Canelo has clearly fought and beaten better opponents. Not taking anything away from Dre, he was a top notch fighter himself

Ward, because he doesn't have controversy around his wins. And the Kovalev fights are not controversial as long as you live in observable reality. Canelo has gotten gifts against Trout, Lara, GGGx2, Mayweather(Majority Decision) First fight was hugely controversial.

Ward is a better fighter but it may have go to Canelo in terms of accolades. Pretty close IMO. Ward has better clear win (2nd fight) over a prime opponent in Kovalev, but Canelo probably has more wins over elite competition.

To me neither one is even close to being the best fighter of the decade and Canelo is much better than Ward plus he does not use dirty illegal tactics like Ward does.
