This household have bought every big fight on PPV ever since I can remember.
And we all know when we buy a PPV, we're essentially only buying one fight
and that is the main card.
I don't watch UFC, but I heard Dana White saying that in boxing
promoters only focus on the main card and most of the money go
in the main card.
Do you think it's high time not to buy PPVs unless at least
3 main cards are being sold?
Things will never change if fans continue to support
PPVs with only the main card they're selling.
They should add at least one co-main event is all this thread is about.
It's not too much to ask doe.
Let's say 90% of the budget goes to the 2 greedy fighters in the main card,
why not spread all that financial weight and come up with at least 3 main cards
headed by less greedy fighters with promising future, on their way to stardom, etc.?
This thread probably doesn't belong in this forum
as most so-called hardcore fans don't buy PPVs.
I should find a forum for casuals.
What gets me is these constant cries of lowball offers
when these same folks can't even shell out $20.
You'd wonder where these investors are going to get their money back from?
Fans need to think first before buying a PPV.
Especially when they're only selling the main fight
headed by greedy fighters.
This sport can't go on like this in which promoters are
putting all their financial weight in just one fight, then
pepper it with undercard crap.
The money should be spread out and award the money
on more deserving fighters like promising talents.
In general I say not really but only because I've always been very good at finding out where I can download the fight for free. PPV is worth it if you want to know the results of the fight in real time but if you don't mind watching the fight a few hours late then I've always found it better to just download it for free and then watch it even if I already know the outcome. Ideally I avoid watching sports channels or getting on the internet right after a major fight that way I can enjoy my free stream without knowing the outcome ahead of time
Even a Flopping PPV still brings in money for the fighter
150K PPV Buys at $75 is still $11,250,000
So what we fans call as a "FLOP" still results into extra Money for the fighter. Extra money they don't get from fighting on a Network
Boxing is a business not a charity.
It takes lots of money to organize and promote a fight.
Not all of it is focused on the fighters alone.
Networks and promoters still have to make a profit
or break even.
$75 is too steep for a non May/Pac or similar and will only
attract more streamers, thus destined to be a massive flop.
Espinoza and Haymon knew PPVs are not profitable for everyone involved.
They're only doing it because it's easier to deal with greedy fighters
and managers with just the mention of doing it on PPV.
Haymon would rather do it on free tv if he had a choice.
Don't know where you get this assumption that PPVs always sell.
They flop most of the times.
As I've mentioned in one of my threads, and I'll just repeat it here:
Networks would rather not do it on PPV, why, because they don't get
a cent due to the high percentage going to the distributors.
(Which is why subcription-based models are superior because
there are no middlemen, and the income goes directly into the
platform's, whatever it is, pockets.)
Only reason why they're on PPV is because of greed.
Greed coming from fighters, managers, promoters.
And so the way to convince greedy fighters is to say,
"Well, you get your extra money if the fight sells."
That way no one is to blame but them, like giving fans
a boring fight or a mismatched one. You get the point.

So yes while I don't like all the PPV's, I also understand from a Business Standpoint it does help get these fighters Paid and yes a lot of fighters want their fights on PPV because it is MORE MONEY FOR THEM! Just look over at Loma vs Teofimo situation right now, if it was PPV the fight would be signed sealed and delivered. The fact that ESPN wants it on their Network and NOT PPV is playing a factor because it is asking for Teofimo to take Less than he and his team likely originally projected if it was going to be PPV

Because the best fighters actually compete so rarely these days (twice a year, tops) it feels like a more exclusive event when they do get in the ring. Way more exclusive than other sports. That's why promoters/TV networks can charge what they charge.
Going forward though, I'd love to see boxing made more accessible - I think that's probably the most important thing for the future of the sport. Getting more eyes watching the big fights & knowing more fighters. And I emphasize the big fights, because putting fights that suck in front of a bigger TV audience doesn't help anybody. I think some promoters get that more than others.
Thanks for the reply! Is it like the UFC app where you still have PPV events that you have to pay for on top of the subscription?
No, just a single level of subscription and you've got everything on offer. That might vary between countries though due to rights already agreed.
I don't think they've ever really 100% ruled out PPV. Would be a big shift from their model though.
I've been in many homes to watch PPV boxing fights contributing my share with my buddies taking their turns to host the occasion. It's party time, food and drinks abound. Parents even bring their kids with them. It's festive and noisy, nobody cared watching the undercards, and you could hardly hear what the ringside commentators say. Little kids are playing, adults have food in their mouths and engaged in conversations with their respective group.
So yes, people buy PPVs just to watch the main card. But I agree, things have to change and fans need to start buying PPVs only when it involves many established names. Promoters/networks need to start spreading the money out, instead of just putting all that financial weight in the main event.
Works like any subscription service. I'm assuming you've got an app with Sky where you can access on demand videos plus live content? It's exactly like that.
There are actually a few people in the UK who do now have DAZN. It's on a global beta program with early testers. Not sure if you can still sign up.
I'm testing it in Australia - two months' free access.

Boxing Fans...Stop Making It "JUST" About just YOU!
Lets be honest here, it is not enough of us Hardcore Boxing Fans to keep Boxing Afloat so Promoters and Powers that be in Boxing are not Depending on just the Support and Dollars of the "Hardcore Boxing Fans" because that is not enough
So when these PPV's are made the HOPE is that they will be able to get some Casuals on board to buy into WTF they're selling. With FOX, they will of course use NFL FOOTBALL (the Biggest Sport in the U.S. by far which gets a ton of views every Sunday on FOX) which has been a good formula for them to help Promoter their Boxing PPV's.

So we can also point the figure at these Exclusive Network and APP Deals, they're hurt the sport more than they're helping. For them it is about $$$, for use the Boxing fans it is about Match Ups. Promoters basically work for ESPN, DAZN, FOX and Showtime now lets be honest. Whatever they want that is what the Promoters will be pressured to provide or they could have their budget reduced or lost all together
I have to be honest, often times it doesn't seem like Boxing gives you your money's worth, the sport is so hit or miss with match ups and also too most boxing match ups are way too predictable!
So the Long Answer is YES Boxing PPV is worth it as long as the Main Event is good and the Card is stacked. This is something UFC has mastered while Boxing wants to be Cheap and give us weak undercards with a Main Event that might be good if we're lucky
I do think Jermell Charlo vs Resario and Jermall Charlo vs Derevyenchenko is PPV Worthy absolutely that Card is STACKED from Top to Bottom. Mario Barrios vs Cowboy Karl (Rumored to be moved to a different card though), Danny Roman vs Manny Rodriguez those are some damn good Undercard Fights with 2 Outstanding Double Main Events
I usually buy PPV for fights here in the UK. I’m happy to pay to watch the sport I love and the price isn’t crazy expensive over here.
To American posters what’s DAZN like? How does it work exactly? I know they were thinking of launching it here too

Not with the matchups and talks of matchups in the pipeline..
The fight camp was decent and I'll watch that but when it comes to the final day, there's no chance of paying for it..
I still live in the days where a PPV was an important big, big title fight...
It'll take a matchup an half to get me to part with cash...
Honestly I think I've only seen a couple fights on PPV that I thought were worth the money. Some of those early Tyson fights ended before we could even get the food ready so that was somewhat disappointing in a way, then you got Tyson getting DQ'd for biting Holyfields ear...that sucked...then the fight we thought should have gone down as one of the most epic fights ever (Pac Vs Floyd) went bust...most fights I end up regretting it if I bought it. I rarely even watch the undercard fights so that's not a factor for me. The fights I was most happy with was Tito vs DLH, Hopkins vs Tito, DLH vs Mosely, and Castillo Vs Corrales. All great fights worth the money! Oh yeah Tito vs Vargas shaped up to be pretty entertaining
Will you be buying Danny Williams latest fights on PPV? Only $5 lol

The writers and commenters on that website/forum are ****ing morons (and that's come from a user on Boxingscene :lol1:), it's such a poisonous environment over on that site.
