Mike Tyson is one of the best known athletes of all time around the world.
In the late 80’s and early 90’s it was Tyson and Jordan at the top of that list.
No fighter today has that kind of reach for a number of reasons. Notably the decline of boxing as a mainstream sport and the lack of Americans in the heavyweight scene.
- -What grade U in?
Manny went full global over a decade ago.
Americans going full sissy has nothing to do with Manny popularity.
Tyson is known for becoming the youngest HW champ ever by destroying bums. Then he became famous for being a dimwitted thug.
So much for the worth of popularity

Ehh that’s because the boxers these days aren’t the warriors they used to be.
It used to be the best fight the best in their division and that was that. No dodging or ducking or letting fights “marinate”. By the time the fight marinates both guys could fight 2-3x already and earn 2-3x the money.
A lot of this ducking and hyping up their fighters in boxing is a staple in the culture now mostly due to Floyd’s 50-0 promotion of himself and his style of avoiding combat in the ring.

I dont like this comeback thing of his. At first it was just talking about a charity exhibition match... which Ive seen Chavez Sr's charity exhibitions and they are about what I would expect for any 50 something returning boxer, a light sparring.
Now you got Holyfield calling him out and all this chit, Tyson is already slurring a bit and Holyfield is one of the worst examples of slurring and shouldnt even be sparring.
Ive seen casuals and non fans talking about if Mike Tyson could beat Fury and theyre fuking serious about it like kevin mcbride 15 years ago never happened.
That's ****ing stupid. Inflation and ****ty deals, end of. Mike was way more popular than Joshua has ever been.
You realize every little kid in the 80s grew up with punch-out. There's a whole generation of gamers who give no ****s and never will give any ****s about boxing who not only know who Mike Tyson is but also love the dude.
Where is Joshua's videogame? Is he even in any? Oh but him made money doe.
Mike got 30k from Nintendo. He got screwed because he'd dumb, but, he's waaaaaay more popular than anyone since.....duh.
- -OK, all U leetle Hello Kittys grew up on punch out, a big WoW!
I'm talking all time heavywt purse and gate records of the 3rd millennium belong to AJ with a nod to longevity of Wlad who had more stadium fights attendance.
The funny thing is that the reason hes so popular is because he literally wanted to kill his opposition in the ring and just how mean he was with an angry ass face
Then when he reformed from his ways people could relate to him and realised he was merely a human and not an animal
He was an enigma a ferocious bad guy who nobody wanted to **** with
That was due to the marketing machine and lack of access to more information. People were indoctrinated with repetitive narratives back then.
So it was easier back then to become an icon than now. If Mike Tyson had been in this era, people would've written him off after he lost to Douglas. Then the Holyfield and Lennox fights would've sealed it for him as being grossly overrated.
You are so right here. Different times that's all.
Of course. Aside from his boxing career, he’s been in movies, TV shows, Late Night shows, WWF, WWE, AEW (wrestling), his own cartoon series of 4 seasons/64 episodes, and a documentary.
Tyson has had more exposure and overall tv time after his boxing career ended than he did when he was actually boxing. While he boxed he was largely unapproachable by tv directors and producers. I’m surprised he was offered $20+ million to fight, I honestly think he is probably worth more than that due to his fanbase being even bigger than it was in the 90s. He can easily generate enough interest that he can earn $50million.
If they had fake p33nises to escape drug tests and they were on PEDs and cocaine like Mike Tyson was - they would spark him out in 3 rds.
Mike Tyson was great because of the big machine he had behind him - not for his talent. He was one dimensional and lost every big fight he fought.
If you was a star in the 80's/90's you was a bonafide star 'Social media platforms have created a illusion, athletes gain afew million followers and think they have made it.
Mike Tyson was a world wide Icon, before the age of social media.
Mike Tyson is popular between stupid casuals who don`t even wanna remember he was stopped by Holyfield and Lewis.
Makes me laugh how poeple even discuss he should make a real comeback, but dude was a journeyman 15 years ago.
Like, 38 old Mike was shot, but 53 old Mike is real deal. Stupid casuals.
Damn, you really got triggered. Why did this make you so upset?
It is a pretty dumb thread/question though.
Mike Tyson is one of the most recognizable names in any walk of life.
Mike Tyson is from the pre-internet era, man.
It's like saying it's a shame Fleetwood Mac is bigger than any recent band. Of course they are; they're from an era where there were a fraction of the options to choose from for entertainment... not just sports but across the board.
Very well put.
What a dumbass thread. Hes also more popular than 95 percent of current boxers and ufc fighters.
Especially whem you had games, movies and his current hilarious show mike tyson mysteries.
Op your a ****ing idiot
