Duran won by MD and claimed a title at MW, making him a 4 weight champ.
It was a close fight. A case could be made that Barkley outworked him. But at 37 and fighting at 160, Duran was pretty amazing. Barkley fought well and Roberto fought in spurts but Duran was such a natural fighter, great movement and really sweet short hooks and counters. Really fun to watch. The guy was just born to fight.
Yeah, but from a fan's standpoint I just remember how dreadfully boring that 3rd SRL fight was.
I can't blame Duran for taking the payday though.
Fair point. It’s probably the only fight between the four kings that lacks excitement.
That was a terrific fight because the expectations were so low. Duran did not have one muscle in his body and it was amazing to see that performance. He showed skills and a great chin. There is not a dull moment in that fight.
Very close fight and the knockdown might have sealed it for him. I had Barkley slightly ahead but this fight was very close.
The SRL payday was too big to walk away from. He should have retired after that fight though.
He went on way too long. Watching him against Joppy was horrible.

Unbelievable performance... and the last great performance of his career. I have Duran winning it by a point with the late knockdown making the difference. What a fighter Duran was...
Gil Clancey who was announcing was in awe of Duran's performance.
Yeah, I noticed that. Clancy said he couldn't believe that Duran was the same guy who beat his fighter for the LW championship in 1972.

He fought a very good fight against a naturally larger man at 38 years old and not to mention dropping him to the canvas also.
Close fight could have went either way, but the knockdown probably is the difference.
Barkley just iced Hearns, so he was expected to win against the older and smaller guy.
Duran showed why his is one of the greatest and delivered a throwback performance for the ages.
