Lomachenko should retire. All the "ducking" and fights not happening for years at 126 and 130 were all supposed to be prelude, building up to, spectacular wins at 135 and 140. And before he even gets a chance at the first one, he forfeits the first six rounds of a fight vs Adrien Broner and loses a UD.
He should just retire. I was a huge fan but I have to face reality, Ukrainians, Khazaks, and even in some cases Philipinos, depending on the financial clout of the opponent, simply do not sell enough tickets or pay-per-views to be successful at the very top level of the sport.
I mean, that was the reason he beat Walters, right?
No, the reason he beat Walters is Walters didn't even try....that was the fight where I started doubting loma's credibility...something wasn't right there. How many fights since that pay day did Walters have? I think NONE..correct me if I'm wrong.
The layoff certainly could have played a role but plenty of fighters during this Covid-19 time will be facing long layoffs. Spence will be on a 15 month lay off himself when he steps in to fight Garcia.
Lopez had a 10 month layoff himself. Not quite 14 months but that's just what it is for a lot of fighters unfortunately.
Either way, Lomachenko has nothing to be ashamed from this loss. Fought well late and showed his true championship character.
P4P context gives me the right! And I’m glad it annoys you. ;). Lopez got a long way to go to be at Canelo’s level
Why would you be glad if I was annoyed? Please articulate.
It was a Draw. Nobody won. Trella is as good as Weisfeld. Did Canelo fight like Loma and did GGg fight like Lopez? Lol. You guys gotta know the scoring criteria. Jabs vs Power punches is not the same as Loma basically doing nothing for the first half! Learn your boxing! Dont hate on Canelo just because ;)
Nobody was talking about canelo here until you rode in on his cawk.
What a great win by Lopez. The body shots were the key and the rounds Lopez lost he abandon the body work when Lomo was closing in. I mean it’s easier said than done but Lopez was stopping Lomo in his tracks
It was also strategy. Most people assume that when you fight an expert boxer you should not box them. Problem is, what is an expert boxer preparing for? He is preparing for a puncher, or a swarmer to come to him so he can pick his spots.
This kid was trained to step around when Loma angled in for a shot, he was trained to use that jab to set up a body punch, and he did not let Loma get set... He had an uppercut waiting if Loma tried to set down on his shots... even when Loma hit him seldom was he set so the punches did maximum damage...
the kid boxed Loma. Where have we seen this before? De La Hoya's and Madanna's jab was effective against Floyd. Sometimes even though it is counter intuitive, it is beneficial to box a boxer.
True. Good points solid post as usual.
Something definitely was off because he gave away the 1st 6 rounds.
I don’t think he realized how fast Teo would be and maybe because of the layoff it took him longer to get going.

Lol. GGG just probing jabs. Not even Loma or Lopez do that. Canelo is the complete fighter and the judges saw it!
Barely scraped by, if anything. Waited him out for a total of 3 years to do it too.
stop with these goddamn excuses. It was a layoff for Teo too. I knew you mfers would do this. I said before the fight, no excuses for either guy. You lomachenko fans, who were so sure Teo was gonna get his career ended tonight, are making making excuses. stop it!! your boy lost
Tim was on the money when he said Loma body is a juicy target
Torso too big for his size + short arms that are held very high
He wears his trunks too low...they’re below his bellybutton. It’s a detriment, because most referees tend to let shots on the belt line go because of where most fighters wear their trunks, and those might be straying low by comparison.
I really think Loma was afraid of Lopez. All that bs he talked about teaching him a lesson and hurting him, he was just trying ot hype himself up. He encountered a guy that wasn't afraid of him and threw punches back. He wasn't used to being stalked by a bigger guy that was just as fast as him and hit harder. He was afraid. His dumbazz fanbase are eating crow
It was a gameplan, not momentary fear. you're not afraid of someone and then all of a sudden stalk them. It was just an incorrectly timed gameplan. He respected Lopez but wanted some steam to come off his shots. He became perhaps too aggressive in the championship rounds.
TS: yeah I think the layoff had something to do with it, but it's not the main issue. I really think it was a poorly timed gameplan that otherwise worked when the other part of it was implemented. I think the layoff had an effect on the gameplan but Loma is a pro, he should know every round counts.
Nah. Loma's always been a slow starter.
To me, it looked like Loma waited for Lopez to tire himself out or frustrate himself into making mistakes. Which didn't happen until round 7. Which is where Loma turned it up.
Where Loma made a mistake - and Lopez's power may have been to blame - is that when Lopez was flat out tired in Round 11, Loma should and could have gotten him out of there.
Great analysis i thought he had lopez in that 11th lopez looked exhausted and he didn't step on the gas. Loma has been a slow started but not that slow. I mean he landed what 2 5 3 punches and threw like 10 punches in most of the first 6 rounds? It was a bad plan. They shoulda started picking it up by the 4th at the most.
I will never understand what he was doing rounds 1-6.
Those body shots must’ve really took something from him.
Idk wtf happened those first 6 rounds. I know there's being patient and having the first 2 rounds to study but he barely threW ANYTHING. HORRIBLE gameplan and also like you said I think the gameplan with teo being faster than he thought bothered took him a little longer to get off. Now those scorecards 119 and 117 were outrageous tho and so was wards 95-95 at one point. I had lopez 116-112 maybe 115-113. Loma shoulda started 2 or 3 rounds earlier. Nothing but props to Lopez tho. Loma really disappointed me with his lack of doing ANYTHING .
and Loma's plan was to not throw punches for 6 rounds. He was seriously in there just to survive. and he was hurt bad in the 12th
I’m not sure why he waited so long, but someone who is just in there to survive, doesn’t start trying to walk down the bigger man.
No excuses, if he was worried about the 14 month layoff he should’ve taken a tuneup fight, which if I was his manager would be exactly what I would of prescribed.
