Most great boxers have signature wins (some have more than one).
I'm trying to figure out which is Canelo's signature win to date?
https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/348759
Alvarez has some good wins but nothing so far that I would call a "signature" or legacy type win.
Sometimes the logistics of finding an elite fighter, who is in his prime (more or less) as an opponent, is just not there for you.
Even Floyd, at 50-0, lacks a signature win at WW. Sure he beat Manny but most fans know that fight happened years too late.
It nice to have a signature win, but a fighter can be considered great without one.
I'd have to say GGG. It was his rival and the fight the entire world called for and it happened. Sure, it didn't go as we really wanted (knockdowns, maybe a KO), though it still is a win over his rival. Otherwise, I can't find a real signature win for him. I feel he weight bullied Cotto who was nearing the end of his career anyway. The big guys he's fought either had little pop or were also over the hill (Kovalev). Not to mention, they just weren't career defining fights. Heck, I'm not even sure GGG is when you look at age. GGG was already a lot older in comparison to Canelo. For me, you need 2 guys in their primes, both with the hunger to kill each other, neither man wants to back down, and they put each through pure hell. That is career defining to me.
You can remove the part of putting each other through hell if the other guy is really that good and just dominates, but you still need the other ingredients.
IDK?? Trout held is own against both Charlo bros. In fact Jermall was booed because a lot of ppl felt Trout won that fight.
Jermell was down. On my cards until the 2 knockdowns he suffered. Take those away and it's a draw.
Lara has been feasting on some straight BUMS lately. In his defense Andrade ducked him. First said he would fight Lara then said HELL NO!
My man....Trout's my dude but it took him 3 long years to get back into title contention. He pretty much entered "gatekeeper" status after he lost to Canelo. And let's not forget....he never beat a top guy or contender after losing to Canelo, so that pretty much tells you all you need to know.
Lara's inability to adjust to step on the gas and dominate top guys is what held him back. He has a style that gives others fits, but it's not a style that meshes well with judges. Knowing that, he NEVER made those adjustments to totally dominate a fighter or stop them....he's always done just enough in a big fights then has the nerve to cry "robbery."
I still wouldn't mind seeing Lara vs Andrade nowadays....I keep forgetting Andrade is a Middleweight and not a Super MIddleweight. Lol
The issue is (and will always be)....HATE! Point is, a lot of these guys were supposed to box Canelo's ears off, obliterate him, embarrass him, etc.- to no avail. As I mentioned earlier, thee guys people wanted to beat Canelo aren't doing anything now...their careers went south after fighting Canelo.
They just couldn't get the job done so the haters are mad! Golovkin's so frail and afraid to lose out on his mythical rubber match payday that he's damn near hiding nowadays! Austin Trout was never really that good and people had egg on their faces after he lost to Canelo- what has he done since?
Lara couldn't get it done but, does he ever step up when the competition gets harder? He was supposed to do a number on Canelo but he stunk up the joint and basically beat himself.
Y'all are funny. Lol
No I bought most of Floyd's fight except Berto. He is what he is. I don't really care what anyone does outside the ring.
You notice not 1 time have I ever given Canelo a pass for failing is test???
You don't have to give him a pass or not just saying that's one of the reasons people (legitimately) don't like him. It's a legit reason.
And it's just delusional to say that Canelo dominated that fight with no controversy, I definitely agree you could give him 7 rounds, but from round 9 on once GGG started finding a home for that uppercut, I had him sweeping the last 4 rounds. It was clear that the hard thudding jabs GGG caught canelo coming in wth early on impacted canelo more than the body shots because GGG was the one fighting with more energy last 4 rounds of the fight and landing the better shots. Many saw it this way. No problem if you disagree, but to say one guy dominated is just wrong. In my opinion if the body shots were as brutal and damaging as you say they are, GGG would have been stopped or gassed out the last 4 rounds, instead the opposite happened, he rallied hard.
First I don't remember any CW's being for a belt except maybe Cotto and Khan Cotto wanted it and Khan NEEDED it. I wish Brook got the same vs. Ggg.
Agee the media don't like Canelo and adored ggg.
Mayne he learned how to show is money off from Floyd?
What has ggg done to get a 3rd fight? Since he RAN out the ring like a POOR sport he's been fighting straight BUMS. And when he did fight a guy with a pulse alot of ppl he felt ggg lost.
Canelo mean while has been fighting undefeaund champs.
GGG done nothing to deserve it, but they shoulda done the fight next. Fight ends in controversy, you do a rematch, period.
He did learn to show off money from Floyd and that's why a lotta people don't like him. I'd even guess you didn't like Floyd because of that but give Canelo a pass? I don't know but ether way I don't care much for Floyd personally because of it and don't like that Canelo does it either, only little immature boys do shit like that, not grown men.
Almost EVERY trainer and fighter had Canelo winning the 2nd fight. Fuk the media!!! Bunch if fat dan's.
The media LOVED GGG. And was falling over head and heels for him.
Canelo doesn't speak good English and comes off as a dic at times to the media.
Google what Charlo, Spence, Roy Jones said after the ggg 2nd fight. They CLOWNED the SHT out of ggg and his "Mexican" style that he forgot overnight during the fight.
Half these RTARDS IGNORE Defense.
Making GGG MISS almost 650 times is GREAT defense..
Making a guy completely change how they fight is ring generalship.
Accurate hard punching again goes to Canelo. He had a VERY high connect % and threw way more power punches, combos, and BODY punches.
GGG threw very little combos and sure as sht practically ZERO body punches. You know why ggg refused to do combos and body work???
If this was basketball we would be referring to ggg as LeBRICK throwing up all them GARBAGE shots missing 650 times...
Ohh GGG own TRAINER told ggg he was LOSING and he thought the judges did a good job...
Lol what media and what fans? How many Khazakstani boxing fan friends do you have, and be honest? I have zero. You? I don't even know a single white person that gives a shit about boxing.
What rematches did you want to see??? Fuk I hope you ain't saying Lara??? Lara talked more sht then what he did in the ring. Sht I remember 1 round he tried superman'ing over Canelo.
They tried making Charlo fight. So who did Canelo "duck"??
Really ain't that many great boxer at 160-175.
Only one I give the best chance is Bieterbiev and he's fkn HUGE for a LHW...Dude used to fight at HW.
At the 2012 Olympics Bieterbiev edged out Michael Hunter but lost again by 13–17 to Usyk. Both of these were in the heavyweight division.
He should have given Lara and GGG both rematches, any time a fight ends in controversy the winner should give the loser a rematch. Not saying it was a robbery, but controversy just means that there are many people out there who think the decision went the wrong way.
Beterbiev is solid. His win over Gvozdyk was great, that guy put Adonis in a coma.
Look, you're allowed to be a Canelo fan, but don't be surprised that a lot of people don't like him. He does a lot of things that turn people off and that's just facts, all the things I mentioned above, the childish excuses after failing the drug test, crying and playing victim when GGG called him out on it, the 155lb thing, saying he wasn't a middleweight as a reason to not fight GGG at fight but then 2 years later now saying he can't make 160, obvious the guy doesn't like people who don't come from his country and is very biased, always showing off his money. These things can be very off putting you know and there's nothing wrong w not liking the guy because of it. It was the same with Floyd, I was never a big fan of his personalty, grown men don't boast about their cars/watches/clothes, but I at least recognized how good a boxer he was. Canelo is a great boxer too just not a Floyd's level.
You say you stopped reading but it didnt fit your agenda did it?
Just like when you claimed it was IMPOSSIBLE for Canelo to weigh 180+ despite the fact I am the same size right?
Do you understand what the phrase "without a doubt" means?
Oh some boxers had Canelo winning but those people didnt score the fight now did they? I believe George foreman also said Canelo won but when asked what rounds he didnt have an answer. Why? Because he didnt score the fight.
You know, like how I scored it or how the media scored it? People PAID to do that job?
And some how almost EVERYONE disagreed with the official judges right?
The official judge score cards read 115-113x2 and 114-114. Canelo fanboys like you claim Canelo dominated GGG but those scores say otherwise dont they?
Compare that to EVERY SINGLE POLL ON THE INTERNET and the press score cards.
How many score cards do you think
A-SIDE Canelo
The most popular boxer on the planet
The Cash cow himself
Fighting on his home turf
Got?
34 for GGG
2 Canelo
15 Draw
He got TWO.
Compare to the poll from this very forum you spoke SO highly of.
Fight 2
166 57.44% GGG
96 33.22% Canelo
27 9.34%Draw
Oh. If doesnt fit your agenda then they must be GGG fan boys. But how is that possible when Canelo is so much more popular. Such a bigger draw. The cash cow?
Oh. Canelo is just a victim. Everyone is mean to him for no reason.
"WITHOUT A DOUBT" Oh?
I mean, you could just be fat as hell
Trout, Lara, GGG 2x. Like I said, he has several good wins such as Saunders, Plant, Jacobs, Cotto, Kovalev, none of them great wins in my opinion. We'll also never know just how much the Clen helped him out. Since he's been caught he has been fighting at higher weight classes. That Clen really helped him cut the weight while retaining muscle. Now he's jumping up to Cruiser.
Yea I knew it…just as I suspected, you’re a fuking hater.
Canelo provided a hair sample which proved his innocence, but you don’t care about that. He’s always testing with Vada before his fights, for I can’t even remember how many fights in a row now.
Trout?? Please dude that fight Canelo looked bad ass, was slick and even knocked Trout down and made him do the chicken dance. Anyone that says he lost this fight is a secret hater as it wasn’t really that close.
and somewhat a close fight but a win for Canelo in the second GGG fight, personally I didn’t think it was as close as Canelo took it to him. Discrediting him for that win is like discrediting most signature wins for other fighters. We get close fights all day everyday every year, and they get the W with no controversy.
Canelo has a close fight here and there and they’re labeled robs.
Stop crying, the constant faux outrage is tiresome. You don't know Canelo and he doesn't know you even exist, you don't need to take every post about him personal.
There's posters in the thread that won't count that win as his signature win as they don't think he won, which is fine, but I still did as it's on his record.
If it wasn't GGG, I'd probably go with Lara.
damn i didnt even know mexican puppet came back, i thought he disappeared for good after his last PED boy, Nery got splattered :lol1:
What gifted win? Running Lara? GGG 1 was a draw not a win for Canelo.
I really can’t think of any other fight, maybe I’m forgetting one.
Trout, Lara, GGG 2x. Like I said, he has several good wins such as Saunders, Plant, Jacobs, Cotto, Kovalev, none of them great wins in my opinion. Like 80% of the posters in this forum hate Canelo, man, and, of fact, they don't know anything about boxing.
So, what You think, what I.think, it does.not matter.
It what it is, You need to understand that, Canelo won, period, all the people wished Golovkin destroying Canelo and in the second Fight Canelo.destroyed and hurted Golovkin so Bad, he face was destroyed, and his ribs too.
it's boxing, period....
Duran vs Leonard I was too close, at the same level of Canelo vs Golovkin, New York Times said Leonard won the first match, but it was not, Duran won, period... A very close fight but still a win.
Its like soccer, it does not matter anything, just the fair win, it does not matter if is close.
It's not like they hate him for no good reasons, Canelo brings all the hate on himself. You can't constantly be the only person in boxing with the power to make any fight you want, but always deny the fights the fans want, fail drug tests, do the 155lb bs for all those years, use catchweight and rehydration clauses, put stipulation after stipulation in the contract to put the opponent at a disadvantage, show off your money all the time, talk shit, never give opponents who arguably beat you any respect, never EVER give them rematches the way Floyd and Ward did, and expect not to be disliked. He brings it all on himself.
None. He has quite a few "good" wins, none that I would call great wins. Several gifts that went his way as well.
What gifted win? Running Lara? GGG 1 was a draw not a win for Canelo.
I really can’t think of any other fight, maybe I’m forgetting one.
Duran vs Leonard 1 was super close, yet he gets praised as it’s called one of boxing’s historic wins.
Every fighter that ever existed, even up until this last weekend has super close fights. They get the W and on to the next one.
Canelo has a close fight, and it’s hell to pay in this forum.
