It seems that a lot of people downplay the fact Holyfield has two wins against Mike Tyson.
Mike Tyson was the most feared puncher in boxing history, and his defense and technical skills were not half baked either.
Many felt Holyfield would be seriously injured or killed.
Holyfield beat Tyson clearly in the first fight, and won because of the ear incident the second fight.
Why doesn’t Holyfield get his due recognition for defeating a young legend? He proved it wasn’t a fluke the way he was fighting the second fight.
Buster isnt rated as high because a lot of people see it as a fluke. Buster fought the fight of his life vs Tyson and a lot of people beleived Tyson was underprepared for Buster who at the time was seen as a cakewalk. I mean, how serious are you gonna take a guy when the odds are 42 to 1?
But alas, while he did beat Tyson, Buster for the most part had had a lackluster career before and after. He lost easily to Holyfield and fought less than stellar competition the rest of his career.
One big win doesnt make someone "great". People also look for sustained success. Which is also why some people rate Tyson high and some rate him lower.
1988 Mike Tyson was a beast. But 1988 Tyson only fought in 1988. The rest of his career post prison to retirement was pretty lackluster.
I rate Holyfield higher than both those guys because Holyfield was a beast roids or no roids. The dude fought WARS and has a resume stacked with all the big names even if he didnt win them all. He took on everyone.
Busters win wasn't a fluke. This isn't a video game. He beat Mike and knocked him out- a prime Mike. I don't make excuses for fighters because thats opinion. Which leads to favoritism. Nobody was more underprepared than Buster who's mother had died right before the fight. Mike was simply exposed.
- -U always been stale *******s and flat kola?
Mike a positive record breaker cleaned out the festering stink of tubby Lar 80s to set the entire sports world afire.
Only record Field set was the most hvywt title losses with nobody close to him as they continued to prop up his stiff carcass for laughs and giggles.
Reported for trolling. Keep it up. Please lol.
- -Field the most hvy title losses in history, 10-7-2. He starts a rapid decline after Big George tore him a new one. It's in my book.
Where can I find this book?
Haha what the hell do you mean might be greater than Tyson? Holyfield is one of the greatst heavyweights ever, probably the most underrated. Tyson the most overrated. Evander has such a superior resume and ability in the ring.

I think he’d have a 50-50 shot with the much smaller Ali. Ali has more speed so that one’s up in the air for me. Foreman in his prime probably beats that Buster, as I think he’s bad stylistically for him. Like a Deontay Wilder who can actually box. As for Lewis, I think he’s slightly overhyped. I think that Buster beats Lewis 2 out of 3 times. Honest answer, no disrespect.
You may not be disrespectful like most Tyson fans but you're still just as deluded if you think Busty does that well against those legends.
He was a glass chinned mental question mark in comparison. Buster beat overrated Tyson and the inconsistent McCall, and showed his true colors against Tucker and Holyfield. He was very talented offensively, no question about it. But he could not handle it on the receiving end.
Holyfield's heart was as big as they get. He was a warrior every time he fought. True champion! Very professional and consistent. He might even be greater than Mike Tyson. In many ways he is greater!

Great post, and no, I don’t think what you said is corny. Highly spiritual fighters, be it Holyfield, Ali, Fury, whoever... have shown to be very tough to intimidate by a bully, whether it’s being in the ring with a prime Foreman, Iron Mike, Wilder, etc.
Oh yeah never underestimate a mans belief in a higher power, it can be super powerful.
You don’t think that version of Buster coulda beat AJ, Wilder and Fury? Honestly asking.
Totally different fight, Mike was not that hard to out box, as soon as guy was not intimidated and put him on the end of stiff jab they had him.
I thinks Mikes power and notoriety was far higher than his boxing, Mike took the head of a truck load of stiffs and a few old name HWs , his most competitive fights with top guys he lost.
Hed beat Wilder if he could reach him, AJ would be like Buster Douglas but could get stopped, Fury too big too much movement he would just octopus Mike.
HaHa sorry mate I fcd up your question lol.
That Buster probably would not look anywhere near as good against the really big HWs.

So if Tyson didn't catch the case, the fight may have happened earlier. I'm gonna say two controversial things here: 1) noone really knows what happened between the girl and Tyson except the girl and Tyson. Cause Don king apparently did not pay for quality lawyers for Tyson. Tyson has admitted he's done alot of bad things but rape wasn't one of them 2) I don't want to get caught up in the hype, but I've been hearing that Mike's white previous handlers were odd and eccentric, I'll leave it at that because I don't have my facts straight, nor do I want to Sully someone's rep.
The night holyfield knew he would beat Tyson was when they were amateurs, everyone was scared of Mike except for holy. He knew he had the mental edge going into the pros.
As well holyfield studied Mike. He watched Mike rip up the heavybag with destructive inside punishment. Holy said he went to the bag and tried to copy Tyson but his arms were too long, he was too tall to fire off those inside punches.
Holy had god on his side. Every time mike hit him he prayed. I know it sounds corny but he bullied the bully. Just the fact that Mike won a title after prison speaks volumes about his strength. I think this was just the case where the better man won that night. And hey they had unfinished business in the second fight, so let's please welcome a third fight!

Fury? Not even close. Wilder needs one good hit and Douglas is wrecked mentally and quits soon. AJ probably does the same.

Congrats on a roided up Holyfield headbutting himself to two victories I guess?
This.
Nobody sees the post-prison Tyson as great at this point.

Complete nonsense. Douglas had plenty of weaknesses and fought such a super mega great fight that he was one second from being counted out after a bad KD and got saved by the bell.
That same version of Douglas ran out of gas against Tucker and quit standing.
He beat prime Tyson's ass thoroughly but is nowhere near the best heavyweights we've seen. He had a good gameplan he stuck to and even got lucky to win that one.

Well, on that one night in Tokyo, I rate Buster as high as any Hw In my book ... but he just didn’t have the discipline to sustain it. Everything came together on that one night for him and he fought the fight of the century

Evander doesn't get credit because of Tyson fanboys, who have small underdeveloped brains. They try to turn Tyson's legacy into some comic book BS where he has a mythical 'form' and that's their safe spot to go in any debate.
"Oh that doesn't count, it wuzn't prime Tython!" is the dumbest most over-used phrase in boxing.
Even a roided up Evander I don't think takes Mike in his prime. Even he said he was lucky to fight Mike when he did because Mike became predictable in the way he moves.
"Prime Tyson" was just as easy to tie up. He was always a complete weakling and lazy arse in the clinch, that's how he had some dull fights even before prison. That version of Holyfield who beat him up so thoroughly would do the same to him at any point in his career.
