That man very easily could have won all of those fights. Canelo and Williams robbed him IMO and Hurd only scraped it on a knockdown. Lara is really something else. So underrated, seems to be a nightmare to deal with for everyone. Slippery southpaw with great foot movement and excellent straight punching, probably the best of current fighters at moving. Maybe Ioka has a shout as that too. Regardless. I'm always impressed with how he's adapted that classic Cuban amateur style to the pros. How would you rate him talent wise? I think it's a shame he won't be remembered as one of history's possible #1 p4p fighters in his era.
Lara is a great fighter . Robbery wise I think the William's decision was criminal !!! Lara has been a part of some of the worst decisions of the last decade . I personally had Hurd winning becuase of the knockdown but wouldnt argue if Lara got the nod ( iam going off just watching the fight live and scoring it as the fight went ....nothing too critical ).
That being said , Lara has struggled with some odd very slow styles . Until he broke angulos orbital bone I thought he was losing that fight ( although he was coming on as the fight progressed) , and i also thought he lost to Carlos Molina. Now I believe Lara likely underestimated these two guys , but that's on him , and he did beat angulo , and the record books show a draw in the case of molina . I also felt Lara beat castano in a close fight , but I wont argue the draw . It was very competitive , again just my opinion . I def dont think Lara is close to or the number one p4p fighter of his era , not even close . One could argue top 10( not saying I would) . But even that's a stretch .
One of Lara’s clearest faults was that he never developed any real inside game. An opponent would close in, Lara would cover up and wait for the barrage to be over before throwing another punch. Barely ever threw anything other than a one-two. One of the most skilled yet limited fighters I’ve ever seen.
Well he is a typical Cuban outboxer so his style is no surprise.

U Sissyboy too?
What the hell are you saying you mongo? Just shut up and leave this thread.
Oh stop it.
Master boxers get robbed all the time.
Pernell Whittaker got robbed.
Jersey Joe Walcott got robbed.
Lennox Lewis got robbed.
All in fights they dominated
It happens all of the time.
I agree with that, I was just saying their are a lot of people who are saying he got robbed in all his losses. We all know that's not the case, and sometimes him along with his fans have to realize the blame lies with him. Obviously master boxers get robbed.
No, was pointing out the fact if he was such a master boxer and super talented as some suggest. The judges should have never had the chance to rob him, because he would have clearly dominated. Getting robbed happens all the time. But with lara most of the time he just did enough and it cost him. Never stepped on the gas.

Very reductionist and silly statement. He came to win, he showed that by outboxing all of those fighters.

I like Lara (trains out of Houston) and it sucks he has been on the unfortunate side of some close decisions. The only two I think he should have taken clearly are the Paul Williams fight and the Vanes Martirosyan fight that came to an end on a cut.
All that said if I remember correctly he got a fortunate decision of his own against Carlos Molina (do not personally like his style) prior to the Williams fight.
Now as far as Carlos Molina goes, (personal life aside) he has gotten the bad end of decisions and outcomes in a lot of key fights. The Kirkland one being one of the sorriest ways for a fight to come to an end with De la Hoya encouraging the DQ.
i specifically remember watching williams/lara with an ex gf of mine....eating ice cream sundaes...i said "watch theyre gonna rob lara"....
lara is good/tough...its no wonder team golovkin acted like he didnt exist

Floyd Mayweather vs Canelo Alvarez had 116-112 and 113-113 scorecards.
I'd say he got the results of a B level fighter while being an A level fighter in ability.
I can agree with that. I think he had all the ability but never mastered that “balance” between offence and defence. Still, I thought he clearly beat Williams and came close against Canelo.

I don't have a problem with that assessment, he never made scoring for him too easy in his bigger fights that's for certain.

Good thread...I've said it many times...if he was from the US UK or Mexico he would very likely be undefeated right now.
To be clear I saw him lose 7-5 to Canelo...but point being is that being a 'boring' no-English-speaking Cuban, he got no favors in his fights.
One of my favorites to watch...my only issue with him is he would tend to piss away rounds and make fights closer than they should have been.
Yeah you're right, his one major fault is dithering too much in close fights that he easily could've taken without much doubt.
- -Did Lady Lara even show up for them fights other than to pick up a paycheck?
Only in Sissyboy world!

Very skilled fighter but didn’t put his foot on the gas and really show out in any of his big fights and often did “just enough” to win. I respect his skills but after watching his fights I never thought to myself “wow I need to see this guy again”.
I think that was hardwired in him by the Cuban amateur system.
I wouldn’t put him in the same sentence as Mayweather to be honest. Real good fighter but I was never crazy about him and I don’t think he lived up to his potential. Even early in his career he was struggling with guys than an elite/special fighter would’ve beat easy. He was dominating Williams and was still backing away and being extra cautious which sums him up to me. Even in his other losses while you can argue them, but you still have to admit he could’ve done more, and didn’t “take the fight” like you have to when it’s at that level.
I respect guys who hit and don’t get hit but there’s a “balance” the truly elite fighters have when it comes to that, and to me Lara always struggled with that. Like he could embarrass a guy whenever he let his hands go and still somehow lose the round. I’d say he’s a strong B level fighter, and that’s no insult at all. Not many A level fighters around.

No they do not sir. I think he might be even better than Mayweather at the whole hit and not get hit moniker. It's only ever been a slugfest when he's decided it would be a slugfest. Plus I think now at 37 we'll see him using his legs less and less but there's no doubting the excellence of his boxing skills.

He has only himself to blame. He doesnt do enough. He throws a one two without the 2 and then cries robbery every time he loses :lol1:
I can barely remember the canelo fight, all i remember is having a bet on canelo and thinking he would be lucky to win considering all he did was land a few bodyshots all fight.
He lost to castano and i never watched the williams fight.
He probobly should of won the canelo fight but it was still close, not exactly robbery of the decade. He, like badou jack simply does not do enough, doesnt throw enough punches, takes rounds off and then cries when the decicion goes the other way. Its kinda annoying. No one would care if he retired. Hes extremely boring and has no fans ( bar a couple of boxing hipsters) for a reason.
