I was talking to a guy at my job who is like 6'3 and he said that in a street fight or boxing match he would beat up anyone that's shorter than him just because he's a taller guy. I even asked how he thinks he would do against a Pacquiao or Mayweather inside a ring and he said he'd destroy them. Now mind you this guy has no amateur/professional fighting background. Just a meathead who constantly lifts.
Smaller fighters can step around him or get inside on him, hit him with an upper cut or angle in a hook to the head or body. Dude probably got stone feet if he is a meathead.
well it doesnt make you a better fighter, but if that fighter is super quick or fast and skilled too. Plus he keeps his punches straight and compact it does help. Getting punched down on adds to the speed and power. This increases the force. So that is why guys like Hearns and taller guys like Arguello and Monzon were such good punchers. Prime example Wilder with the right. He sucks to me technique wise , but his straight right is a killer , plus it travels down against most opponents.
If I had to pick qualities for a fighter I would rather clearly take a good chin, reflexes or speed over a long reach, height , there are many other attributes than size.
Long reach/size sure can be an advantage if you know how to use it, (if you know how to fight tall and counterpunch.)
so you need in order to use it well to have respectable power, accuracy, IQ, speed, timing, calmness, toughness, chin, stamina, strenght, footwork, skills.
Many tall, long fighters doesn't have half of those qualities and that's why they get beat down by smaller fighters.
That Stanionis dude is a problem.
DeLoach can't fight tall.
Yep I feel slightly vindicated I saw something in him despite people saying he only fought bums. Also called the KO and made some coin.
I know I'm not the most knowledge boxing fan and probably use the wrong words or criteria to judge prospects but couldn't help see the talent in him. I studied both fellas for a couple nights and the stoppage seemed imminent after how chinny and cawky DeLoach looked.
Won't let me write that word properly without censoring it haha
The guy is just a full of sh it bragger, It it were true all boxing champions would be tall for their weight. Short powerful boxers like Tyson, Marciano, Hagler, Canelo etc. would always lose to good taller boxers and that is not true.
exactly--
i'd go as far as saying height is an overrated variable unless talking about basketball..
Height alone does absolutely nothing
Just look at last night crossroads fight between Eimantas Stanionis and Justin DeLoach....
Some tall guys are just food

How does he know that if he never fought in a ring?
That is just ignorance, he doesn't know what he is talking about.
Pacquiao would kill him, there are level to this sht.
A body punch from Pac without glove to a random dude means Hospital. Even if that guy is 6'6 and 250 lbs.
How he would beat a 5'10 guy like a young mike Tyson?
Even lil Santa Cruz would body bag him.
I have been fighting a bit young in ams, I have sparred with some pros, there are levels trust me.

I understand exactly what he's feeling. I feel exactly the same way but fortunately my realistic side is quick to step in. This guy needs a dose of reality.
