Regardless of the outcome of the fight, this thread is about the most ANTICIPATED matches of all time.
Let’s see if any of you pretend boxing fans really know your stuff, you should be able to pull memories of the excitement prior to a fight and what the public behavior was like.
I’ll throw some names and let’s see if we can put together a list of the TOP 10.
De La Hoya-Mayweather
Pacquiao-Mayweather (obviously number one)
Pacquiao-Marquez 3
Mayweather-Canelo
Tyson-Holyfield II
De La Hoya-Trinidad
Ali-Frazier
Let’s keep it going. Drop some of the most anticipated matches!! I know Cotto got a couple in there.

Leonard - Hearns I would imagine.
They were both huge in the promotional aspect ( not saying either wasnt an big fight ), Super political with the US vs nazi party angle . But the second fight was the year before the war popped off and Germany had just taken over Austria and was having alot of tension with the west , so the promotion was even more powerful ( albeit rediculous ) the second time . In fight 2 the world heavyweight championship was on the line aswell . Iam sure not many truly anticipated louis schmeling 1 except boxing fans . It was the promotion of that which kicked it all off and made such a big fight . In the rematch joe was the champ and seemed invincible but he wouldnt be perceived as just that until he beat schmeling . That's why the fight fans highly anticipated that one . Everyone wanted to see it before it was signed . And for the rematch the whole world wanted to see it .
Interesting thanks Norm
Tank Davis vs Vasyl Lomachenko
Ryan Garcia vs Devin Haney
These 2 are bang on . Those and formerly joshua wilder were the most anticipated fights in world boxing currently. Maybe add spence Crawford and AJ fury to the list
I have a few, lesser ones, not necessarily top ten, but still highly anticipated with great buildups
Floyd vs Mcgregor
Haye vs Klitschko
Haye vs Chisora
Ward vs Froch
Ward vs Kovalev
Canelo vs GGG
Froch vs Groves 2
Haye klitchsko is a great one . The anticipation of that was WAY better than the fight haha but it was crazy. It was the only real fight for wlad at the time that presented what seemed like a reasonable challenge, unless he fought vitali
Yes Ali-Frazier were huge...as was Ali-Foreman.
Just curious as to why you feel fight 2 between Louis and Schmelling wast the bigger one? Wasn't fight 1 huge as well? Genuine question.

Ali frazier 1 is prolly the no 1 that or joe Louis max schmeling 2 or money vs pac imo . Doesnt get much bigger than those .

I think fights 1 and 2 have to be up there...probably as highly anticipated as any 2 fights out there

Mayweather-Pac was not a big one for me - can't say that is definitely number 1 - maybe for casuals...if they fought 5 years prior when they should have it would have been deserving of top 10 imo...but as it was, that one was more of an event rather than a fight...I didn't really care about it at all; though I did eagerly Google who won the next morning when I woke up.
Where is schmeling Louis 2 ?? Arguably the biggest fight of all time . That and ali frazier which u have listed here
