Daniel Dubois vs. Joe Joyce is a PPV event in the UK? Really?

Once upon a time pay-per view events were for so-called "super fights", but a couple of heavyweight prospects are headlining a PPV card? wtf? Eddie Hearn is saying that a potential fight between Joshua Buatsi and Anthony Yarde would be a "massive box office fight" at the O2 arena in London. I get that PPV is a bit cheaper over there, but really?? I'd be interested to hear from fight fans in the UK. Why are these fights on PPV? it seems that as long as it is somewhat of a compelling match up, then the broadcasters over there throw it on PPV. Grandpa Bob is right to criticize British broadcasters and promoters for their greed I think. What do others think?

1) In case you haven't heard this fight is not going to be on PPV 2) Local/domestic fighters are often on PPV in their home countries while being free/cable TV elsewhere. Here David Lemieux and Lucien Bute fights were always on PPV while being on HBO/Showtime in the US.

The winner will really announce themselves on the world stage as a top heavyweight. The loser, if he has a good showing can still do some things, or may have to take a number of steps back. A loss would be very bad for Joyce I think. It’s still relatively early in his pro career but he’s already mid 30s. It would be hard to see how he would get up to the world scene if he loses to Daniel Dubois. I’d say Joyce is almost fighting for his career in a way, in terms of moving on to the real world stage. Dubois is obviously young enough to rebuild but I guess the manner of defeat could affect him badly, plus the shine will be gone as him being touted as the next big thing. There’s a lot on the line for both I think. I guess that’s why it’s an intriguing and anticipated fight. Respect to both guys for taking it because plenty of fighters would’ve just gone separate routes.

Its not on PPV but even if it was for the equivalent of like $25 its a pretty good fight. Remember its geared towards the UK audience so how those fighters are perceived internationally is irrelevant, its a domestic thing. Boxing PPVs are so rare in America because for one they cost a ****ing fortune and secondly boxing isnt really a mainstream sport there anymore like it is in the UK.
