Would Muhammad Ali still be considered “the greatest” if he implemented a run and hug and pillow jab style to win on points every fight??
This is a serious question.
Just rewatching the Foreman Ali fight and man Ali was awesome man. He was taking those punches allowing Foreman to wear out and then BOOM.
But what if Ali fought like Joshua did against Ruiz 2nd time?
What if Ali fought every fight with intention of winnin on points, by running hugging and pillow jabbing?
Would he still be considered the greatest? Would he have been as historic to boxing as he has been?
I essentially answered you, yes and no, yes because he would still be brilliant, but no because a greater fighter in Fury would body him and overshadow him.
No I’m speaking in his era.
If he were to fight Foreman, Frazier, etc. by running hugging and points only, avoiding all combat whatsoever.
How would he be ranked?
If Ali was strictly a points fighter, would he still be the legend he is today??!

Fury would have Ali on skates. Late stoppage or ref wave off because they want to save Ali.Ali would be a multi division champ if he can beat champs before Fury unifies but he would be known as one of the best fighters of Furys era, not likely more.

Ali did his fair share of jabbing and clinching tbh
True. Ali was a great fighter but as he aged he got away with a lot of holding and benefited from favorable judging.
The true greatness of Ali was that he was bigger than boxing and was loved by people all over the world.
One thing is for sure. If Ali fought like AJ did, he'd have been KTFO by Foreman.
Lmao.
Imagine Ali being a points fighter every fight?
Nobody would call him the greatest.
Hmm, I can say for sure I'd like him less, but, ever since I was young I wondered how many people who speak about Ali or Tyson ever actually watched them vs how many were just going along with public craze.
So, i think maybe The Lip gets up there regardless. Because if he still has his mouth and still has his wins over big names then I'm sure he still has his control of public perceptions.
To me, it'd make that whole era seem a bit ****ty. It's an amatuer's gameplan that should get you ktfo in the pros to be honest.
I don’t think he’d be considered as great.
As a boxer, you’re not supposed to go in there with the intention of avoiding combat and winning on points only, you’re supposed to go in there and fight.
Indeed he is!
But would he be still if he was strictly a points fighter?
Notice how not many fellas can input an opinion. To be honest I really don't know but I will say this he will forever be a legend because of what he stood for.A strong black man who stood up for his people and that alone makes him one of the greatest. He was a warrior in and out of the ring
F

- -what uvûuuuu
Yeah buddy he's up there with the best Jack Johnson Joe Luis 80s Mike Tyson Lennox Lewis.those are the Elite

Does he still have the same resume?
Same resume, except all his KO/TKO wins are UD/SD and absolutely no knockdowns in his fights, just winning on points. With very low volume output of punches.
Floyd did felt a little too much in judges to do him a favour almost and not Rob him.
Don't know how many points wins he had. But it's possible for floyd to have 20 losses, if you take into account how many dodgy decisions in history thereve been
No, he wouldn’t be.
Back then, he would’ve been boo’d off the effing ring. You don’t play a game of tag in combat sports.
That’s what made Ali great, he came to FIGHT.

Ali has an incredible ability to withstand punches, he did the whole Foreman fight.
But what if Ali fought every fight by running, clinching, and jabbing? With no intention of battling or KOing his opponent, or even attempting.
Would he still be considered great?
