So Kovalev has to do 3 different weigh ins to fight Canelo.
Regular weigh in max 175lb
Morning weigh in 185lb
Fight night weigh in 190lb
Dont forget that the fight is extremely late because it starts after UFC fight card, it starts around midnight, meaning Kovalev from the early morning can only gain 5lb the whole day, otherwise he will have to pay millions.
Golden Boy tried to keep it secret, and even had Team Kovalev to sign a NDA (None Disclosure Agreement), so they were not allowed to talk about any clauses of the fight, there might actually be more clauses which have not come out, or will never leak.
Canelo himself, when fighting at 154/155 usually rehydrated to 170-174 on fight night, which means he gained between 15-20lb. Now a taller, bigger man isnt allowed to rehydrate as he usually does to give Canelo an advantage.
What other clauses are in the contract that the public will never find out about?
I think it's time for the sanctioning bodies
to have access to these contracts and not sanction fights that try to get around their rules. Sanctioning fees should be paid in full two weeks before the contest and are non refundable or something along those lines. These catchweight and rehydration clauses are making boxing a laughing stock. People bet on these fights and the contracts should be made public so they have full disclosure.
yeh you're right, most mma fans are 'new' to combat sports and never watched boxing EVER, but still lots of guys who prefer boxing (myself included) that just watches mma instead some of the time because there is way too much politics in boxing. theres politics in mma too, but once the cage door closes the politics is nowhere to be found whereas in boxing, as political as it already is, the true politics starts in the ring. the illusion that its a fair sport has gone out the window many years ago - thats what happens when you have billion dollar collaborators controlling everything behind the scenes - the promoters, the networks, the managers, the commissions and the betting agencies. deep rooted boxing mafia
Oh it's a total cluster****...one that as a fan you have no choice but begrudgingly overlook/tolerate. Ideally the sport would have organically evolved into a WBSS structure from top down, and now the current fragmentation is inextricably linked with crucial history which further complicates any hypothetical atom bomb clean slate overhaul (on top of the inherent unlikelihood of such for other obvious reasons) , so yeah...I love the sport, but god is it ****ed!
Sad that a NDA has to be signed by Team Kov. Damn Kov has to fight Clenelo, Ref,
Paid Judges, and the rehydration clauses: It’s really effed up bc GB and Canelo said they wanted a straight fight without catchweight etc... Kovalev gotta knock that block off Nelos shoulders to have a chance.
Double rehydration clause?
No one asked for the damn fight, so why take on the man if you can’t beat him at his best?
Let’s go kovalev, keep him at arms length and punish canelo when he enters the firing range!
I really think Canelos poor foot movement will show in this fight.
His counters will not land as easy with the reach difference.
Is this what daring to be great means now??
Yeah brah! Get on board or risk being called a no-puzzy getting loozer by real cool guys on the internet who totally aren't 5'7" 300 lbs and totally aren't projecting!
STFU... Golovkin did that one thing and Golovkin did the other thing too. Hypocrite! And, so did Canada for that matter. Haaaaater!!!
:D
This would have never happened if G didn't fight Vanes...
I was laughing at people saying there was no rehydration clause...you fools do know the a-side can just make the other guy sign a contract saying he cant open his mouth or he loses millions of dollars, right? i hope canelo loses, i fuccing hate this a-side rich boy privilege shyt, this is why most males view boxing as a joke nowadays and are switching over to mma. boxing is a rich boys club run by the establishment promoters and las vegas bookies mafia
Though it clearly wins in popularity by a landslide and that is definitely a pressing issue, I don't think it's necessarily the reason. I think it's more because MMA is simply more "in" now due to a convergence of mostly superficial factors, and most people are superficial, fickle sheep that turn with the wind like a weather vane. Or maybe I'm just not giving enough credit.
Seems fair.
That should not hinder his performance at all.
All fights should have at least a 10% re-hydration clause ring weight and 5% on the morning.
Anyone surprised by this? And his fanbase will say that anyone who calls him on this bull**** is a G fan or some **** lmfao
STFU... Golovkin did that one thing and Golovkin did the other thing too. Hypocrite! And, so did Canada for that matter. Haaaaater!!!
:D
I said this was going to be the case and that they wouldn't talk about it because they wanted to be able to sell the fight with the illusion that Canelo was going in as David vs Goliath. This wasn't hard to predict. Some people here catch on slow though.
The fight will start later than that because ufc main events don’t start till 9-10 pm pacific usually. Stupid scheduling to cater to ufc.
So the main event is going to be around 1 a.m ET?
