Oscar-winner Anthony Hopkins has been set to star in Cus And Mike, the story of Mike Tyson’s legendary trainer Cus D’Amato and how he moulded the fighter into becoming the youngest heavyweight title winner ever and one of the most ferocious boxers of his generation.
The Patriot Pictures film, which is set to be a character study as well as a sports-biopic, will be directed and written by The Notebook and John Q filmmaker Nick Cassavetes, based on the original screenplay by Desmond Nakano, and the book Mike Tyson: Money, Myth, and Betrayal by Montieth Illingworth.
The film will chart how the tough but brilliant D’Amato became a father-figure to the wayward adolescent Tyson who would go on to become the revered fighter and then a figure of controversy. The search for the young Tyson is underway.
D’Amato, who died in 1985, also trained Floyd Patterson and José Torres. He has long been the source of film interest. Martin Scorsese and Jamie Foxx were trying to thrash out a movie version of the coach-boxer story and Bruce Willis was attached to another biopic. George C. Scott portrayed him in the 1995 HBO movie Tyson.
Five-time Oscar nominee Hopkins is coming off raved-about performances in The Two Popes and Sundance title The Father.
Producing on the film are Michael Mendelsohn (Synchronic) from Patriot Pictures, and Jim Steele (Running With The Devil). Mendelsohn’s Union Patriot Capital Management is fully financing. Natalie Perrotta, and Todd Smith will be executive producing.
Cassavetes said about the film, “This is an absolute dream scenario for me. An opportunity to work with Sir Anthony in a movie about two of my all-time heroes, Cus D’Amato and Mike Tyson, the most ferocious (and my favorite) fighter who ever lived? In a story about father figures that disappear too soon? I’m in heaven. So happy that my first film with Mike Mendelsohn and Patriot Pictures is this one. It should be one for the ages…”
I have no idea TBH. I haven't heard anything about it since Tyson was **** talking Foxx about being too small lol
I remember that. Was hilariouthhh!
Good casting unlike getting 37 year old actors to Duran and Leonard in their early 20s.
They couldve at the least used that editing program like they used in the Irishman to make em look younger
Who is playing Teddy Atlas?
I wonder if they will include the time Teddy threatened to kill Tyson because he had "done something bad" to one of Teddy's young female relatives?
Or will it be a heart warming tale of friendship to make Tyson likable.
Seems like it is going to be more of a Lower Budget Project compared to what Jamie Foxx was talking about Years Ago but still should be interesting. Great Casting with Hopkins as Cus so far, it all depends on who plays Mike Tyson
Oh damn I hope not.
Foxx like 50 now. :lol1:
You would be amazed what Hollywood can do with a little steroids', some platform boxing shoes, makeup, and some small actors to make him look bigger lol.
I have no idea TBH. I haven't heard anything about it since Tyson was **** talking Foxx about being too small lol
LMAO. Well if Hollywood can make Tom Cruise look like a normal sized guy when he is about 5-2. I guess with the right actors, some platform boxing shoes, and a little steroids Foxx could maybe pull it off lol.
No I don't think so, but now that you brought that up I have not heard anything about that movie in awhile. Do you know if its in production yet?

Anthony Hopkins is a living legend but he has been on the slide. He’s been in some real trash lately but I’m hoping this is good.
Hey everyone should be allowed to act in some stinkers so the grandchildren can live comfortably. What's the old expression again "two for them one for me" or something along those lines... In regards to doing garbage popcorn movies for the studio so you can do artistic films without making them taking losses.
That's fantastic casting. is this the Biopic that has Jamie Foxx staring as Tyson?

Should have had Morgan Freeman smh
LMAO good one! Funny thing is with boxing's popularity most would not even notice a black man playing an old white one lol.
George C Scott was great, will see how he does and who they have as Mike
Scott played him before in this one its Anothony"the executioner"Hopkins. Agree about Scott he is a great actor. Patton is one of my favorite movies.
About time. This is a good story and should be a good movie. The guy who produced "Running with the devil is good. Anyone that has an interest in Civil War ESP the battle on the Kansas Missouri border(which is where it all started really) needs to check that movie out. Its great. The only movie that's at all real about that part of war, where it burned the brightest.
