Was rewatching some Juan Manuel Marquez fights today, I kind of forgot he fought Salido on the Hopkins-De La Hoya undercard. At the time, this was viewed as a very underwhelming opponent and performance for/by Marquez. In hindsight it was a good win.
Salido would go on to be a 4 time, 2 division champion beating an undefeated Juanma Lopez and again in a rematch, Robert Guerrero (sort of) and Vasyl Lomachenko albeit in only Loma’s second professional fight. He also got jobbed against both Rocky Martinez (rematch) and Francisco Vargas IMO. Very good fighter.
Any other wins that’s status improved greatly over time?
Mayweather-Alvarez went from a well-timed win over a strong, bigger, young opponent to having a damn good chance of being Mayweather's best win. Every Canelo fight just increases the prestige of that win.
In hindsight it’s possibly Mayweather’s best win.
At the time I thought it was a good win over a good champion but in hindsight he beat the one of the best fighters of the next generation.
Floyd over manny became better over time because manny whooped Thurman.
Thurman was the top or top 2 welterweight I think
This win over manny could continue to get better. I think manny has enough left in the tank to beat any welter not named Crawford and Spence This year
Corrales and JLC also went into have great fights with each other after Floyd beat both
Floyd over Cotto doesn’t come to mind when win getting better over time is mentioned. Miguel became lineal MW champ by beating a shot Sergio, who got a hometown decision in his prior fight
Just stop with the Mayweather shilling man.
Pacquiao was already an ATG when Floyd beat him.
Cotto was already a great win.
Corrales and Castillo were both already established fighters.
I’m looking more for wins that got dramatically better. I’m not looking for a play by play on Mayweather’s resume.
Kovalev/Pascal
Margarito/Martinez
Pirog/Jacobs
Fury/Chisora II
Tyson/Holmes
Mayweather/JMM
Usyk/Hunter
Bivol/Pascal
Garcia/Lipinets
Usyk-Hunter is one, I remember thinking this was a step down from Glowacki and Mchunu.
Marquez over salido is a good shout. A couple that come to mind for me:
Roy Jones over Bernard Hopkins
Salvador Sanchez over Azumah Nelson
Margarito over Sergio Martinez
Andrey Kotelnik over Marcos Maidana
Freddie Norwood over Juan Manuel Marquez
Great shouts...

Nope, a lot of his wins DID age well.
Pacquiao went on to after the Floyd fight beat Bradley, Vargas, Matthysse and Thurman. Which fighter from 2016 on has a better resume than that? Can count on one hand for that and you still won't use all of your fingers. I'd say that win aged well, not to mention Pacquiao was P4P #2 fighter in the world at that time.
Canelo just a year later went on to beat Lara and then went on to beat GGG, Jacobs and Kovalev. I'd say that win aged well.
JMM showed he can compete at WW by his performances against Pacquiao and Bradley, but that win was what it was. Odds were actually closer than people think but he went back down to LW after the fight before making his way back up to WW.
Cotto had some nice performances post-Floyd against Martinez, Geale and even was solid against Canelo. Did get clearly beat by Trout and later Ali years later. But solid win for sure.
Funny how you mention he drained Canelo but then said cheated the scales of JMM. All he did was prevent JMM from draining him!!!!!!! See how that works?
You quoted me but I amended post too late, re-read it.
But you are right his wins aged well but don't mean they're great wins as they were cws or green, or not far removed coming off devastating ko loss and still gun shy, and a fight Floyd didn't look good in.
But it's true most who were deemed good before fighting Floyd disappeared soon after.
I think you might have misunderstood thread title.
Floyd beat drained green nelo. Floyd s win over jmm He bloated jmm up and cheated scales. Pac, most think he lost to Pac, Pac was gun shy still not long after jmm ko. Pac today is a better versio n.
But why not cotto? He beat Sergio didn't he?
But most of Floyd s wins didn't age too well.

Was gonna say the same thing, Floyd v Pacquiao at least is ageing badly so far, I think it's likely gonna be forever looked upon as a flawed fight

Beat me to Sanchez's win over Nelson. I think it really is a good example as he was getting it handed to him by a 14 fight pro, from what I see anyway. Azumah's ensuing HOF career makes it a bit easier for me to watch him beat Sal up for a lot of that fight
Floyd Canelo
Floyd Marquez
Floyd manny
You could say nel o and pac wins have ages well but don't mean they are great wins. But surely you could have been more imaginative and named someone other than floyd?
But why not cotto? He beat Sergio didn't he?
But most of Floyd s wins didn't age too well. Most disappear soon after losing to floyd
I mean MAB's win at the time over Hamed was already big. But what exactly did Hamed go on to do after the MAB fight to make that win look better? Likewise with Broner?
RJJ is asking for examples of wins that look even better years later. Meaning when the losing fighter went on to do big things afterwards and proved just how good he was.
Yup
My bad
Went back to read it and your on spot
That’s why they call you King
Thanks brother , much appreciated
What he Fugh do I know lol
Why not though ?
Not being a smart ass but I thought it was the perfect answer
God damn it another failed exam

Don't think these wins fit the question at hand tbh.
I'll say:
Mayweather vs Canelo
Calzaghe vs Hopkins
Caudras vs Sristaket
I'll post others that come to my mind.
