You may very well be right. Many whites in America saw that fight as some kind of test of racial superiority. Boxing was also much more popular back then, so a much higher percentage of the population was affected.
Fans of Duran after he quit against Leonard.
I’m old enough to remember. I was a big fan of Duran back then. That one hurt. Still haunts people to this day, even the winner.
With Wilder fans (not boxing fans) taking that L so hard I was wondering if we can put together a top 5 list of the hardest L's in boxing history.

Most of the Wilder threads are made by alts, so it's hard to even know if they're wilder fans making awful excuses, or wilder haters just stirring the pot.
Its definitely wilder haters trying to stir the pot. Cobra and Curt Henning are both banned so maybe its them but I doubt it. I saw Ric made a thread about the gloves. Now he surely isn't a wilder fan.
Tyson fanatics were rough too. They still run that whole "If Cus lived, if he didn't break from Jacobs and ff the sun tilted at this angle, Mike wore this lotion and took this exact time walking to the ring then nobody in history can touch him." I remember them before he fought Lewis (and I like Mike more than Lennox) making threats if you thought Lewis could win and then a meltdown afterwards.
Yes, I have a lot blocked. When a fighter means more to a person than the sport then that's a problem and leads to radical fanboyism. I am a huge Tito Trinidad fan and his fans were like this too.
The worst from my experience have been: Mayweather, Pacquaio, Wilder, Tyson, Jones, Golovkin, Joshua, Canelo and (sadly I have to admit) Trinidad.
I get the Tyson fans with the "what if" because I like to think of "What if he didn't fire Rooney?" or "What if Cus lived longer" but ****, there are people that still bring up a slow count against Douglas.
And agreed. I'm a fan of some fighters and I still block their fans for being homers lol
Roy's fans got on the defensive over the first Tarver fight when Roy "Won" lol. Roy's fans back then thought he walked on water. I still say Pacquao fans are the worst though, and I like Manny, but his fans are awful.
And I saw Joshua fans on here saying Ruiz should be DQ'd for hitting Josh behind the ear. There are awful idiots on all sides on here. I just tend to have 80% of them blocked lol

Yeah, Loma didn't have many fans or haters back then. I think he's made that one up.
I've never seen as many ridiculous conspiracy theories and stupid videos about why a fighter lost in such a one-sided manner as I have with Wilder fans. Joshua fans weren't pointing fingers and calling foul play, Golovkin fans complained of a bad decision (which it sort of was), same with Kovalev in Ward I, I'd say Pacquaio fans were always pretty terrible when their man lost and IMO along with Mayweather fans the reasons message boards took a major ****. Terrible fans of the sport. I think Wilder fans had reached that level before their boy was thumped and have taken the hammering with as much grace as Wilder has.
To answer OP it's hard to tell since social media and forums have made it easier to see reactions.
Jones fans after Tarver was a big one. They had Jones has the undisputed god of sport and the best ever and if you disagreed you knew nothing. Pacquaio fans meltdown after Marquez iced him was precious too and I'd say Wilder-Fury II rounds it up. These were all brutal fights where nobody argued the winner yet these fools still argued and cried.

When it happened, the fans rooting for Salido did go in. The Loma diehards were mad about how much Salido weighed and how he fought dirty.
I just don't think the Wilder fans have been as vociferous as other bases after the loss. There seems to be this contrived narrative that "wilder fans" are all devastated and making threads and excuses. I haven't seen that on NSB.

I wasn't on here when Loma lost to Saldio, but did Loma have a huge fanbase back then? It's usually the Loma haters I see making threads about that.

Why are posters over exaggerating the response from people that were rooting for Wilder to win? Wilder fans have been no where near as bad as Manny, GGG, Kov, AJ or Loma fans when they lost. There hasn't been a constant spamming of threads or anything like that.

^^^^^
Maybe it’s just my neck of woods but everyone was a fan of Jones Jr.
We all took that sort of hard. Especially since it was Tarver, who is annoying.
Where are you from? Mula mentioned you're part of the Canadian Cartel on here, and I know I was cheering for Tarver lol

Off top of my head...
Frampton vs Warrington
Pacquiao vs JMM (4th fight)
Whitaker vs De La Hoya
Margarito vs Mosley
Hatton vs Pacquiao
Pavlik vs Hopkins
For an L to be a "Hard L" it has to satisfy two criteria:
1.) The fighter has to be popular/hyped
2.) The loss has to haunt fan bases.
Ranked:
1. Pacquiao getting KOed by Marquez
2. Miguel Cotto bending the knee to Margarito
3. Trinidad getting stopped by Hopkins
4. Tarver stopping Jones
5. Ward stopping Kovalev
