Right now it is obvious Ruiz is being looked past. How do you feel about this?
On the one hand he showed up unprepared, and let people down...
On the other, he did beat Joshua convincingly the first time.
Thoughts?
Yes but not straight away, there is still unfinished business between Ruiz Junior & Joshua 'That was by no means a dominant demoralizing performance from Anthony Joshua'.
Anthony Joshua got the win, but in every single round Ruiz Junior looked to be the more dangerous fighter. Ruiz Junior needs to have a good performance against another top contender, and then start chasing the rematch hard 'Ruiz Junior should attempt to Obliterate Dillian Whyte, Kownacki or Ortiz.
I would preferably like to see Ruiz Junior in another high profiled fight early next year 'This is no time for him to go missing, he has to imminently overcome his last performance'.
Yes and no. He won the first fight by taking advantage of the unknown issues on AJ's end, then he (Ruiz) comes into the rematch handicapped because of his own lack of discipline.
He should know how these things go....if you're not the favorite and you upset the apple cart, it's on YOU to make sure you repeat that series of events.
Andy knows damn well Eddie had HUGE plans for AJ, so why not take training seriously in what could possibly be your LAST big shot at the top of the division??? Pathetic.
I don't feel he deserves a third fight because he didn't help matters in the 2nd fight and didn't make a case for anybody taking him seriously from that point on.
Andy Arreola and his list of excuses is the reason he let the country of Mexico down. From what we know now, he's got a problem with discipline between fights and I don't think anybody likes the idea of a fighter being inconsistent between fights and not knowing if they'll make weight (for guys below HW).
Ruiz could earn it, certainly. Drop 40 pounds then put together 2-3 good wins BUT that would not be my prediction, sadly. Ruiz probably continues as he is, making a minimal effort.
Probably he hovers around the top 10 for a few years, fighting for diminishing purses. Probably he eventually goes bankrupt then laments his poor efforts to capitalize on his good fortune.
I think they should both have an in between fight. Ruiz did him a favor by being a replacement and then rematched him. Although Ruiz has the better win, he needs to prove that he can handle the big stage again. By doing so, he can stop spending money on stupid things and hire a nutritionist along with a strength and conditioning coach, drop to 245 and fight Adam Kownacki or Arreola. If he wins in great fashion, he can talk about a rematch or a Wilder fight.
Well its 1-1 so why not. Obviously not straight away as the champion has commitments but both fighters got a few years left in them if they want to so why rule it out in the future. Personally i feel that a proper fit and focused Joshua beats any version of Ruiz but im sure Ruiz is kicking himself due to the lack of commitment to training for the rematch so it would be nice for him to avenge his own demon which is not directly losing the belts but the way he didnt make sure he was in the best shape to hang on to them.
I feel a bit sorry for Ruiz really. He is far from the 1st Boxer to hit the jackpot and let it all get to his head and lose focus on the Boxing bit. He can show us he has learnt a lesson here by coming in in better shape to his next fight.
I'm for the trilogy, but they should both put a couple fights between it. AJ can flex some dominance, and Ruiz can build that hungry fighter/redemption arc.
IMO Ruiz gets a 3rd fight is if AJ loses to Usyk or Wilder and AJ needs a comeback. The only other way is if he decides to fight Ruiz in America after Usyk to set up the Wilder fight.
Based on both Joshua and Ruiz talking about it right after the fight, and Joshua adding something like, "You heard, there's going to be a third" tells me that they already had a 3 fight plan in case Joshua won, making the series 1-1.
No. Theres nothing he can do if Joshua fights the same, run, jab, clinch style. Ruiz and his reach are too short. Ruiz has no head movement nor the ability to cut off the ring. It will be another snoozer.
But other people will call for one because they seen a master class pure sweet science performance. And who wouldn't want to see that again. Wow. Just WOW at that ATG performance.
