So I remember gazing at this fight live. I say gazing cause I really didn't care about it or who would win. So I glanced at it from time to time but wasn't scoring by round. I know Korobov was giving Mall hell in the beginning. & it appeared after the halfway point Mall started to even things up & the last round from what I remember was a dominant round. I think you can make the case it was a 10-8 round.
Just looking at it I thought it was close but Mall edged it out, again I didn't score it. (Fast forward to now & the point of this thread...)When people were initially saying they thought Korobov won, I thought it was mainly trolling or hate because of their dislike for Charlo(s). But as the year passed & I've heard plenty other perspectives from people who have no agendas. People really think Korobov beat Charlo..
It brings me to this: How did you score the fight? (I don't need round by round) & if you really felt he lost to Korobov & got a gift why do you want to see him fight Andrade? I know Mall was supposed to fight WMJ & styles make fights & triangle theories don't necessarily work. But if you feel that, surely you gotta know Andrade is a different echelon compared to Korobov. The #AndradeCharlo result is almost a forgone conclusion. I think Charlo & Korobov shoulda ran it back to clear up the controversy. Cause it's like you can almost argue Charlo's not the champ... But I'd like to see Andrade & Charlo fight too so I can't really complain.
I cant remember how i scored it but i remember i thought Korobov had won but that it was a close fight. Home fighter got the sway though as is seen all over the world on all promoters cards in close fights. But i think Korobov beat him.
Didn't score but reckoned maybe Draw or slight edge to Jermall at the time, rewatched thought maybe a Draw or slight edge to Matvey. I'd say Draw.
Folk seem to forget - or just didn't know - that Matvey's one of the most technically sound pure boxers around though, he just got a horrible chin and some stamina issues.
FWIW I wasn't alone in saying before the fight that I was surprised Jermall's team had taken the risk, even given Matvey's years of doing nothing much and having to lose weight. Always was a far, far more dangeous fight than Monroe.
Either of those scores is right. Could give the fight to Matvey for the straight left or to Jermall for the jab but it was close.
I also see Jermall-Andrade as a toss up. Jermall struggles with lefties and movers from what I've seen.
Watching it I felt like Matvey was doing the outboxing (obviously) in a lot of rounds...but it always felt like he was in more danger than Jermall....and I tend to view rounds like the late great Harold Lederman...always thinking about who is doing the most damage...I think I had it 6-5 Jermall heading into round 12.
As I was watching it, I felt like Jermall deserved a slight W for that fight...he just seemed like he was doing more damage overall...and because of the work he did in round 12, should have sealed it imo...both Charlos are interesting though...like different versions of Wilder in a way...can definitely be outboxed but they are must see TV in a lot of ways due to the KO/big punch power.
I've seen most seem to view Andrade-Charlo as heavy to Andrade...but I agree that I view it as a toss up too right now...would love to see that fight...would really tell us a lot about each guy...I really hope we get that fight or some big fight for each guy in the next year or so...just so hard to judge what Charlo or Andrade has at the top level for me...they could be primed to takeover at 160 and above, or could be just under the top level.
I wonder if Andrade would struggle with the pressure and if he doesn't have the chin/toughness to take Charlo...maybe Andrade is the real deal and would make Charlo look bad, as you said it is a bad matchup for Charlo in a way.
But I still don't know how Andrade would deal with a live dog like Charlo who would be a problem for 12 rounds, and who can hurt him...Andrade handled Sulecki easily but Charlo is a different task than that...and I kind of think Charlo is a bad matchup for Andrade too, just as Andrade is for Charlo.
If those guys are making $5+ million each for that fight, they have to do it...no other fights besides Canelo come close for them money-wise imo...you could say GGG but DAZN only wants Canelo or light touches for GGG imo right now, so they won't be paying for anything for a GGG opponent right now.
Hope 2020 brings up some good ones
The fact that 'Mall won on the cards by wide margin shows that the fix was already in. I was perplexed when they announced the cards. That fight was at worst a draw and at best a win for Korobov. You cant really make a case for Charlo winning by any criteria you judge boxing with. By the way, both Charlos are basic fighters but you have to respect their power. J Rock just might expose Charlo this go around if his chin doesn't fall hm.
I forget if I scored it 6-6 or 7-5 for Charlo
Either of those scores is right. Could give the fight to Matvey for the straight left or to Jermall for the jab but it was close.
I also see Jermall-Andrade as a toss up. Jermall struggles with lefties and movers from what I've seen.
A draw would have been the best outcome for both parties, but I felt Korobov did more than Charlo. You know what boxing is like its a horrible sport that doesn't appreciate the guys who aren't viewed as prospect.
I had it a draw. The real joke was Larry Hazzard Jr scored the fight 119-108 for Charlo. Not that surprising cause Larry Sr is a PBC employee and a terrible judge as well.
Korobov won. But they couldn't have both brothers lose on the same card :lol1:
imagine both of them crying in the same damn press conference. Mama Charlo might have got up there.
