RSL and RSR were able to move up to middleweight and take on champs in wars.
I can`t imagine Spence fighting GGG or Canelo. They both give him a terrible beating in one sided fight.
Pacquiao is the best fighter at 147, but he is small man and he is already fighting 3 divisions above his natural division.
There is no such monster as prime Hearns, RSL, RSR at 147 nowadays.
You can add the luxury of only fighting once or twice a year to that list. At that rate you could have only 10-20 fights in a decade. Sugar Ray Robinson had over 100 fights in that time.
Exactly.... Good point
Give SRR access to modern day training and better coaches. How better would he be.
He from a different era u have to judge accordingly........

were all those opponents credible?
put SRR in today's era. how many of those opponents would be called bums?
I guess it depends on how you define credible. I wasn't around to give each fighter the eye test but let's assume that out of 100 opponents there were:
20 so-called bums
20 journeymen
20 fringe contenders
20 contenders/good fighters
10 champions/great fighters
10 HOF fighters
Even if you knock everyone down a level, that still leaves a careers' worth of good opponents and they fought way more often, with smaller gloves.
Last but not least, Sugar Ray Robinson's height and reach is on par with today's top welterweights and he defeated plenty of fellow hall of famers.

It is tough to compare different eras due to different politics, promoters, environments and most importantly revenue.
Their is too much money in sports these days. A fighter can make millions fighting a no hoper. Why risk it?
The new crop of welterweights can certainly be compared to the old legends but they just don't compare favorably. No shame in that though because the Sugars were absolutely legendary. Very difficult to shine as hard as they did. Some day a fighter will emerge and be on the same plateau or perhaps even greater but that day is not today.
Tons lack common sense. Boxing goes by weight classes. Height means nothing. The older eras were same day weigh in. Fighters barely gained weight before getting in the ring. Nowadays fighters weigh in a day before and rehydrate. Tons gain 10-20lbs. before they get in the ring. Tons even used IV fluids to rehydrate.
Yup. People think they're ****ing height classes. Blows my mind. They always go silent when I point out that GGG and Mike Tyson are the same height.
Old school welterweights are around the in ring size of 135lbers today. Welterweights today are around the in ring size of old school middleweights. The guys today are bigger weight wise during fights. Stop this nonsense of acting like Hearns and Leonard would be big welterweights by today's non same day weigh in standards because it is completely false.
I had that same debate with someone on here months ago who was trying to tell me that Hearns at 147 was significantly bigger than Errol Spence. Tommy weighed in at 147 before going to the damn ring. Meanwhile Spence was a WW in the olympics which is a 152 weight limit.
SRR lost 19 times im sure he can lose again
Let's add some context:
Sugar Ray Robinson made his debut in 1940 and lost once during the 40's (he finished the decade 100-1) and five times in the 50's (he was 142-6 as the 60's began). The rest of his losses came in the 60's when he was an old man (he retired in 1965)
In other words, the Sugar Ray Robinson of the 40's was undefeated at welterweight and it took a tremendous effort from an all-time great middleweight in Jake LaMotta to put a single loss on his record in 10 years.
Using 'Sugar' in the middle triggers me. Confucius once said, "call things by their proper name." :lol1:
It is irritating when people in general shorten or cannot write peoples name's correctly.
Well duh,
Those are only the 2 greatest 147lbs. who ever lived.
And bullshxt that Pac's the best at 147.
Arum kept him away from Crawford at 140 4 years ago, so you know he doesn't want it now.
He also hasn't fought Spence for a reason.
Manny isn't even a slam dunk over Porter or Garcia at this point.

Well no **** sherlock.
ATGs are ATGs for a reason and 147 is nothing special since Floyd left. Water is wet, sky is blue.
Do you want to enjoy excellent fighters Spence and Crawford or wine that they aren't as good as two all time great boxers, one who is long dead and the other in his 60s.
SRR lost his middleweight title to a welterweight. SRL lost every round to Terry Norris when he was 35 years old. Prime
SRL lost to a lightweight champ moving up to welterweight named Roberto Duran. Neither Ray Robinson nor Leonard were perfect and they could be defeated as Robinson was 19 times. Watch old films of Leonard and Robinson if you are so dissatisfied with today's good welterweights. There is lots of film of their fights. Why do you say Pacquiao is now the best fighter at 147??? He is still good but he is very old and would be the underdog by the oddsmakers if he fought either Spence or Crawford because they would likely beat Pacquiao.
Prime was not 35 if you go back 30 years.....Ali was done at 35 , Holmes was done , hagler was well done ,Pryor etc these fighters boxed 2 times a year at least and had to fight 15 rounders not 12 rounders, they also never had the route of getting 3rd or 4th championship belt...it was just 2 belts and they also consistently boxed higher consistent and better fighters.
The environment was a lot harder for those fighters.....E.G Amir Khan , John molina , broner , joseto lopez , these fighter would never have have got the amount of chances at the top level in the 80 or earlier because they kept losing before.
I like you bolio but don’t talk out your ass son.
There are no fighters today except a lomachenko , gonzalez or maywether , pacquaio who could have made a dent and carried over to that era....SRR,SRL , Duran are different animals.
Porter took spence life and death and he was pacquaios sparring partner in the past.

Duran is ATG level fighter, so I don`t know how does that loss hurd Leonard`s legacy. After that, he beat Duran twice.
Pacquiao is like 8 division champ, how is he not the best fighter at 147? he has the biggest legacy, far better than Spence and Crawford, not even compared.
You're aware Sugar Ray Leonard didn't use HGH or steroids like previous Welterweights have today so 35 back than was old Today you Have Mr IV Flush abusing HGH and steroids to fight past 35 than you have the other Welterweight Champ who's 40 and he still can't explain why his head size doubled in adulthood . Use your critical thinking skills for a change
