Sasha just sealed a WBC title fight against Fury the Great with what in my opinion is, both a FOTY and KOOTY candidate.
Two skilled, educated, experienced, world class boxers.....one, a slickster, the HW Locche, the other, possibly the best HW to come out of Russia, a phenom.....who wins this 4D chess match?
If we were talking about a prime Povetkin you may have a point
Against Whyte he was SO slow footed, him and Whyte were a pair of immobile plodders who both laboured around the ring like they were wearing lead boots.
Listen to me, if Povetkin fights Fury in 18 months aged 43 or whatever he will get EFFED UP. And I mean BAD.
it won't be no UD, it will be a hospital visit. He has nothing for Fury, you can't be a slow immobile midget with an eggy chin and middle aged man stamina and get in the ring with a guy like Fury. Just no.
A lot of exaggeration here, he wasn't light footed but he wasn't clumsily plodding around. Povetkin is a fundamentally sound high IQ fighter with loads of experience. Yes he is smaller and slower, that doesn't mean he is defenseless nor harmless though.
I agree Fury should box circles around him but Fury should box circles around anyone in history, that's not saying much. As a Fury fan, I want him to fight the best out there until he decides to hang em up. Povetkin is one of those top 10 guys and I'd look forward to that fight more than the AJ one and the Wilder rematch, personally. Styles make fights and there is a long list of fighters I find more entertaining and exciting than AJ.
You have guys like Ruiz, Wilder, Povetkin, Parker, Whyte, Hunter, Helenius, Hrgovic, Ortiz, Kownacki, Martin, Ajagba, DDD, Joyce, Kabayel, Wallin, Pulev, Usyk...anything can happen there.
Agreed. The division is hot as it's ever been.....and Fury is at the top, treading water amidst sharks.
Fury is head and shoulders above the rest but under him it's a shark infested water in which anyone can die or rise.

Fury by UD, but I'd give Povetkin a serious chance in this fight simply because Fury in the past struggled against lesser men who were smaller. Povetkin can fight small and if Fury makes the mistake of letting Povetkin fight on the inside he could hurt Fury.
I got Fury, Povetkin will have a shot, but I see Fury winning by decision.
Povetkin will have to beat Whyte again, plus wait for AJ Fury fight, so it might never even happen.
I agree here. I see only Fury as elite fighter right now.
But that is why division is competitive under championship level.

Povetkin is elite? Doesn't take much to impress you, does it?!
He was losing every round till he landed the knock out, that's HW boxing it happens. But to be losing every round and getting dropped against someone like Whyte tells you he's no where near decent let alone elite.
I don't want to get into why I think Whyte is a c level fighter but after watching him against Wach I knew he would lose the fight against Povetkin. Check my posts before the fight, I knew he would lose.
And to say that the HW division is "deep and hot" tells me that you either just started to watch boxing or you're very young and don't remember when great or even decent fighters were in the HW division.
I am a big Tyson Fury fan and I think for a guy his height he moves very very good. But let's talk about some of the fighters right now. Let's start with Joshua, a top HW guy who hasn't impressed in any of his fights. He went life and death against a 40+ year old klitschko, even there he got knocked down. Joshua had trouble in nearly every fight, a big muscular guy who has no real skills.
In his fight against Ruiz he quit like a girl, he got whooped big time. In the rematch we know that Ruiz didn't really care about the fight, he had a taste of big money so he didn't give a sh**..he was eating pizza the night before the rematch. Joshua knew the condition of Ruiz, he was running circles around him all night. If he was anything his fans think he is, he should of knocked out Ruiz, especially after Ruiz made him look like the B- level fighter he really is.
Then we have the other HW "top dog" Deontay Wilder, a guy who has NOTHING except his right hand. He has no jab, the guy has no fkn movement, the guy has zero foot work..he knocked a few bums out and boxing fans like you made him into a legend, some even mentioned his name with Muhammad Ali, because he beat people like 50 year old Ortiz and that Breazeale bum or w.e his name is :lol1:
That my friend is the division you're thinking so highly of, but the truth is the division is in a pathetic state. Back in the days fighters like the Povetkins,Whytes,Wilders and Joshuas were considered as Journeyman. Respect to Fury but I wish he fought in a different era, when the HW had decent fighters..right now with the rubbish what is floating in the division he's not really getting tested.

Hearns said Povetkin has no legal right to a fight with Fury. It's not a done deal. There is a rematch clause so Whyte will fight Povetkin again before any fight with Fury.
Povetkin beats him again.
Povetkin won't see the final bell.
I give him 5-6 rounds before Fury overwhelms and stops him.
Sasha weathers the storm, drags Fury to deep, dark waters, and forces a controversial decision.
What is sad about it?
Povetkin is a gold medalist and elite fighter.
The division is deep and hot right now. Many names in the top 20, and prospects to be excited about. The #1 guy in the division is possibly the GOAT.
How can anyone complain about HW right now? Just crazy.

Twas a fantastic uppercut and trap. One of the best in years I've seen.
Whyte was nothing special, but that doesn't take away from how amazing that KO was. Povetkin is a top 5 HW no matter how a fight with Fury ends.

I've got Fury by TKO/corner stoppage. Pov's good and tough, but he's taken enough blows by now; a fit Fury would overwhelm him unless he got Cunnighamed alluva sudden. :D
Fury would beat him with one arm tied behind his back, povetkin beat the fkn bum whyte...big fkn deal...after i watched his fight against wach i realized how much of a bum whyte really is...slow..no head movement..no foot work..so thinking that povetkin did something special there makes you look dumb
