This man needs to get checked for a concussion.
I had it 4-4 through 8...and all 4 of Smith's rounds were relatively close...all 4 of Ryder's were clear as day...could easily have been down 5-3 through 8 and I thought Ryder won the final 6 rounds
You have to feel for Ryder. It’s not even like a robbery in huge fights where the fighters are making money to secure their families. Ryder will likely never get any huge paydays and has been robbed of that chance.
This my first thought too. He could have become a millionaire on the back of this fight, he literally fought a guy 1-2 weightclasses larger than him and somehow managed to back him up and beat him with skill and pop. I feel so bad for the guy, it was a tremendous effort.
As a side note, how TF Smith continues to make SMW I have no idea.
If you feel bitter, imagine how Ryder feels after fighting the fight of his life....only to lose to the judges.
That's what I hate...when a man fights like that...he deserves his moment...he earned it...but hey life isn't fair is it
Smith ate so many uppercuts and hooks on the inside, not surprised the doctor was immediately examining him at the end.
Yeah Ryder really did some good, and clean, work on the inside...clean shots to the body and those good uppercuts...sometimes that inside stuff is hard to see/score but his was really good tonight I thought.
theres no need to feed him to canelo anymore. theres no more buzz after tonight. callum got whooped.
Yeah that's kind of how I feel...now he may get more suitors but there won't be as much acclaim for someone if they beat him as well...catch-22
Might as well make Smith vs Saunders next.
Coupla bums......
BJS is so weird to me...he can look great or awful...my guess is he needs his 'nasal spray' to really get in shape and when he has it he is great.
Smith should give Ryder his Ali trophy to make things right
Lol
And that's the 'sport'.
That's why you work to be the A side and have home advantage.
Terrible judging, but no-one is really surprised are they?
Yep just the way it goes...I don't have a real issue with the whole 'you have to KO the champ to win' logic...well as long as most of us who watch the fights at least keep it real and say who really won the boxing match
That’s what it is, it’s just investments in fighters.
They’ve already got Smith’s big summer event planned at Anfield stadium next year if he can’t get a Canelo fight, either option generates huge money. So Hearn wants to go with one of those routes..
Realistically, if Ryder had got the decision, he still doesn’t sell the tickets Smith does and Isn’t going to sell out any stadium next summer and would probably end up losing the belt to the first good fighter he faced.
At least if Smith loses the titles, it’s going to be during a big payday event where they all fill their pockets.
That’s how the business goes, sadly.
Yep well said man...

they were trying to get some buzz for him but its not going to happen. he's not a draw and hes not good. im sure they will still market it as canelo going for his whatever championship belt against hte "legit 168 champ" but its all a sham.
Yeah I feel bad for Ryder...I understand how with all the money they have invested in Smith, his handlers will make sure he wins fights like this.
Just sucks that Ryder got KOed a few years back...if he had good judging in his fights since he would probably still just have that 1 loss and would be a 'star' now.
A result like this is part of the reason why I think fighters from the UK/US/Mexico get a bit overhyped...that's where all the money is and they can afford to pay for good results sometimes...definitely a lot of talent comes from there too...and of course Ryder is English and it didn't help him.
But it just seems like a lot of fighters from areas other than those...well they will never really get the call in close fights against guys from those areas...Pac is a notable exception...maybe Duran as well...but even they seem to just get neutral judging often times and not really a ton of help.

Smith v ryder
I had Ryder winning by about 4 points judging was absolutely dreadful. Smith was missing wildly all the highlight reels will show Ryder constantly unloading no idea what fight the judges were scoring! Feel sorry for the guy fight the fight of your life and get stitched. Terry O’Connor should be ashamed of himsel. Same old BS fighter who’s expected to win gets the nod. It was a very close fight but Ryder was constantly Nicking the rounds for me.
The performance was really poor but I wouldn't say he got 'exposed'. I've seen Callum Smith perform against much better opponents than Ryder.
They should definitely rematch, and I'm sure if they do that Smith will dispatch of Ryder easily.
With that said, the 168 lb division is definitely the weakest in the sport. I can see Canelo staying there and having a lot of success. I'd also like to see Bivol move down, and he would run over everyone as well.
I wonder how Bivol would do at 168 after getting used to 175...it may be better for him or maybe not...hard to say imo.
168 does seem a bit weak but I think it always is tbh...it just has always been a feeder division between MW and LHW...which are two pretty historic divisions...MW for sure is.
No shame in losing/having a tough fight with a top 10 guy in your division...most guys, even great ones, will lose 1 or 2 out of ten vs those types of guys, if it is on even terms.
Ryder does seem like a bad matchup for Smith imo...Ryder also seems like a much better fighter than his record shows.

It's funny a lot people, including myself figured this would be a blowout now we're all angrily screaming robbery for Ryder.
Theatre of the unexpected indeed.
Yep...funny how it works out sometimes...at least it shows a lot of us don't really have that much of a rooting interest in most fights and just really want the best man on the night to win

Ryder beat the life out of him and probably took it 118-110/119-109 type fight
Smith won 3 rounds.
I'm actually kind of bitter after that fight.
There was only 1 winner that is for sure...I was scoring it live in that thread you made...and I was thinking 'man this seems like it will at least be a close/debatable fight' after the first few rounds....but nope...just a bad decision...just can't see how Smith gets even 6 rounds unless a fix was in.
Boxing sucks sometimes...always going to reward the big star or prospect because of how much money they have invested in them...the fact that they scored it 8 8 and 9!!! rounds for Smith...it is like they are just laughing in our face though.
