He just made less than half the money he could have made, got his butt kicked twice, got a draw and a loss to show for it...not to mention the public image has taken a severe nose dive.
But certain posters, who are now mostly in hiding told me this was all good business, and Dibella needs to "know his place"
Still betting on himself?
I get all of that..it's the lying, the shamelessly laying the blame on Joshua.
Joshua is a decent man - anyone who observes him can tell that. He is not full of s**t, and he clearly wants to unify.
I mean...we got Wilder boasting about how hard they were trying to make the fight - but still Wilder fans blamed AJ. That made me disrespect Wilder.
The only teeny bit of grace I can afford Wilder is that he is quite unintelligent and I believe that he was manipulated by his advisors into not taking the fight.
To complicate matters, the animosity between Finkel and Hearn was never going to help, and the fact that Dazn was making moves stateside was more motivation for them to encourage DW not to fight AJ.
No matter. We see now who had class in defeat and who was utterly vile when he lost. Truth prevails. As fans we look forward to fights being made - I am just so so weary of Wilder's excuses for not fighting Joshua and now more excuses for his loss - I simply cannot see how he will risk himself an embarrassment at the hands of Joshua. He won't do it. He is so mentally fragile he would literally be suicidal if he took a beating. God has a way of humbling people who are too proud, it's Wilder's lesson to learn or not learn.
hearn claimed to want to make the fight when his real plan was to launch dazn with a non US PPV. That suggested he really wasn't trying to make the fight. There also is the issue of the $50 mil deal., however I don't put a ton of stock into that.
He wasn't manipulated into anything. You don't fight for a title on the network your opponent has a major influence on. You also don't help your competition put you out of business. You know this. That is why it is asinine to think Wilder would fight on dazn. That would be like AJ fighting on ESPN+.
AJ didn't make as many excuses after losing as Wilder, no denying that. That doesn't have anything to do if they would fight or not. AJ would be risking embarrassment as well. Yes, Wilder got humbled. Lets not forget AJ got humbled and was made to quit.
My only point is its easy to criticize wilder for not taking the $100 mil after the loss.
You're a Brit so I understand why you are taking this position. We agree that his behavior since the loss has been immature and pathetic. That has nothing to do with this thread.
You don't make decisions about deals in sports assuming you will lose or get injured. You also don't evaluate decisions based on losing and winning.
We all agree $100 mil is a lot of money not to accept. However, as Hwt champ and potentially the face of American boxing as an undefeated HWT champ, Wilder could've made that.

Haymon is at fault.
Wilder just followed his cherry picking ideology.
They only picked Fury because they thought he was done and it would be an easy win against a washed up past champion who had a ton of issues.
Hopefully PBC will collapsed and then the big fights in all divisions can happen again.
Shame on you who support ducking and cherry picking.
If you can't see Wilder's lying, cowardly and disgusting character at the moment - on full display for all to witness- there is nothing more to say. He is a liar who lied about his ducking AJ and who is not man enough to take his defeat properly.
He's stupid in the head. He should just man up and come back for more fights.

Fan need to stop talking about Fighter finances and focus on their OWN! Without the DAZN Deal Wilder is still making a lot of money! Thanks to DAZN it forced PBC/Showtime/FOX to pay him more
So yeah even without the DAZN Deal Wilder is still a very Rich Man
While the Rest of us are working a hard 9 to 5 and some living paycheck to Paycheck barely making it but yet want to try and tell Wilder what he should've done and for not doing something they would've blindly done without even knowing the Verbiage of the contract :nonono:
You're entitled to your opinion. I am sure if you were in a similar position you'd be forced to think about everything involved rather than just the amount of money in the media.

Hindsight is 20/20. It is also a bit premature to ask whether wilder made a mistake. The DAZN deal sounds great because of the way it reads in the media. The average of $33 mil a fight is big money, no question. we need to make sure it isn't a GGG type deal where a portion of the money is paid in stock options.
You’re right and this is what a lot of people don’t understand about business.
Even Canelo’s deal, $300m or whatever it was. I think people here think DAZN are just dumping $300m into his account, no strings attached.
These kinds of deals come with all kinds of stipulations and clauses. In reality, these figures show potential earnings if all targets are met. DAZN is run by extremely successful business people, they’re not just throwing hundreds of millions at fighters. The earnings will be based meeting revenue targets, spikes in subscriptions around the fights etc..
It’s not just as black and white as what people think. No smart corporation works like that, they would go broke.
$100m or $300m is just a great headline, and leaves out the details because it makes the company and the fighter look good.
boxing is all about control and they were never willing to give up control over wilder. they even made him lose tens of millions of dollars by tricking him. they wanted all the money to stay in house but problem is his purses were so high that they never made any money lol! wilder tanked pbc worse than the coronovirus tanked the stock market. its fair to say he is the coronavirus of boxing
Wilder is a fool.

I doubt if Wilder won he’d fight AJ. There would be some holier than thou bullsht he’d be exercising. Probably ask for 60/40, has to happen on PBC. Because I beat Fury, the lineal champ you gotta bend to me. Almost certain some bullsht would come up. How Haymon crew operates.

Had Wilder won this fight, he'd be in position to fight AJ. That fight might generate more than $33 mil. Then the deal suddenly isn't that great, especially since not only would wilder's purse be fixed (he wouldn't get a percentage of the sales he created) he also would be fighting AJ on dazn which is in partnership with AJ's promoter. That isn't the best situation for any fighter to be in.
You're a smart dude. You know deals aren't made by top guys assuming they will lose. They make them assuming they will win.

DiBella was wrong, DAZN incompetent, Hearn the devil, what do Wilder fans say now? | BoxingScene Community
