boxers usually are so age can be misleading.
I am not saying that it was all his fault for why some of those fights didn't happen and agree he was probably ducked by many. But the facts are that he was very overhyped by HBO and boxing fans in general and while he was a little bit older the MAIN reason for his sudden decline in knockouts and dominant performances was because of his step up in competition.
I think that both can be true. He wasn't in wars during his prime but he still had training camps and just about all elite athletes in any sport are better at 30 than they are at 35.
With that said, maybe his prime run isn't quite as dominant if he fights an older Sergio Martinez and a past-prime but still capable Miguel Cotto. I think he would have won those fights but maybe he doesn't crack ribs a la Matthew Macklin.
Then again maybe a younger Daniel Jacobs and Canelo still pose the same problems. We can only speculate.
Ultimately, he got his biggest fights when he was about 85-90% of his peak. Would that 10-15% have made a difference against Jacobs and Canelo? I guess we will never know.
