And for the record, a faithful married man could still be crazy about his wife and have copious amounts of sex; I am not asking if there have been any boxers like that, but rather if there have been any who seem to have been truly celibate throughout their professional career. If I remember correctly, Hagler didn’t marry till he retired, so depending on if he had any hookups or not, he may have been celibate during his career... correct me if I’m wrong
For the record, I’m not trying to make this into some weird thread about sex, but I really have to struggle to think of boxers who didn’t either have a reputation for sleeping with lots of women, or who were married to a stunning wife (also implies a lifestyle of lots of sex).
.
The only guy who I can think of, and this is pure speculative, is Sergio Martinez.
Lack of discipline outside the ring. When he was at 135 in his prime, he didn't hardly have any weaknesses.
Problem is Duran never beat anybody any good at 135
When a guy outgrows a div, HE IS NO LONGER PART OF THAT DIV.
It would be very impressive if an ACTUAL 135 lber were to beat a MW.
I’d put money on Teofimo vs Chavez Jr lmao
didn't have six pack abs, weak core strength
Not trying to be silly here but what does six pack abs have to do with it?
Being able to have six pack abs is more genetic than anything else.
I could name several fighters who didn’t sport a six pack and were or are quite dangerous in the ring, Muhammad Ali being the most obvious one.
I agree. I seem to remember reading somewhere that old school fighters abstained from sex before a fight as it gave them more energy in the fight. I know Shaolin monks who practise martial arts do something similar.
Iam talking more about cheating . For me sex with your wife is fine outside of training.
Iam a strong believer though if you truly love your wife you wouldn't hurt and cheat on her.
Yes, I agree that cheating is the worst. Never done it and hope to God I never do. There’s few things crueler a man can do to his wife.
That’s fascinating about the Shaolin monks! Always been impressed with those guys. Elite on so many levels.
It’s hard to say, but I think that sex in itself if done too often, married or otherwise, could negatively effect a boxer’s preparation for fights.

Yes big shame about the way he let himself go after the first win over Sugar Ray Leonard. Parting and all that.
True mark of a champion is sacrifice in the face of pleasure for me .Very few had the mental resolve to overcame this including Muhammed Ali/Rocky Marciano/Mike Tyson who all liked the women to much.
I dont know if he cheated but I think one that stands out for me as one who sacrificed and gave his all with training is Marvin Hagler.
Have there been ANY fighters who weren’t crazy about women? I’m not trying to argue, just couldn’t think of any truly spartan fighters. Did Hagler stay away from women during his career entirely? I hadn’t heard one way or another regarding Hagler, but I know of some guys studying STEM who stayed away from women completely in college for the sake of their grades / future, so it is done. I technically stayed away from women in college as well, but it was more of a case that I was a shy loser at the time and definitely not intentional ;)

Himself / temperament.Yes big shame about the way he let himself go after the first win over Sugar Ray Leonard. Parting and all that.

What were some of Durans weaknesses?
Take it to the history section. The majority of poster here have only seen hi light videos of Duran of they've seen him fight at all.
