They didn't put him in a homecoming fight primetime on Fox against a Feigenbutz level fighter just because.
PBC seems to be selective on who they allow to jump on the first big paycheck: Charles Martin and Andy Ruiz go ahead and take the bag, Charlo and Plant, hold up, we got plans for you guys.
Martin and Ruiz are just guys. Plant is someone who has star power who you can invest in. He stays in the gym year around. Big time amateur career. The biggest fight in Ruiz’ career and he’s 15lbs overweight.
Idk if he'll regret it or not whatever happens in the future but it seems like a dumbass move to not take a fight with Canelo.
I also don't understand his logic of 10wks being short notice. If a pro boxer can't be ready for any fighter in the world in 10wks he's either waaaay out of shape between fights or idk that he thinks in his heart of hearts that he could beat a guy with 12wks, 6mos or a year to prepare for him. And Plant is a world class boxer in his own right with everything to gain & lil to lose in this fight & saying this which doesn't compute at all to me.
Rau'shee Warren went 10 rounds on Saturday night and he wants to be back in the ring by May.
I don't see why Plant couldn't do the same for a fight against the biggest name in the sport.
They have big plans for Plant. He’s white, has swag, good story (with the dying daughter), damn good fighter, wife is on TV, and a pretty boy. All he has to do is keep winning and he’s gonna blow up. Canelo fight isn’t going anywhere. People will be demanding it in a year.

Except I'm not saying it in hindsight, after the fact. I'm saying it ahead of time.
I like Caleb Plant but there's a better than 50/50 chance that David Benavidez will beat him in my opinion.
Based on what? David going the distance twice with Gavrill and beating a 34 year old career underachieving Anthony Dirrell?
If he loses hindsight is always perfect.

I don't see the handlers of Plant letting him fight Canelo unless they're 110% sure Plant can beat Canelo. PBC wants to build Plant into a star which is why there was that sappy dumb emotional music when he won lol. They shill his story all the time (although Plant's ex-wife had some choice words to say about that)
Unfortunately PBC has limited options for Plant. Like someone else said, 168 is pretty bare except for it's champions although there is Danny Jacobs and David Lemuiex who are on the outside looking in. Nor do I get the feeling that anyone from 160 is excited to move up to 168. Watch if Plant doesn't get the Benavidez fight his next fight will be freaking Alfredo Angulo.
I doubt it. He made the right decision so why regret doing what any smart boxer would do. You don't fight a killer like Canelo on short notice if you want to win and think you can win. Plant is doing things the right way and doing what is best for him not what is best for someone else. He believes in himself and thinks he will beat any 168 pound boxer in the world if he is well prepared. He may be wrong but that is what he thinks. If he loses hindsight is always perfect.

I agree it’s a bad move but plant wants it for personal reasons. Even if he wins he won’t be the same fighter after the hell he has to go through to win.
I doubt Plant vs Canelo was going to happened since the whole promoter thing and networks issues
To be honest if he fights Benavidez then I prefer that, it’s a unification fight. Canelo is just jumping from division to division now, we need stability in one division, let Canelo beat BJS and Smith and then fight the Plant/Benavidez winner.
Seems to me like it would have been smarter to fight Canelo, take the money, then come back for the Benavidez fight which isn't going anywhere.Yeah, I agree. That's very true because if he loses to Benavidez, then his chances of getting a Canelo fight would be slim to none.

I kind of agree that it would be a quick turnaround of sorts
But pretty sure that kind of money would have me probably saying fugh , lets do it
Only time will tell if he gets another opportunity
