When PBC made its debut in the Spring of 2015, their top names were Deontay Wilder, Adrien Broner, Leo Santa-Cruz, Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia, the Charlo twins and Shawn Porter.
Spence Jr. and Davis were still making a name for themselves. Mikey Garcia and Manny Pacquiao had yet to join the roster.
I think their plan was to make them all be PPV stars by getting their names out on network TV. All these guys headlined shows on Fox, NBC, CBS, ESPN, Sp!ke, Bounce TV and Showtime from 2015 thru 2019. As the year comes to a close that will have happened.
-Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury (2018; 2020) and Luis Ortiz (2019). A possible 3rd match with Fury may be scheduled before the year is up as well.
Adrien Broner vs Manny Pacquiao (2019)
-Errol Spence Jr vs Mikey Garcia (2019), Shawn Porter (2019) and Danny Garcia (2020)
Keith Thurman vs Manny Pacquiao (2019)
Jermell Charlo vs Jeison Rosario (2020)
Jermall Charlo vs Sergiy Derevyanchenko (2020)
Gervonta Davis vs Leo Santa-Cruz (2020)
2018 - One PPV
2019 - Five PPVs
2020 - Four PPVs
Only David Benavidez has yet the headline his own show yet, which I'm sure will take place in 2021 vs Caleb Plant. He's in the next group of PBC'ers with the mentioned Caleb Plant and other young champs.
Good for them I guess? Fighters do get extra Back End Money regardless of how good or bad the PPV does ESPECIALLY when you don't have a promoter and you self promote so I totally get why fighters prefer being PPV because those Backend Checks can comeback HUGE. However, not all fights are PPV Worthy. Tonight Card is stacks so that is OK, but still don't think Tank Davis vs Leo Santa Cruz is PPV Worthy
If fighters Want PPV then they need to step up and fight Top Competition ONLY for PPV
Boxing B^tch about PPV's but UFC does a PPV Monthly and even UFC Fans don't B^tch as much as Boxing Fans do about PPV's. MMA have the far better fans and it is not even close
tank/lsc isnt really ppv worthy..especially in a traditional sense.....but you can see what theyre trying to do
tank has been on a floyd ppv...hes also done some cards hes headlined where hes sold out..in baltimore and in atl......tank has a buzz and theyre trying to build on it...if tank handles biz and looks good it will be good for him...theyre setting the stage for him down the line
loma is 32 and is one of the top 3 stars in top rank/espn....and still hasnt done one
if loma beats teo and tank wins it could set the stage.....being ppv is really the only way youre gonna get tank/loma together

Half those guys were B-sides who wouldn't have otherwise headlined a pay per view. Spence doing 300k buys hardly makes him a star. The Charlos don't belong on PPV and will probably be back on regular TV after this event flops.

I'm not sure what role PPV played in their initial vision but their plan was always to become something like the UFC and that plan has failed to materialized.
It's all about GREED.
"The reality is pay-per-view is a tool to help fights happen that wouldn't otherwise happen..," according to Showtime Stephen Espinoza.

No it's about generating the money needed to give us the best fights possible

Benavidez was on a ppv undercard fighting Dirrell

Six years later...
Wilder is a hypejob
Broner is a gatekeeper
Thurman, Porter, and Spence are contenders and belt holders
Mikey isnt with PBC anymore and hes irrelevant
LSC has a huge fight coming up
Danny Garcia is a gatekeeper
Man PBC is #LIT !!!
what about them.....even loma who is a p4p star and one of top ranks main attractions has yet to do a ppv...russell hasnt done anything or fought enough to be considered ppv worthy
hurd? i mean...do you expect literally ever pbc fighter to have been on ppv?
Jermell vs hurd could be big again if they move to 160 and collect belts.
Jermall hinted at moving up for Benividez. So he may have 2 fights max left at 160 after tonight.
Gennady will vacate that ibf if a real mandatory arrives.
Andrade is talking about 168 for saunders wbo belt.
The divisons are about to turn over. 154 dudes to 160. 160 dudes to 168
What about GRJ & Hurd.
