Wilder vs Fury 2 generated 850K buys but tell me again how Boxing is still bigger than MMA among the public?
UFC 251, Dana White’s much-anticipated first Fight Island card headlined by a welterweight title tilt between Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal, generated around 1.3 million pay-per-view buys on ESPN+, multiple sources tell The Athletic.
This is one shining example of a case where contact sport
can still flourish without the presence of live fans in the audience.
The obvious point is promoters and networks can still make big fights
even during these pandemic times.
Let's not kid ourselves that these quarantine times will be over soon.
AJ is currently the PPV draw in boxing and his numbers beat all ufc numbers
His biggest ever PPV number is about half a million buys short of what Conor/Khabib got in the same year.
Dont make me pull Floyd's numbers
Yes, he was a huge draw, hes also in his mid 40s and to all intents and purposes retired from serious boxing half a decade ago.
Decades?
Fury beat Klitschko not a 5 years ago and that opened up the division and also conversation again
I specified "in America", the last HW boxing match to do decent business on PPV in the US before Fury/Wilder was Ruiz/RJJ in 2003 for ****s sake.
it's an Olympic sport something UFC fighters will never have
Because A) it looks too brutal and B) multiple individual arts that constitute major parts of MMA are already in the olympics.
Annnnnnnnd kickboxing is being used to discredit boxing that's just hilarious
Curious what you mean by this?
Hall of Famers like Ray Leonard and mike tyson
while you have BJ ****ing Penn and Tito ortiz haha
You're comparing a sport that has been around in its current form for roughly a century, to a sport that didnt start to take shape until the 90s.
Canelo took a backseat for Masvidal last November, stop it.
And After Masvidal beat the great Diaz he promptly called out canelo for....a boxing match haha
Not sure how AJ got brought up, I agree hes a big star. But youre conveniently missing out that hes on PPV in the UK for 20 quid a pop while UFC PPV in the US costs around twice that.
Its still being talked about because **** all else has happened in boxing since that fight. And also because its the first time in almost two decades that HW boxing has gotten any real mainstream attention in America. What else is there to talk about? Cheeseman vs Eggington?
Youre using the term "fighter"again.... Theres a reason people say boxing match and MMA fight. Boxers are superior boxers (duh!) but vastly inferior fighters who can only consistenly win under the most limited ruleset in any major combat sport. The moment you even move to kickboxing rules they start losing, never mind full MMA rules. How the **** is that a superior "fighter"?
In what way is boxing "dominating" MMA in anything this side of like 2005?
AJ is currently the PPV draw in boxing and his numbers beat all ufc numbers
Is this thread not got a tone of UFC did 1.3 million so boxing is weaker haha
Dont make me pull Floyd's numbers
Not that I care about ppvs I'm not a promoter
You brought up ppvs and when I say about AJ you start talking price
No it's being talked about because it was a great rivalry
Decades?
Fury beat Klitschko not a 5 years ago and that opened up the division and also conversation again
And theres plenty to talk about which is why your a member of a boxing forum
Superior fighters as boxing has been here since gladiator times that's why it's an Olympic sport something UFC fighters will never have
Yes fighters...boxers fight in a boxing match haha hence the term fight night
Annnnnnnnd kickboxing is being used to discredit boxing that's just hilarious
And according to you ppv means dominance...
Last I checked boxing has the biggest sporting events of all time
We have Legends you have Conor
Hall of Famers like Ray Leonard and mike tyson
while you have BJ ****ing Penn and Tito ortiz haha
So usman is one of the top tier fighters yeah
And all of masvidals fights have been 50/50 match ups constantly
Yet he was a last minute and not on Usmans level...isnt that padding for Usman which you just said doesnt happen in UFC Haha
Jesus can bounce too
Calm yourself your not making sense now lad hahaha
Canelo would ruin the ufc
Each and every one of them
Canelo took a backseat for Masvidal last November, stop it.
They're being realistic. They don't rely too much on fans watching the fight live inside the stadium. Which is about right because it's just a small fraction compared to the number of fans watching the fights in the comfort of their homes.
Unlike boxing... we don't even know what they're waiting for. These isolation times are not going to be over anytime soon. They need to start accepting that.
As much as I find the guy boring you do realise AJ ppvs do much higher
AJ-vs parker is an example and that was a shlt fight
Not sure how AJ got brought up, I agree hes a big star. But youre conveniently missing out that hes on PPV in the UK for 20 quid a pop while UFC PPV in the US costs around twice that.
Regarding Fury-Wilder 2 it's still being talked about and I doubt very much anybody but UFC die hard will be talking about Usman or Masvidal
Its still being talked about because **** all else has happened in boxing since that fight. And also because its the first time in almost two decades that HW boxing has gotten any real mainstream attention in America. What else is there to talk about? Cheeseman vs Eggington?
Only thing I have implied is I have no interest in UFC and their fighters are inferior to professional boxers

And boxing will continue to dominate as a sport
In what way is boxing "dominating" MMA in anything this side of like 2005?
Wow. And this is during the pandemic.
When is boxing going to have its first PPV on these pandemic times?
What a shame.
Other than Canelo and a Pac-Man whose 10 years past his prime, boxing doesn’t have any big stars.
Inferior as boxers not as fighters. To quote the great Joe Rogan boxing is the art of punching, MMA is the art of fighting.
Yeah I think theres a tad more to boxing than punching
The great Joe Rogan haha that's new
You rear naked choke guys are really gassed up over some ppvs
It's cute
Well done for hitting a commercial market again
Rousey
Conor
Usman/Masvidal
Cant wait to see the next great bare footed hope who will keep boxing down haha
Boxing is fine
Go join a UFC group and celebrate our death
As much as I find the guy boring you do realise AJ ppvs do much higher
AJ-vs parker is an example and that was a shlt fight
Regarding Fury-Wilder 2 it's still being talked about and I doubt very much anybody but UFC die hard will be talking about Usman or Masvidal

A successful night of UFC ppv just means that...it was a successful night
Been here with Rousey Conor and now Masvidal as I dont think many bought it for Usman and after seeing reports they wont be in the future
And boxing will continue to dominate as a sport
As I said
UFC is the lil sister
Inferior as boxers not as fighters. To quote the great Joe Rogan boxing is the art of punching, MMA is the art of fighting.
I said he was nowhere near a p4p most skilled guy in the sport, which is what I thought you were implying.
No, its a much higher level of BOXING.
As much as I find the guy boring you do realise AJ ppvs do much higher

What a shame.
Which one is it hes either number 4 in the division
Or hes nowhere near at that skill level haha
I said he was nowhere near a p4p most skilled guy in the sport, which is what I thought you were implying.
boxing is a much higher level of fighting
No, its a much higher level of BOXING.
I find it bizarre people constantly have to pit MMA against Boxing, there's plenty of space for both the sports. But what I love the most, is ***** ass " fans" like yourself, I bet you've never even laced a glove up you clown, talking like you are the last defender of boxing, boxing doesn't need your ***** ass to defend it. You've probably done 2 or 3 boxing cardio classes and now consider yourself a boxer, you utter melt.
I didnt pit boxing against UFC I said I dont watch it and boxing is a much higher level of fighting
Last defender of boxing wtf
And about melt go suck ya mum ya wombat
Jorge was ranked #4 in the division. Usman had already beaten #3 in his previous fight and was booked to fight #2 on that show before it fell through like a week before. So no, that isnt record padding, record padding is fighting guys like Tom Schwarz and Steve Rolls. Or being WBC champion for over 3 years and on your 7th defence before you fight an actual top guy in the division, Wilder style.
Just think of the **** we all tolerate in boxing. Its basically the norm to have to wait 3+ years to see the biggest fights get made. **** is ****ing ridiculous.
Lol @ people still thinking **** like this in 2020. I thought MMA had blown the lid off this kinda stuff by now. You know...given that its a sport thats evolved based around what worked and didnt work in style vs style fights with very little in the way of rules to inhibit any of those styles.
Which one is it hes either number 4 in the division
Or hes nowhere near at that skill level haha
Hes a hypejob and will continue to lose
Another conor really
Is their really a superstar in boxing now? Even Canelo isn't as big as Conor. Boxers get paid is more though thats the only plus for them.
Canelo, Fury and Joshua are superstars imo. They're probably the next 3 biggest stars in combat sports after Conor. Obviously Pac is still around too but he doesnt draw like he used to. Wilder doesnt really draw outside of the Fury fights but a lot of people know of the guy.
I think the starpower in boxing now is a bit like that period in the 00s where Floyd and Pac hadnt blown up as mainstream stars yet while a lot of the well known 90s star were either retiring or just werent all that relevant anymore. De La Hoya was pretty much the only guy who was really moving the needle on PPV.
