if he beats aj then yes, he proved he is the best of his era and is undefeated. his hiatus and triumphant return should play a role in how we gauge his greatness as few can find that success on a return, especially considering the drug, alcohol and junk food binging - the obesity and 400+ lbs
so let me get this right,if James Degale had binged to 300 and had drug and alcohol abuse, you'd rank him higher?Degale has done more than Fury so far, bear that in mind.
Im assuming if fury beats josh, he will defend against the rest of the coontenders. He will fight the Pulevs and whytes and then he could be an ATG top ten. He might retire and comeback and beat the supposedly baddest man.
An ATG that hasn’t ever defended his belts?
Nah Fury is on his way but he’s not there yet and any sensible person knows that. Obviously with recency bias there are people suggesting that not only is he an ATG but he’s a couple of wins from being top 5 of all time. Right now he’s a HOFer but not an all time great. Longetivity is a huge factor in that department and Fury has none of he retires now.
Yes, Fury is an ATG, he will be mentioned in that breath, as he has ATG skills and IQ and knows what hes doing in that ring. He beats hardest puncher of all time and great champs in their backyards.
Being a champ and defending it for 10 years isn't the only route. People testify to Fury being the best they sparred with and Fury has demonstrated it against the best available proving it.
He wouldn't make the ATG lists with zero defences and more retirements than championship fight wins.
If he retired now he'd be that guy you would bring up in 30 years time to the grandkids. "I'll tell you who could and should have been up there with the best...".

None of these current Heavyweights are "GREAT" and fans need to stop throwing around that word "GREAT" so Freely
ONLY currently active fighter that is "GREAT" and will go down as a "ALL TIME GREAT" is Manny Pacquiao!
The Ali Comparison are Laughable and I like Fury by the way and I'm impressed with his skill set especially for a guy his size but NO stop with the Ali SH#T that is so insulting and disrespectful
You can compare him to Ali.
I can see why they compare him (not Wilder) to Ali.
Doesn't mean he's better, greater than Ali.
You can just compare him to Ali because he's has that smack talk, good at mind games and can change his style completely from a fight to another.
He's also a full character out of the ring.
That's pretty rare in boxing.
But Ali is miles ahead in terms of greatness, record ect...
Ali is the HW GOAT PERIOD
I opened a similar thread but my question was his ATG status if he also beats Joshua, Wilder again and someone else and then retires.
Beating Wlad, Wilder and Joshua grants him ATG in my opinion. That's the best HW boxing had to offer in the last 20 years with the exception of Vitali, whom i though would give him probably his toughest fight.
I agree. Gotta clean out all the top guys in the division. That’s Joshua too

I don't know if you can count a dirty drug test against somone for ATG status considering boxing basically refused to use standardized drug testing until a few years ago & in the 80s/90s HWs were probably on more drugs than pro bodybuilders.
Even as of 2019 about 50% of the HW top 10 were busted for PEDs...
https://www.***************.net/2019/04/24/heavyweights-half-failed-drug-test/
... which probably means 100% are doping when you look at testing reliability stats (& lets just include joshua by default):
Idk if you read the daily bread mailbag, but breadman said he believes about 75% of the top guys do it.
He says the fighters who talk about VADA and openly talk about testing and bring it up are the ones who are generally clean.
I don’t think PED’s have been around in boxing forever though. I think they became common once they started doing the day before weigh ins and the rehydrating. The crazy weight jumps. That’s when it became more common.
I think there is a strong case for Fury as an ATG.
If he fights Joshua and wins then certainly.
He is easily the most skilled and complete HW for a generation.
Currently, either way you look at it - Fury is either lineal champion for over 4 years with 6 successful defences. OR. He is a two-time Lineal/Ring Magazine Heavyweight champion.
- -U lookin' myopic is it now?
U a boxing judge?

Yes, he is an atg. He isn't going to beat the no name s and hang around for them, he performs on biggest stage. When he beats Chisoras of the world he gets no credit for doing so.
He went to their backyards and beat them 3 times. His ring iq, knowledge, talent puts him up there. He doesn't need to defend belt 20 times
Currently HOF. If he beats AJ then yes, ATG. If he were to box for another 2 year after that and add the likes of Whyte, Ruiz Jr, Parker, Ortiz, Usyk to his ledger then he's right up there in top-10 conversation.
