At least when it comes to pricing themselves. I know they fought their asses off to get to the big paychecks when we talk about the likes of a Clenelo or maybe Crawford (not really though), but do they even take into consideration the WORLDWIDE economy? Do they think the pandemic ignores them and they should be paid just as if everything was peachy and there wasn't what, 8.4% of Americans out of work? (I got that from the googs). You think people got spare cash lying around to pay for an expensive PPV when most were living pay check to paycheck barely able to afford a PPV when they had a job?
I don't know, sometimes I think there needs to be some reconsideration as to understanding what you are worth but putting that in relation to current economic times. If Canelo made 35 million a fight and now he has to settle for, oh I don't know, 10-15 million? That is still probably more than ANY other fighter can get, so why argue it? Man, when you making millions, it's never enough. It's like, no 10 million isn't enough for me to enjoy my life, I NEED to have 35+ million per fight. Crazy how crappy we become when we get more money in our pockets.
I really makes me think about him resigning to Arum in the first place when that happened. Money over legacy was my first thought.
Oh definitely picked money over legacy imo
They should really be using this time as a opportunity.
Fight and get all the exposure, may even build your fan-base.
Somebody like Josh Kelly is not really on the level, where he can just not fight 'He is still abit of a no mark' etc
I guess I can say I’m a Bud fan but when I heard he wasn’t going to be fighting because he won’t be taking a pay cut , well I think he’s a douchebag of a man
Mofo is rich as fugh and can’t take a pay cut with the bullchit going on
Respect as a boxer but that makes him a pos of a man imo
I really makes me think about him resigning to Arum in the first place when that happened. Money over legacy was my first thought.
If there were no fans they would be fighting for free.
always lol when people act like fans cant have opinions beause they arent "in the ring". I didnt make them go fight. Lopez could go be an accountant if he wants. He chosed to prize fight and he last rejected a $1.2 million purse. Id say hes being compensated quite well and yes there is risk taking involved in getting that level of compensation. These guys are prima donnas, the club level and sparring partner guys are taking more damage for peanuts in comparison. To say the people that pay them, us the fans, have no right to an opinion is absurd.
You know how many people are out of work now and he is in the position to turn down $1.2 million contracts.
Good point with the fans, fans don’t have to be fighters. Right on.
In an ideal world fans would all train like a fighter at least once. It would make for more honest opinions.
It would lead to higher expectations for those fighters that claim to be great and have compassion/ empathy for the warriors putting their life on the line.
Like I tell noobies that can barely hit a heavy bag non stop for 2 minutes. The heavy bag don’t hit back, and starting out you gotta go 3 rds.
Few of us have what it takes. I didn’t which is why I gotta stand up for our warriors that could make it and are making it happen.
I don’t like the entitlement of this new generation. All the talking and hating other fighters to get views and followers.
To Lopez’s credit though we ain’t discussing him, he signed.
That’s why fucc Haney, Garcia, Davis and all these fighters calling out other fighters but never signing contracts.
That’s what I mean by as a former fighter you know when somebodies challenge is full of chit.
Thanks for engaging! You definitely right, everybody who watches a fight should be able to speak on a fight, I’m
Just always gonna challenge integrity.
The OP is an idiot. Lol
He thinks Canelo is asking for $35mil a fight during the pandemic.
No. I said "IF" he is asking for that much as in a theoretical theory. I just threw out BS numbers and used Clenelo because he was hot in the news recently. My general OP is about the landscape of boxing and what fighters think they're worth vs what they can be paid in reality right now. That's all this was about.
Oxygen mask first, fucc everybody else.
People will always talk, this forum gossips like women at the market.
At the end of the day, know your worth, fucc the haters and definitely Fucc sensitivity. Leave that Nonsense for the liberals and progressives that have no fuccing clue what those words mean.
Just like most of this board has no clue what it means to step in the ring.
Respect the fighters and their decisions. Also only listen to what Teofimo Lopez says about Teofimo Lopez for example, fucc anybody else’s thoughts that ain’t Lopez.
If there were no fans they would be fighting for free.

I can understand fighters not wanting to take fights for less money but if the pandemic persists and the economy stays rough or worsens I think eventually some of these guys will have to reconsider. They might realize it's better to take what they CAN get instead of what they would LIKE to get
I hope he gets out of his dazn contract.
That app is trash
The app sucks balls, I dont know why they cant make the buttons work like every other app. Youtube, netflix they all work the same, I dont even have to think about it, its intuitive on my nvidia shield.
DAZN, i try to pause or back out of a video and it fuking like closes out everything or fuks up, its such a piece of chit, just use standardized buttons like everyone else.
True. But it’s better to remind fans that Canelo acknowledged a 30% cut. If you don’t remind fans of this they are confused in believing that the lawsuit is talking about full compensation which it isn’t. Canelo’s team would ideally just want out of the contract or revision. They know they can’t get the money they’re asking for because the fights haven’t even happened. It’s just a way to get alternative settlements.
From what I read so far I still think canelo is being reasonable, his complaint in his lawsuit isnt that the offers are too low, its that DAZN and Goldenboy have flat out refused to even give him any offers on paper in writing the entire year.
Atleast give him a lower offer and then in his court to turn it down, he is saying that they verbally promise this or that fight coming soon and just delay delay and now its September and no contract has reached his desk.
They think they should get paid the exact same as before the pandemic. People all over the place getting laid off and the behavior of especially the guys at the top is pretty disgusting. I feel bad for the working class fighters though, the undercard guys because they arent getting any fights when the top guys refuse to hold events because they dont want to take "only" a few million instead of ten plus million.
If Canelo gets out of the contract, that hurts DAZN not only because they won't be able to stream his content but also because others would think twice before doing business with them. Canelo could probably make similar or more money on PPV which he currently can't because of DAZN.

Why are you fueling or misguiding posters in the thread? Lol
Several posters in this thread didn’t even correct the OP. Canelo hasn’t asked for $35mil during the pandemic. He agreed to a 30% cut. DAZN wanted 50%.
My point is. He doesnt have to agree to anything outside of his contract.
Pandemic or not
Oxygen mask first, fucc everybody else.

Boxers literally put their lives on the line so I can respect if they choose to sit out rather than take a pay cut. It’s not like say an actor taking less because theaters aren’t open. However I can’t stand the ones who are too stupid to understand why they can’t get paid the same like when Crawford said he’d need a bigger guarantee because he couldn’t collect off the gate.
I can see your overall point, but I wonder if those big purses are ever coming back. There's probably going to be a global depression, the economic good times are over for a while. The question is for how long, and can a fighter really afford to lose a chunk of his prime. Probably not.
At least when it comes to pricing themselves. I know they fought their asses off to get to the big paychecks when we talk about the likes of a Clenelo or maybe Crawford (not really though), but do they even take into consideration the WORLDWIDE economy? Pay what the contract says.
If i sign for 35 million per fight. Pay me 35 million per fight. Pandemic or not.
If its a pandemic then boxing shouldnt be going on anyway. But if you want me in the ring. Pay me what i signed for. Its simple
I wish my job would say we can't pay you, 19 dollars a hour anymore. Now we gotta pay you 9 dollars because of the pandemic.
No deal
Just overall from my general expertise dealing in finance and what I have learned over the years you can tell a lot from the boxers taking fights at the moment.
Those that are taking fights right now when purses are at a huge low compared to recent years likely overstepped on their financial obligations. To simplify it, it means the ones that are taking fights need to money to support their lifestyle. And the ones not taking fights likely have their possessions fully owned and a good amount of the rest of their money still fairly liquid so they draw from without worry.
some of these guys have already spent future money
This is very true for a lot of boxers and athletes overall.
For boxers it is probably extra risky because they likely have to take a riskier fight for them to genenerate enough to pay them the guarantee and a loss pretty much guarantees a future pay cut. So they are in a tough spot.
I understand why they are reluctant and I can honestly say I would probably sit out until at least the election is over to see if this all politically driven.
They are just waiting for their fair market value to go back up which I can't frown upon as an individual working in finance.
