Ryan would be dumb to leave Goldenboy. To me, it seems like the partnership makes sense. In some way, he resembles a young Oscar. Goldenboy doesn’t have many stars in their stable, so aside from Canelo, Ryan is the main focus. Oscar’s approval means a lot to Mexicans and Mexican Americans. Al Haymon didn’t make most of the fighters under PBC. That was mostly Oscar. Al hasn’t been able to make a star of his own.
Fighters might get paid more with Haymon, but Oscar makes fighters rich with ventures outside of boxing. Even Victor Ortiz got movie roles and some other gigs under Oscar and he lost a lot of fights. Look at Canelo with Under Armor and Corona. Hispanics are the demographic that buy the most PPVs and Oscar knows how to reach out to that audience.
If Ryan Garcia leaves Oscar:
1) It would be a terrible marketing move. Ryan Garcia looks better under the Goldenboy Roster
2) His career wouldn’t be carefully managed. Let’s face it, he has talent, but they’re being soft on him
3) He will be limiting himself to just boxing and selling cheap Instagram products. Oscar can turn him into a businessman
We’re in a recession and a pandemic. Ryan Garcia folded a smaller man in a round in his last fight and got $250k for it. He’s not a world champ, so $200k for a tune up in an empty arena isn’t bad. That’s the minimum amount in his contract, he agreed to it and we’re in a tough time. Many DAZN subscribers cancelled and no one can attend these fights. Ryan should be happy and shut up.
I agree
He does look special up to now
He really needs to step up his competition
You lost me with the champion skit lol/QUOTE]
Haha!
I simply meant that I know a fighter is special/really good when he holds a belt for a significant period of time and no one is making significant noise trying to take the belt from him. Andrade and Gary Russell are two examples that come to mind.
Ok , now I get it
And yes very unfortunate that’s their mindset
Ryan Garcia and Canelo are Golden Boy.
GBP is not the operation it once was. It's just a shell of a big company, and an albatross around Canelo and Garcia's necks.
Canelo is as big as he's going to get; he should strike out and promote himself. Garcia would be much better off promoted by Haymon.
Oscar was my hero as a kid, but he's run his company into the ground with his stupidity, addictions and ego.
Naw, Golden Boy still has Vergil Ortiz and young guns like Luis Hernandez, Alexis Rocha and William Zepeda. Say what you will about Oscar but he knows how to pick out talent and grow them.
Ryan Garcia makes that a pretty deep stable. It's just a shame he is starting to act like a diva. $200,000 was fair pay given the current environment with no crowds.

Haymon is only in the business of making fights and getting fighters paid well for fights, but Oscar is in the business of business overall. He doesn’t only want to settle for boxing, he wants his fighters to be an icon, so they can retire and still have some type of cash flow. Al Haymon can’t help you with that. He doesn’t do a great job at promoting fighters to be a household name. They’re getting paid fair, but they’re just another name on the card they’re promoting and that’s that.
Oscar has the biggest star in boxing and he can’t even get a Canelo the dates he wants. Signing the DAZN deal has killed Canelos shine in America. The deal might’ve made Canelo rich but he was going to be rich regardless of where he fought. As far as marketing goes DAZN has screwed up big time.
The worst is that I think he is the goods.
Anytime a champion (who is not a "cash cow" per se) holds a belt for a significant period of time and no other fighter is trying/making serious noise in order to take the belt away from him...

Definitely
It’s like they put him on the shelf and he never made it out
Wtv , I’m sure he’s making good money to fight bad opposition but that’s all he’ll be remembered for at this rate

Indeed! Unless Andrade is strictly in for the good paychecks, Andrade can't be too happy with Hearn and DAZN at the moment especially when he looks at what they've done so far for his pal Jacobs.

Although GBP hasn’t built any stars ( and yes since Schaefer took off ) especially , they seem to be working on it with the likes of Garcia and Ortiz
What I do totally agree is Dazn ain’t interested in building stars
They don’t give two fughs about stardom
They care about conquering the market with subs
Just need to look at Andrade , they’ve done fugh all for him
And in all honesty seems like Dazn counts on two guys ; AJ and Canelo

Gbp has done it alot of times? With who? They built 1 star. (Canelo)
GBP hasn't built **** since scheafer walked out that door bro.
Dazn isnt the platform to build a star. Nobody watches in america

Al Haymon doesn't have a good track record of building a fighter into a star from scratch.
Golden Boy has done it a lot of times.
Top Rank just paid Shakur Stevenson $400,000 for his fight. Does Ryan think he will get that much from them when he hasn't even won a world title like Stevenson has?

Ryan is acting like an entitled little punk. If he leaves golden boy, he is going to get overshadowed at top rank or pbc due to the sheer number of talent who are waaaaaaaaay better than him. He just needs to calm the f down and let things play out, and eventually it would make sense if he is that big of a draw.
He has NOT shown that his social media following translate to his boxing views.
That's a fair point. Haymon does have a history of doing ok with guys that Oscar has already invested time and money in.
I don't think Al understands the Hispanic market the way Oscar does, though. Leo Santa Cruz should have been a bigger star and his career has basically stagnated at this point.
But Ryan is different.... He has a personality and diffrent fanbase. Why i say he would do go good with anybody. Plus imagine Ryan Garcia headlining a PBC event bringing all his fans to free TV.
Ryan Garcia has juice
PPVs don’t make you a superstar, but now they’re more focused on monthly subscribers. As soon as Ryan wins a belt, he can call shots. Right now he’s behind the other two young champs, Teofimo and Devin Haney.
Yeah, I agree. This kind of sht pisses me off. I see this in my industry all the time. Dumb@** people are always trying to demand more without having earned it yet. I'm pretty sure Oscar is telling him that he needs a belt before he can make demands but Ryan is too stupid to comprehend (just listen to him speak lol). Also Ryan can be a diva all he wants and get no where. Leaving GBP is leaving Eddie Reynoso and he knows that would be the end of his career. I predict he'll probably get an easy belt in the next couple of years and retire. I feel like he only get attention because of his looks. Honestly, Virgil Ortiz is a better boxer and I'm pretty sure he'll leave a way better legacy in the long run.
But Ryan wouldn't be from scratch.... I think Ryan has enough juice to go Haymon and prosper
