Basically
he didn't even try to win until the second half of the fight
but by then, Teofimo already had all the first half of the fight in the bag due to activity alone
seriously wtf was Loma's thinking, you don't come to a fight expecting to win without throwing punches, he looked worse than Broner out there! This is not Loma. This is not what he does.
and he wasn't scared of Lopez's power either, don't give me that crap. Remember when Walters was the most feared puncher in the division and how Loma made him quit? and on top of that, Teofimo didn't land any bombs on Loma in the early rounds, he was never dropped or hurt, and he only got momentarily stunned once in the 12th, when he was (finally) swinging for the fences.
Aside from some body punches, Lopez barely landed anything clean in the early rounds! so how could Loma be "scurred" of Teofimo's power? Loma was blocking and deflecting most of the punches but wasn't throwing anything in return! It was inactivity that made Loma lose those rounds, not Lopez's skills
It should be clear for everyone that Loma wasn't mentally focused for this fight. This reminded me of Wlad vs Fury... dude was mentally out of there, we learned later on that Klitschko was distracted because of his crazy wife with post partum depression, with his marriage breaking apart, he didn't truly care about winning the fight until it was too late
Probably something similar happened to Loma here, he might be dealing with personal problems, probably his wife is a ***** too, or unfaithful, or who knows... women have been the downfall of men since ever..I don't know, but this isn't the Loma we all know, this was a mentally defeated man, who had already lost the fight before stepping into the ring. Yeah, he tried to react in the later rounds (just like Wlad vs Fury) but by then, it was too late
A focused, hungry Loma beats Lopez any day of the week and twice on sunday
You can give him rd5. Not “impossible” for Lopez though. Why, you thought it was impossible for Lomachenko to take that rd?
no i think it's great to see people going into detail on rounds, when i get around to watching it closely ill give a proper opinion on it, too much crap going on at the mo!
He did try to win but he didn't think he would have to fight for it, when he realized his silly moves and his jibby jabby jabs didn't work he knew he had to start fighting but the problem was he knew he would open himself up for counter shots. Hence why he lost the 12th round..he just couldn't take anymore punishment, Like robert garcia said; he needs to start training properly and not jiggle fkn balls and hold his breath under water.
But by saying that, if loma turned it up from round one, if he started exchanging he would of be gone before round 6..he paced himself for a reason, he felt lopez's power.
He’d never start from rd 1. Never smart for a pressure fighter to risk getting caught cold. He was trying to get back at Lopez in rd 3 after he was probably hurt to the body with a left hook, and Lopez responded very well. It looked to me like Lomachenko was ready to get started after that rd, I think his confidence in his father cost him. He was scared of Lopez;s power for Lomachenko and kept him on a short leash. Sometimes you gotta know when not to listen to your corner. Lomachenko would come out and start pulling back, he was clearly trying to make Lopez reach for him, he wasn’t even attempting to pressure, and Lopez wasn’t keeping him from it, this was literally their plan.
And Lomachenko is obviously not a great outfighter.
Yeah i read that loma started late as he thought he was nicking rounds and was a live dog in the fight as your explanation for him seeming to start to pressure too late in the fight
so do u think he won round 5?

Where did you get that from?
If you want to know what I was saying. Read. The discussion was on why Lomachenko “started” late.

I mean we acting like we didn't see the 12th round? Lopez got a second wind and Loma was being Loma and he still got walloped. If he had started early I suspect the same would have happened. He knew that which is why he waited as late as he did. Stop the excuses.
So are u saying that because teo didn't land one clear punch in round 5 that it is impossible for him to have won round 5?

Just did a rewatch of round 5. I don’t think Lopez landed 1 single punch. Slow it down, put it upside down if you want, if you can find one clear, flush punch by Lopez in this round, point it out to me.
Lomachenko landed all the clean and flush punches of that round (rd5) and it compells me to assume he felt comfortable picking at Lopez without having to take any chances. But unless you are Mayweather, you don’t get credit for picking a guy off with jabs. anyway. That’s why I think Lomachenko took so long to start his assault, he was comfortable and felt he was still outpointing Lopez, being the only one landing clean. Ofcourse, I haven’t rewatched the entire thing. I just went to rd 5 and that’s what I noticed. Personally I don’t care enough. I have little sympathy for guys that fight like Loma was in the first half. He still has bad habits from the amateur game .
Fight in 1080p 60fps. Rd5 time stamped.
haha...i hear you...my point was why are these guys making excuses and acting like something outside of the ring was caused loma to lose? loma himself thought he won....
like teos cousin said in the espn series...teo wasnt goin in there afraid like most do at the "legend" of loma
What was funny to me was Loma claimed he won but didn’t ask for a rematch.
Deep down he knows.
I think I can fck Halle Berry.

Lopez wasn’t doing anything particularly complex and Loma still couldn’t find any answer for 7 whole rounds. Definitely not what you expect from a p4p number 1
sad post...let the excuse making fly
Yeah. Now it’s Loma beat himself.
Maybe if he didn’t beat himself so much he’d have had enough energy to fight Lopez rounds 1-6.
Loma fought like a guy who was not expecting Lopez to box, was not expecting the speed and power that Lopez had and decided not to risk being stopped while Lopez was fresh. Lopez even proved he had power in the last round. Loma was actually smart for not going at Lopez early because he risked being KO'd and went the distance and the latter is a much better ending for Loma than the former. Being stopped early would have been his complete demise. Instead, he came back hard and made a fight out of it and can take solace in that.
agreed...if loma opened up earlier teo would have and loma would have been in harms way alot more...im not saying he would have gotten ko'd for sure but he would have taken punches and his face would have shown it

He was looking to attack Lopez from an angle to avoid his power all together. He was hoping Lopez’s feet would slow or get lazy so he can start angling, it didn’t happen. He had to start fighting on the line, which is why we kept seeing headbutts. He would allow Teofimo to walk him down by fighting off the back foot; Which was not his natural style.
In addition, he didn't throw as many combination punches either; Which is one of Loma's trademarks. Every now and then he would land a clean punch or two but other than that, that was it.
He needed to become more active with his punch output and workrate but was too afraid of doing so.
Spot on. Judges really aren’t paying attention to punches landed. Can’t give you green right now.

Nowadays, Judges are judging bouts on a boxer's body language. If a fighter appears that he isn't hungry enough or doesn't want to win the fight; Then chances are the judges aren't going to award him the fight.
Lopez appeared like he was the much hungrier of the two fighter. Both his workrate and punch output were a lot higher than Lomachenko's.
Vasiliy was constantly fighting in spurts and off the back foot for most of the bout without throwing or landing enough clean punches.
