Two Puerto Rican Legends. Miguel Cotto won world titles at 4 weight classes. Felix Trinidad won world titles in 3 weight classes. Who had the better career? The better fighter? Better resume.
Trinidad had the better career by far and its not even debatable. He has victories over an undefeated Oscar De La Hoya, U.S. Olympic Gold medalist David Reid and over an undefeated Junior middleweight champion in Fernando Vargas.
Miguel Cotto's resume and career achievements don't even come close.
Would you guys say that Tito is the most iconic boxer to come Puerto Rico? Like did Tito have the biggest impact on Puerto Rican society or are the other famous Puerto Rican boxers who cane before him like Benitez and Gomez more influential?
No one disputes that Oscar ran for the final 3 rounds. He didn't run for the first 9 because he was busy out boxing Tito for the most part. Tito won some early rounds but not more than 3 if you're asking me for my opinion. I'm sure Oscar did respect Tito's power and he was careful to avoid it. People didnt like seeing Oscar run for the championship rounds (including myself) but I don't agree with automatically giving Tito the fight just because DLH ran for the final 3. Tito still didn't necessarily outbox DLH in 10-12 because he ran. I understand that my opinion means nothing and the history books will always have Tito as the winner. You can't judge a fight off of Compubox obviously but the Compubox numbers support Oscar's case. 263 of 648 for DLH and 166-462 for Tito. Oscar was pretty busy for someone that supposedly ran the whole fight
Add that "3" to the final "3" and you get 6 rounds for Tito. 3 + 3 = 6. 6 = Half of 12.
Sounds like a fight that could easily be deemed EVEN or a "draw."
There was NO "clinic."
There was however, a MF Marathon.
I saw some running the whole fight. Once round 8 hit he started gassing and conserved his energy by stopping punching so that he can make it to final hell. Trinidad was never able to catch up to him because he literally ran the championship rounds. Trinidad would have caught up to him if he kept up his strategy. Doesn’t matter if you don’t believe it because Oscar sure the hell did.

Tito was legendary. It was like a holiday everytime he fought.
Cotto is not that far behind, but when it comes to legacy, Tito is above him.
I love the fact that even though he tasted the canvas many times, he always got up to defeat his opponents.
Outside of the ring? Well thats another story...
I don't think its fair to crap on Cotto for the way he was...two different personalities and Cotto from day one always said he was in it to provide for his family and didn't give a hoot about parades/nationality etc.
Tito is a man of the people. Very humble, even to this day.
No other athelete will ever be loved in PR like him.
Sure of it :beerchug:
I agree. I watched that fight on PPV and DLH picked Tito apart. DLH listened to the bad advice of his corner and ran for rounds 10-12. Judges probably saw that as cowardice but I saw that as good defensive footwork that Tito couldn't catch up to. DLH won that fight and he did it fairly easily

I'm really certain Tito's white trunks was a bloody mess from Tito's own blood.
Trinidad at best won 3-4 rounds. Oscar put on a boxing CLINIC except for the last 3 rounds.
The first 9 rounds Oscar was boxing beautifully!!!
263 out if 648 Punches landed
166-462 Tito landed.
I usually don't use compubox but thats a blowout!
He won three or four in the first nine and won the last three and you say he was blown out? YouR view is as mine. It was a very close fight.
I gave it to trinidad. I want swayed bu blood on shorts. A bloody nose in a boxing fight is the norm.
Punches thrown is not a major factor in the fight. We both know how terrible compubox is. If you watch the fight oscsrs plan was clear. Stay away in the outside jump in to engage. Then throw a flurry and immediately Jump back out to the outside. (He would miss about half of his shot in these flurries). Repeat three times a round.
Watch it again and tell me that was not his pattern.
You call it an out boxing but in all
That a survival plan. Not a “clinic”
An out boxing is what floyd did to Canelo. I that fight floyd stayed in pocket the whole fight and hit while barely getting hit. That’s a real boxing clinic. I’m my opinion anyway.
Floyd embarrassed canelo. De la Hoya enbarassed him self.
Tito was given the victory against DildoHoya because he had to chase him around the ring for the last 15 minutes of the fight. Fight was closer than peasant care to admit.
Oscar wanted NO rematch either.
He had enough for eight rounds. He felt the power and stamina of Trinidad and said I’m done. He wanst ever going to go in the ring with trinidad.
The fact that Tito is probably an Uber driver right now who has to fart in his gas tank to make it home at night has to be factored in when using the term career.
Not when we are only talking about his boxing career ...
He did in the eyes of those who know shyt about boxing
Name a person that knows sh it about boxing that would say running for the last four rounds, including the championship rounds, barely throwing any punches and in some not throwing any at all, won the “fight of the millennium?
Watch the fight de la hoe ya threw three flurries a round or so. I would have called them combos but he would miss half of them. After his flurry he would jump back out to the outside. Meanwhile trinidad hunted his azz down the whole fight. Landing his shots.

It was embarrassingly easy how DLH turned Tito into a 1 punch at a time head hunter.

Trinidad was better. He beat de la Hoya, the best man at 147 than and unified WBC and IBF. Cotto never unified anything.
While I agree that Trinidad had a better career than Cotto and he was a superstar for his country he did NOT beat DLH! He should have been charged with theft by receiving for the result of that fight! I even like Tito a lot but he lost that fight and I don't care what the judges said
Cotto made big money, he took all the biggest fights available, lost the most of them, but he is a millionaire. Not sure about Trinidad.
Is not Trinidad the richest Puerto Rican boxer of all time?
