I'm watching boxing at the moment and trying to figure out why it seems these guys can't land clean punches. It makes me realize why a guy like Floyd went undefeated. As a viewer or judge you didn't have to guess if Floyd landed a punch or not, his shots where always clean, sharp, and precise. Even if he didn't throw a lot of punches in a round when they landed it was clear and obvious.
If you consider a fighter like Shawn Porter he is always in close debatable fights and in my opinion it's largely because he hardly throws or land clean punches. It's always sloppy, messy, and laborious. I'd love to see fighters and pundits who comment on Floyd not just study his defense but the way he threw and landed clean punches and combinations.
I believe it is easy for judges to score fights in Floyd's favor, his punching technique is masterful, he makes it clear that his punches are scoring blows, why do so many fighters seem to lack this skill?
Lara was really sharp too with his 1-2 combo, but he was never consistent. Op is right, it is a lost art in this sport today. These guys just load up on every punches nowadays and you can see their punches coming from a mile away.
joe calzahe was also a great sharp shooter. :hail:
He's weird because he could flurry like no one else too but he was naturally a very complete fighter. Him and Mayweather deservedly go down as some of the most versatile fighters in the ring ever.
Floyd landed clean pitty pat punches against pacs gloves that's about it.
Floyd was hard to hit that's about it. Whenever he fought anyone any good h e was the one bullied around ring
some more notes from round 3. just reviewed it in real time and slow motion.
counted 8 clean shots for pac. 1 left hand to the chin, 3 body shots, and 4 right hand jabs or jab/hooks.
counted 2 clean jabs for floyd. zero clean power shots. another jab might have tickled pacs nose but certainly not a clean shot.
miscellaneous notes: floyd throws 3 right hands that people might think land but don't. one flies over pacs shoulder. its possible his glove might have touched pacs head ever so slightly? but certainly not a clean punch by any means. another time pacs glove/forearm blocks the punch or at least the vast majorty of the force of the punch. certainly not a clean punch. another time pac has his gloves up to block the punch but the camera obscures our view so we will never know if it landed clean but certainly can't count it as clean if we dont see it.
more notes: at one point floyd grabs pac in a headlock and seems to land a right to the body while he has pac in a headlock. obviously holding and hitting is not legal and this cant be counted as a clean punch. pac also flails and seems to hit floyd with some lil punches while he's in the headlock but didnt count that as it seemed too pathetic.
more notes: not really into the whole body language thing but after the round ends pac is pumped smiling while banging his gloves together knowing(or thinking) he just dominated the round. floyd meanwhile walks slowly back to his corner head down dejected knowing(or thinking) he lost the round.
better punches: pac
more punches: pac
best punch of the round? a pac right-left combo that spins floyds head around
control of the center of the ring: pac
spoiling/fouling(this is a bad category): floyd
seems like an open and shut pac round for me. not even one of the harder rounds in the fight to score...lets see what the judges say...
all 3 judges: floyd, floyd, floyd
:lol1: :haha:
Quit your day job immediately!!!!

Not really, there are plenty of sharpshooters, they just aren't even close to as successful as Floyd at it.

Spoon23's videos brainwashed him good :lol1:
does he have videos? i watched the fight(many times) and saw pac landing the head snapping shots while floyds punches werent landing very clean for the most part. it never changes either. floyd doesnt suddenly start landing the clean work. i just cant see 7 rounds where floyd landed the better punches. its just not there. 5 maybe, 6 generously maybe. 7 no. go watch round 3 for example and see who is landing the clean work. then go see what compubox and the judges had to say about that round. you can start there. if 1 round is wrong then its possible others are too right? that was an easy pac round where he landed at least 5-6 head snapping/body shots while floyd landed maybe 2 mediocre quality jabs. the rest were blocked or didnt land clean at all. yet the judges said floyd won it. yet compubox said he landed 11 clean power shots when he landed zero. im assuming compubox is supposed to count clean shots right? if a punch hits mostly glove/shoulder thats a land? shouldnt we reward the guy doing the clean work? i mean it says clean punching right there in the rules.

Especially when Joe has his head tuned the other way.
Well he gave a good explanation to his style back in the day.

Sorry can't embed worth a damn. But when it comes to his offense (not counterpunching) he's basically saying that he never throws a punch if he thinks his opponent is ready for it, he tries to catch you not ready, he uses his feints and variety of long distance punches very well so that you don't see it coming and his reflexes and thought process were extremely quick, that the time between him seeing the opportunity and landing the shot is too short for his opponent to react.
Also after boxing so long (if you're a true student of the game and not a converted football player) You can anticipate your opponent's next move and where his body and head are going to be in the next second so you can fire the shot even before the opening and still land. These qualities were the foundation to his style offensively and also defensively.
Wow, great video. I liked Pretty Boy Floyd, not so much Money Mayweather. This is when he was humble
That's what I mean with those gifs, not many fighters land that clearly, obviously, and effectively, it's like a lost art.

Watching Loma is nice, would be nicer if he fought better competition but I'd prefer an influx of sharper punchers in the sport. To me that's what makes the P4P types stand out, these days P4P is rarely mentioned, no fighter is separating themselves from the pack.
To be fair to Loma I think he's the least tagged fighter ever and by quite a margin too. The fact he makes people miss so much while constantly moving forward and pressuring them is insane.
cept against pac :fing02:
maybe the judges were on cruise control and thought he was landing clean punches when it was pac with all the clean work. oh well. not important.
only Spoon23 has da footage of what actually happened in that fight

Or maybe you're either blind or fucking brain dead :lol1:
One or the other.
Because he was the last great sharp-shooter. Every punches he threw were intended to land. Spence and Canelo have similar punching mechanisms, but they just aren’t as accurate and precise as Floyd was. However, Canelo is more fluid with his combos.
The parameters you set were this, “ The issue is he’s being promoted as the p4p #1 fighter and that status requires more than just winning against opponents deemed inferior”.
Every Floyd opponent was deemed inferior not just by Floyd himself, but his ridiculous fans. Try harder next time.
Where are you Goldie?
